1. Just another day
*Angelica's POV*
Today was the same as any other day. At least it seemed that way. I got up early and did my best to not wake up Seth. I got showered and ready for my day. I wore a black knee-length pencil skirt, a nice white blouse, and a suit jacket to match the skirt. I put on my black pumps, put my hair up in a bun, and put on a little bit of makeup... just some gray eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and dark magenta lipstick. My normal colors and routine. I put on my watch and grabbed my purse on the way out the door. I locked the house up and ran to my little black civic. It may be a 2012 but it works well for me. It was 4 AM. I quietly drove off down the gravel road until I hit the main road. Once I was on my way to the office, I cranked up the stereo and started to sing along to the radio. I needed anything to calm my nerves before dealing with the boss. At least he was much kinder to me than Seth ever was... I drove through town and stopped at a donut shop close to the office. I always got two dozen donuts and some coffee. Mine was just a simple dark roast with a couple of creamers and 2 sugars. Jordan's was more complicated... He wanted a vanilla latte with almond milk, 5 sugars, and chocolate drizzle. The line for the local donut shop was always long. Even getting there at 4 am, I would be waiting for a couple of hours. By the time 6 AM rolled around, I was back in the car and driving to our office, Manfield Insurance. I drove around to the back of the building and parked in my usual spot under the oak tree. I loved that it gave me shade each day. Jordan liked that it hid my car as he was always embarrassed about it for some reason.
Today I walked in juggling the boxes (as usual). I placed them in the break room and brought Jordan's coffee to him. As usual, all I got was a grunt for my efforts. I simply ignored it as I walked back to my desk out brought. It was my job to greet each customer and to try and sell policies if Jordan or his sales agents were busy. I was also in charge of taking money to the bank each day. Basically, any task Jordan or his buddies didn't want to do or handle, I was left with. If it wasn't for the fact that Jordan is the alpha of the pack, I would have quit this job years ago. With my insurance licenses, I could work for a mundane company and make a lot more money. However, that is not how life works in my work. The alpha's word is final. Especially in our pack... I was an omega. The lowest on the totem pole there. The only reason I have this job is that I paid for my own licenses and training. That and I was the only omega in the pack that didn't have the skill set needed for the other jobs. Jordan said he kept me around for my appearance as well. Having an attractive secretary helps in sales... makes people more likely to loosen the purse strings and buy a product they may not actually need.
Seth was also an omega. He worked on the plantation. He taught the pups. It would be the equivalent to an elementary school teacher in the mundane world. Seth was not my mate but Jordan, in all his wisdom as alpha, decided that we should be together. I could not stand Seth. Jordan thought we would make smart pups that would be of use to him. Only the alpha and his betas were really allowed to pursue their mates. Everyone else was forced to reject their mate and follow the alpha's direction... or be banished. Banishment was short in this pack... it would last about 3.7 seconds. Then your body would be used as an example to others that may try and copy your actions. It is for that reason that no one has opposed Jordan since he took over being Alpha when his father died... however, his decisions left me miserable. As an omega, I really did not have any voice or choice in my life other than how quickly I wanted to die.
I was answering a few inquiries from one of my customers. He was looking to increase his coverages when the bell over the door rang. It would ring each time the door was opened/closed to alert everyone to a customer's presence. I immediately closed the email and got up to address the customer. He was really tall... 6 feet at least... athletic... tan skin, black hair, and silver eyes... My knees were weak just looking at him but I did everything I could to keep my composure.
"Good morning and welcome to Manfield Insurance Company. My name is Angelica. May I get you anything?"
His voice was deep yet smooth, "Well good morning Miss Angelica. I have a meeting with Jordan. My name is David Thompson."
*David's POV*
I sat down at her desk as she ran back to another office, assumingly to tell Jordan of my arrival, and ran back to prepare a conference room. I watched and admired her figure. I would guess her to be about 5 feet and 2 inches tall (without her heels). She was skinny with an hourglass figure. She was a bit pale with light brown hair and amethyst eyes. I will admit I was a bit of a pervert and was looking at her breasts. Easily a D-cup if not larger. I could hear my wolf screaming "Mate" over and over again. Angelica... I liked that name for her... I noticed a ring on her finger, just a simple and thin silver band. I couldn't help but feel rage as I wanted her. She was mine and I would refuse to let anyone else have her.
Her voice was like a song lifting me out of the darkest shadows of my thoughts as she asked me to follow her to the conference room. When I entered, I noticed some cookies were placed neatly on a tray in the middle as well as a few bottles of water. The cookies smelled delicious. Honestly, they smelt like her though. Her scent reminded me of cookies and coffee. My favorite combination when I need a pick-me-up. I just watched as she returned to her desk and continued to work. She took a phone call after phone call. She wore this headset where the microphone was mere inches from her lips. I wanted to be closer to her... to feel her lips on mine... It was art just watching her assist callers. I felt perfectly at ease just watching her.
"Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Thompson. My name is Jordan, we spoke on the phone earlier."
"Ah... Jordan... Thank you for seeing me on such short notice. So, I am looking to move my insurance over. I am being charged far too much from my current company but if you can even save me a little money I'd gladly switch as long as Angelica there is my point of contact. She is the most gorgeous thing I have ever seen..."
"I think we could arrange that. Angelica is young but definitely has some assets, to say the least. I actually set her and her fiance up. Hopefully, she will decide on a date so they can get married already."
"How long has she been engaged?"
"6 years... 6 really long years."
6 years... so he must not be her mate... could she have known we were looking for her?
