CHAPTER 8: Competition
Competing with Thylane
For a time, my new classmates have been challenging me; they have gotten so active in class that I never expected them to be like that. I wasn't expecting it because they were really active in class. Zion was the catalyst for all that happened after that. Zion unexpectedly answered while pretending bored in class as I was about to answer the arithmetic problem on the board. The class then begins to volunteer to solve the math questions that have been presented.
I grew even more determined to study more because I am encountering more adversaries in the class, which I do not want. I only want to be the only student who is referred to as the smartest. No one else should ever be in that position.
But I didn't tell anyone about it; instead, I went to school and completed my work. While the class was putting pressure on me, I got calm. The most difficult part was that several of them wanted to run for president of the student council. When they see me, I hope they would put their imaginations aside. I am the only one who has been assigned to lead this school. There's no one else.
I was in the middle of writing my essays when my mother abruptly called.
I greeted her with, "Hey mom."
"Thylane, we'll go out with dad again, so be good, okay?"
" I was told by my mother.
"Yes, mum," I replied.
They'll go abroad again, which will make things easier for me. There will be no yelling, and no one will be in the house. It's just me. When I exited my room to seek for munchies, I noticed a familiar face.
“Neri?
" I wasn't sure, so I asked the woman, who is now standing in front of the kitchen sink.
"Thylane," she said as she turned to face me and smiled. As a result, I'm really looking forward to seeing her again. It's been a long time.
"How do you feel today?" "I inquired. "
"I am doing well, Thylane." It's allowing to your family, especially my son, who, as I've previously stated, is now an attorney, and it's all thanks to you again," Neri said, and I couldn't help but sense her joy.
"I'm fine, Thylane; I'm doing well," Neri said repeatedly making me believe that she is really fine, and I couldn't help but feel glad for her right now.
"That's fantastic; may I inquire as to why you've appeared so suddenly?"
" I said, "I wonder why she is here right now," I explained, "I am no longer a small girl, well, I am still in high school, but that doesn't mean I wanted to be rude, but why is she here again?"
“Thylane, your mother called me to be here, if you are wondering why am I here all of a sudden,” She told me that made me think of it for a while.
Why would mom call her to be here? Is she planning to stay for a long time in Singapore or wherever she is right now? It pisses me off again.
“Why so?” I asked Neri.
“She told me that, she will be busy with her work there and even your dad they are fixing things in your business. They are taking care of too many things that is why they asked me to stay here instead.”
“Why?”
“Thylane, don’t be so grumpy, they might be there for something. They do not want anything bad to happen to you, and they are working hard for your future,”
“I know that Neri, anyways have you eaten?” I asked her, I wanted to change the topic I do not want to talk too much about my parents.
While we were eating Neri keep on telling me how much her son cried when he almost did not pass one of his minor subjects, he is way older than me, but I never meet him.
“You know what Thylane my son is super different from you, when I went home I always had a bad headache because of him, he was subject of bullying once because he never gets a girlfriend,” Neri was laughing while telling me that, what’s wrong with not having a girlfriend?
“And then now those bastards are searching him everywhere to file an annulment of their marriages I am so happy for what my son has become,” Neri proudly say that I just smiled.
I wish Neri was my mom, she is different, she will make me feel that she is always there. She knows when I am sick, afraid and all. Nanny’s were always the best.
I helped her when we wash the dishes, she doesn’t want me to do that but I insisted. We were laughing all around the house. Our waves of laughter echo the house, it feels home to be with someone who is there for you, who are you happy with. I want to cherish this moment because sooner or later Neri will leave me again.
“Thylane, you’ve been spacing out again,” she said and then laughed at me. Neri will always be Neri, my favorite nanny.
I woke up early today I will go to school, it was a little bit surprising because the house is silent no one is arguing and the living area is clean, no papers on the floor and all. I saw Neri at the garden watering the plants while our dogs keeps on running to her. I smiled. I went to the dining table to eat my breakfast after that I went back to my room, took a bath, and wore my uniform as usual my good girl look.
I am now walking her inside our school and everyone is staring at me as if I am a celebrity, I don’t want their attention I just want their vote during the student council election. I do not care about them right away. I went straight to the library to give back my borrowed book and to borrow another book again. When I was there I saw a familiar face it was my classmate he is staring at me.
“Santos,” he called me and then wink at me.
I feel cringe at his action. I know he is one of the varsity players and I hate how he treats me, he should fear me because I am the student council.
When I went to our classroom the students were noisy, they are talking this and that, they really love chitchat I went directly to my chair and opened my book while waiting for the teacher. I even put earphones on my ears for me not to listen to their noises. I hate their unnecessary noises.
A minute had passed and our teacher finally entered our room, she discussed and I listened intently what I hate is that my classmates are bombarding her with questions, they are making their moves to be known in the class they are competing with me. That’s why I made my own move. I gave them theories and conspiracies to answer. I want to know how far their brains extend. I hate being number two. No one is allowed to be number one rather than me. I am selfish and I admit it.
But little did I know Zion answers me right after my questions he gave me facts and truths. He gave me articles and he is boasting in front of me. I remained calm but I really wanted to lash him out. He has brains and he is now an enemy to me.
I stayed with my point and defended it too. The class now is in chaos having no idea who will they go to. I know Zion has a point in his factual truths and unbiased statements but this is a battle of theories I need to win with this battle.
“Class,” the teacher is trying to stop us because the debate is getting deeper it all just started with the Journey to the center of the earth and now we are in science. I hate him for using the facts and scientific explanations that’s why I used my spiritual knowing my ability to control people’s minds. In the end, the teacher let my classmate vote for who had better theories and they chose me. I was happy.
“Don’t be too happy Santos, I am just starting,” he whispered when I was about to get off the class.
So I didn’t waste my time, I went to the senior department to advance my studies. I do not want to be a loser. I am not a loser. I know I can defeat that Zion. But when I entered the room I saw him there too, he smirked and winked at me.
I just went straight to the chair in front, the seniors have amusements in their faces maybe they can’t believe that we are really here to be part of their calculus class. The teacher started explaining the lesson and I am listening intently from time to time the teacher asks questions and I will answer and then this Zion will disagree with my answer he will present other solutions but ended up the same with my answer.
I am getting amused by him competing with me, anywhere, well I will now let him win this battle. I own this high school no one is allowed to ruin my plans.
We were required to create a group during a physical exercise class. It's a tug of war between me and Zion since we were both leaders. They have more guys, and I know they are stronger than we are, so I told my squad to focus on strategy rather than strength. So, they did, they followed all of my instructions; we're too close to losing, yet we won because they believed in me and obeyed all of my commands. I simply gave Zion a drab expression in response to his defeat. Basically, having a competition with him is not that boring at all.
Zion still doing his best to compete with me, he will do everything he has to defeat me. But I will not go beyond. I will defend and I will make all the efforts to win against him.
“Santos,” he called me when I am on my way to the library, Based on his look he had just come from the basketball court, he looks sweaty the girls were screaming on his back admiring his good looks.
“Yeah?” I gave him a boring questioning look, he just gave me a smirk.
“Higher jumps,” he said that made my eyebrows furrow.
“What?” I asked him wanting for more explanations.
“I want to battle with you again,” he said and I just nodded, we went to the open field.
“We’ll be playing soccer?” I asked him and he just laughs at me, what the heck? What’s with this guy I didn’t say any funny words. Damn.
“Of course and I bet you’ll lose with me now,” I smirk at his words, so full of himself, dad enrolled me in a soccer class when I was little I know how to play this one, but I can say that I am not that good.
“It is a fair game tho, since I do not know how to play this game,” he stated that made me feel bored even more, he don’t know to play this one and he wanted to battle with me. Is he joking or something? I know to play this game, after all, he will face his defeat, and I will win effortlessly.
“Game,” I said and he smirked at me.
While playing I am not yet giving my best I am trying to take a look if he really doesn’t know how to play, and based on the actions he does not know to play. I can see in my peripheral vision that there are girls watching us and they are cheering for Zion.
“Play well,” he said to me as he kick for his first goal.
From that I started to play well, I make my movements real and I won. He only had 1 goal while I had 10 goals. I just gave him a boring look and then went near him.
“Don’t be too full of yourself, loser,” I said and leave him there.
