I parked my car in the basement of the parking lot and headed into the elevator. The elevator doors opened into the library. I walked to the front desk and there was an old lady smiling at me. I turned around to make sure I was alone. Something felt extremely wrong. I started to shiver and crossed my arms over my chest. I shook the feeling off and tried to smile back at the old lady.
‘Good morning dear. How can I help you today?’ she asked me. Something about her voice was scaring me. Maybe I am just imaging thing. I try to shake the uneasy feeling off.
‘Hi. Can you point me to the Religion section please?’ I tried to keep my voice steady but I was shaking uncontrollably. She pointed me in the direction and I smiled at her.
‘Thank you so much.’ And I walked away. I got a feeling that she was staring at me, but I was too scared to look back. What is wrong with me?
I reached the Religion section and started looking for anything about prophecies. Anything that will help me uncover my destiny. Apparently the library has a lot of books about religion. With a sigh I start with the first book that looks old. I search for any prophecies in the book but find none so I move onto the next book.
After three hours of endless reading I come up with absolutely nothing. I didn’t find one stinking prophecy in any of the books. I start to yawn and realize that all this reading has made me tired. My eyes start to get heavy and I fell asleep at the desk.
I didn’t dream anything, but something was keeping me asleep. I was standing on clouds and the sky was a light blue. There was a gate in front of me that led to dreams. Before I could walk into the gate I heard screams and cries in my subconscious. I tried to open my eyes, but it was useless. It felt as if someone has drugged me. I started to panic and as I fought against the sleep. Suddenly a cloud appeared before my eyes. I stared at it, but nothing happened. I got an idea so I figured maybe I should ask it what I want to see.
‘Show me my body.’ I demanded and the cloud swallowed the room whole. I was standing in the library staring at my body. I was still at the desk, but I was tied up and there was someone standing in front of me. He was wearing a long leather black jacket with a pair of leather biker pants. He was tall and had short brown hair. His eyes were red and he had an evil smile. He looked like a devil ready to take my soul to hell. I started to scream and ran to my body. Before I could reach it I bounced backwards and the cloud vanished.
I was standing in the big white room again.
Okay think. How can you call someone? Think. I started remembering that I can call on someone and give a message through their subconscious thoughts.
I said the first name that popped into my head.
‘Julian.’ The cloud was back and I could see it forming a picture.
His image appeared in front of me. I sighed with relief.
‘Julian, I need your help. I’m at the library.’ I closed my eyes and prayed that he gets my message. I know it’s crazy to think that he can actually hear me, but I was desperate for any help.
Just like that I woke up. Frightened I sat up and started hitting and kicking my attacker.
‘Hey, it’s okay. Calm down Ava. I’ve got you.’ I froze and realized that I recognized this voice. It was Julian. I let him hold on to me and I leaned into him. I was too afraid to ask him if he heard my message.
He will think that I am insane. Maybe I was?
After a few minutes he lets me go and pulls me onto my feet. ‘Let’s get out of here.’
I just nod and he leads me to the elevator. I don’t see the evil man that was in front of me or the old lady at the front desk so I decided that maybe it was just an awful dream.
He is holding onto my hand in the elevator and he keeps on staring blankly in front of him. When the doors open I see a red Volvo parked next to my car. He leads me to it and I hesitate.
‘This looks like a brand new car Julian.’
‘That’s because it is. I thought I should get something that suited my personality. What do you think?’
He really is full of surprises. Not only is he caring, but apparently he could joke too. I smiled and he opened the door for me. I climbed in and crossed my arms over my chest. The shivers were starting up again.
He climbs into the driver’s seat and starts the car.
‘What about my car?’ I ask him in protest. ‘I will come back for it later.’ He says without looking at me.
I stare at him and wait for him to tell me what the hell is going on, but he never makes eye contact with me.
We sat in silence and it was starting to get awkward. ‘How did you find me?’ I blurt out.
He clenches his jaw shut and I can see a muscle jumping in his cheek. ‘You followed me again, didn’t you?’ I demanded. He kept looking at the road and without thinking I pulled the handbrake up. The car starts to spin and slide on the road. I clutch onto my seat and Julian gets the car to a complete stop without totaling it.
‘What is wrong with you? Every time I try to save you, you make things worse.’ He blurts out. I was in utter shock. He stops talking and I can see the regret in his eyes. I guess he can see the look on my face.
‘What do you mean save? What are you talking about?’
He looks at me for the first time with hurt in his eyes and a pain flickers in my chest.
He takes my hand and stares into my eyes. All I can think about is to pull him closer and give him a kiss. I didn’t realize how much I have missed him until now.
‘Do you remember anything from the library?’ he asks me instead. ‘No’ I lie. I couldn’t tell him the truth.
He smirks and turns away. ‘You are lying.’ He is accusing me. Does that mean it was real and not a dream? I look at my feet and realize that this is something I don’t want to talk about. He sees my reaction to his question and touches my face gently with his hand. I melt instantly at his touch. I still feel the sparks when he touches me.
‘I heard you.’ I look up and stare into his eyes for any sign that suggest that he is lying, but I find none.
‘I heard you asking me for help.’ He tries again. I clear my throat and try to sound normal.
‘That was real?’ I ask him.
‘Yes Ava. It was real. You really did it.’ He looks proud of me and he pulls me protectively into his arms.
I realize the reality of his answer and I pull away from him. ‘That means that man was real too’ I whisper hoping that he didn’t hear me, but he did. ‘You saw him?’ he asks with anger and disgust written all over his face. It sounded more of a question for himself than for me. ‘Yes I did. I saw him standing in front of me and he was hurting me.’ I say it as gently as I can. I don’t want to scare Julian away again. I have missed him so much. I have felt so lost and trapped, but with him here I feel free and focused.
‘How did you see him?’ I can see no emotion on his face anymore. He was pulling away from me again.
‘I just asked to see my body and it kind of happened.’ I waited for him to start laughing at me, but he never did. He took the information in and relaxed a bit. ‘You have to understand that he is evil Ava. Always remember this day.’ I look at him confused, but I don’t press him for more information. I enjoy his company and try to go back to sleep hoping that my guardian angel will always be there to catch me when I fall.
I woke up inside a bedroom. I was lying down on a king size bed. All the bedding were white and the curtains were turquoise. It looked like a room fit for a king. It was huge and an open bedroom. The floors were made out of white marble. The room took my breath away.
I got up from the bed and exited the room. I walked down the hall and found Julian in the study. He was sitting in a red leather couch. He looked lost in his thoughts. When I reached the study he looked up and saw me standing there. He smiled at me. He looked happy to see me again. It felt nice.
‘You’re awake.’ He got up and pulled me into his arms. I hugged him back and held onto this moment. He liked to disappear out of my life when he felt like it and he kept reappearing when I needed him the most.
‘Where are we?’ I ask him.
‘This is my house.’ He says and lets me go. He turns his back on me.
‘I’m sorry to do this to you, but you are not going back Ava.’ I stood there in silence trying to find my breath. ‘What do you mean I’m not going back?’ I take a step closer and wait for him to answer my question.
‘I mean that you are not going back to your life. It is not safe.’ I took a few steps back and I tried to breath. Is he kidnapping me, again?
‘I have a family Julian, friends. You can’t keep me here.’
‘I’m sorry.’ Was all he had to say. I ran away from him and looked for the front door. Everything was locked, even the windows was sealed shut.
‘You planned this didn’t you?’ I demanded from him. When I turned around he was standing behind me. ‘I am just trying to keep you safe.’
Just like that this love story turned into my worst nightmare.
