Prologue
I never knew what it would be like as a guardian angel. I always thought that I would just wonder around in heaven without a purpose.
To be assigned to only one human is going to be something to get used to. My human assignment was born only two hours ago and I’m already looking differently at the world. I was assigned to a beautiful little girl with mesmerizing blue eyes that I can get lost into. Her hair colour is light brown that shines like a sunset and she is so small and fragile. She has a light skin complexion that glows.
I have only seen her for a few minutes and I can tell she is going to change everything. We are not allowed to get attached to our human assignments and yet I feel so drawn to her.
I don’t remember how I became an angel but I promised to protect the humans from any danger. I don’t yet know why she needs protection but I already know that I would do anything to keep her safe. Even sacrifice my life for hers.
I live on earth now. I get to experience it just like any other human. I can return to heaven whenever I want though I don’t feel the need to return at all.
The archangels will meet me once a week in the park to get an update on her. I don’t know her name and yet my soul recognizes her.
I don’t know how I’m feeling about this big change in my life but I like the unknown. I have waited so long to be a guardian angel.
It’s been very lonely these past couple of hundred years wandering around and waiting, waiting for my chance to prove that I can be a guardian angel.
I don’t know why Gabriel, the archangel chose me to be her guardian angel, but I’m glad he did.
Gabriel and I have been friends for hundreds of years now and he knows all I ever wanted was to be a guardian angel.
I don’t want power.
I want to protect someone with every fiber of my being.
Gabriel is twice my height and three times my build. He looks like a bodybuilder. He has got blonde hair with hazelnut brown eyes. He is one of the first archangels so he is much respected in heaven. Nobody has ever questioned his actions.
I used to be one of the archangels but after a week I decided that it wasn’t for me.
Instead I became a messenger for the angels.
I would carry important information from one angel to the next. I have traveled the whole earth delivering orders and commands to guardian angels and every time I visited one I got more fascinated with the job.
I talked to Gabriel about transferring to be a guardian angel and he told me that it wasn’t that simple.
‘You have to get nominated Julian’ was all Gabriel would tell me.
I don’t know what changed his mind about me but I’m glad they thought of me. I would do anything to prove that I deserve this even if it means sticking with the rules, even though I don’t agree with rules often.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She has been in the hospital for a whole week now and I’m starting to get worried. I’m always keeping my distance so that her parents don’t get suspicious of me. They have been keeping a close eye on her so it is hard not to get noticed.
I asked Nurse Madison why she has been here for so long. ‘She was born premature and she is struggling to breathe on her own.’
It felt like my heart stopped with the mention that she was struggling to survive. I wish I could take all her pain and tears away. I wish I could touch her, comfort her and tell her that everything is going to be okay.
I heard some of the doctors say that it was a miracle that she even survived. I smiled at that comment. She is a fighter, my everything.
After two months the doctor discharged her. I was so relieved. I now know for sure that she is going to make it. I will be with her until the end of times. I will be able to watch her grow into an extraordinary woman.
Her dad reminds me of Gabriel, big, buff and scary. He has light brown hair just like hers. I wouldn’t want to tick him off.
I wonder what her parents would think of me. Would they think I would be good enough for her?
Stop it!
You are not allowed to fall in love with your human assignment I tried to scold myself.
Somehow I know that it was too late. I fell in love with her the moment I laid my eyes on her. I just wish I could get to know her and stare into those beautiful blue eyes that have put me under her spell.
I don’t know what love is or how it feels. I have had a few girlfriends, but nothing serious. I have never felt like I do now about anything.
She has changed me.
She is going to make this harder than I have hoped for.
Her dad brought the car to the front of the hospital and jumped out of the car to help her mom.
They drove a red Audi A4. When they opened the door in the back I saw a bright pink car seat with a canopy.
On the canopy there was a name that had been embroiled.
I couldn’t make it out.
I wish I knew what her name was.
When they drove off I extended my wings and followed them. My wings are made of muscles, bones and thousands of big white feathers. It extends up my shoulders. When I stretch my arms out of my sides I can barely reach them. My wings are a big part of me and I feel strong when they are at my sides.
They live fifteen miles away from the hospital. That short time we were separated felt like an eternity. I wish I can have her all to myself.
How I wish…
Their house was well located in a quiet safe setting. It has a sweeping view of the city and the mountains. The house is painted light brown and the window frames white. At the front entrance of the house are four white pillars. The house has a fireplace, stunning hardwoods, box beam ceilings and it has an upper level. The garage is built next to the house on the left hand side of the house. It even had a deck and patio in the backyard.
After investigating the house and setting I grinned. This is perfect for my girl.
That same afternoon her parents held a party to celebrate that she was finally home. I am trying to blend in with the other guests.
The backyard was full of guests. There were tables and chairs set on the lawn for six people at a table. There were pink balloons everywhere. They had caterers working and serving all of the guests. It looked like a big function.
I started scanning the crowd for her parents.
I need to be close to her.
I need to know what her name is.
After walking around the backyard and searching for her parents, I saw them standing on the deck. Her mom was holding her securely in her arms and showing her to the guests who wished to see her. This was my chance to see her up close. When I started walking towards the deck something caught my eye. I took a step back and looked up. I saw a huge pink banner draped outside on the upper level of the house.
‘Welcome home Ava Sanders’
Ava.
That’s her name.
I finally know what her name is.
