Chapter Five

"Who are you and what is your mission?!" I shivered his eyes turned red and I feared for my life. I dragged my nails on his hands trying to get him to loosen his firm grip on my throat. "P- P- Please..." I wailed. I could feel myself going lifeless slowly. "Answer me!" He gripped my throat harder and I could feel my air pipes breaking. I went limp in a matter of seconds and hit my head on the floor. The last thing I could remember was him scoffing and kicked at my sides. ******** I whimpered awake, my neck hurts like a b***h and my head is pounding so hard. I stood off the floor and managed to walk my sore bones to the bed. I want to go home. I can forgive my parents and forget any of these happened but no, this is my reality. His eyes flashed in my head and I shuddered. Ever since I saw him at the dining hall I was wary of the guy. It was evident he didn't trust me or he doesn't even like me. Now I've gained two enemies in one day. I sighed. What a great achievement. "Are you awake?!" I looked to the door, sighing at the familiar voice. "Yes. I'm coming!" I groaned as I stood up, my aching bones made it difficult to enjoy my morning. I opened the door to see a frowning Asher. "What happened to your neck." "Oh. Um. Well, your friend gave me a little visit last night, accusing me of being on an 'undercover mission', I air quote. "And almost choked me to death." Asher just stood there his mouth agape. "I knew something was wrong. Last night he came to my room a little bit more annoyed than usual and acting paranoid." "Well, he can't blame me, I didn't come here on my own. If I had a choice I would have escaped as soon as I can. I hate everyone here. They are so judgemental and cold, I could see it in their eyes. " Oh... That's..." He cleared his throat. I looked at Asher confused at his reaction before it clicked. "Well except for you. You're the only person making this hell a little more bearable." I smiled a little. A knock halted our conversation. "Who is it?" "It's time for the lessons." She spoke hardly from the door. "Oh. Can you give me ten minutes?" I hadn't clean myself yet, and my bones felt tender. "Ten minutes!? How the hell am I supposed to waste my time waiting for you!?" "I need to..." "She said to give her ten minutes!" Asher growled. "My lord I'm sorry, I-I...didn't know you were there. I w-would come back in ten minutes." She walked off. "See. How am I supposed to cope here?" "You have me." He wiggled his eyebrows. I chuckled. "Well you can't be everywhere I am. Following me around would just make matters worse." He raised an eyebrow and I raised one back. He sighed. "We would figure it out together, but for now you smell like trash." My cheeks reddened. " You jerk!" I moved to hit him and he sped out of the room chuckling. I ran into the bathroom and showered as fast as I could and wore the first clothes I set my eyes on. I sat on my bed wearing a short blue dress. My leg bounced up and down. My nerves were getting the best of me. I imagined how it was going to be seeing everyone else that lives in this palace. I silently prayed it won't be like yesterday. A knock on my door had me jumping to my feet and opening the door to meet a sneering bitter hearted woman. She glared at me with disgust and turned around telling me to follow her. "In this huge mansion we have different floors... the highest goes to the Lord of the Mansion and his wife, the lowest goes to the slaves. But surprisingly you don't seem to share a room with the slaves when you are one." She muttered the last words under her breath. I just walked awkwardly at the new information. "So your work would be to personally work in the first three floors starting from the highest." "How many..." "Eight!" She shot coldly. "The last two floors belong to the slaves, the next three are the dining hall, ballroom, guest rooms, and the blood bank." "The kitchen and storage room are on the first floor with the slaves in charge of food." "So at the moment we have guests which means they stay at the..." "Third to the fifth floor," I answered smoothly. We walked quietly as we walked several stairs going to the top floor. "Isn't there an elevator here, I gasped already losing my oxygen." She stood frozen and turned towards me with hate. "Yes. We do have elevators. But you use one as a slave and get ready to be hanged and fed to Lord Edward's vultures." She turned away and walked towards the last stairs we have to climb. I gulped. This place has inhumane rules. How can someone climb this many stairs early in the morning without collapsing? We stopped in front of two guards who stood firmly at the door. One I the guards knocked on the door and a voice answered. "Come in." I squirmed. We walked in and I felt like running out of the room immediately. "My Lord, We're here to clean your chambers." We both bowed. The Lord just grunted and walked out of the room, a young vampire of Asher's age followed behind him. Immediately the door clicked shut, she turned to face me with that same sneer. "In here, you have to be very delicate with everything you touch. Make sure you do them perfectly." She walked towards the windows. "The Lord doesn't like too much light in his room. The room must be bright enough to see, not too bright." " So you open the curtains halfway." "In the bathroom, you have to replace everything he uses with a new one. From his toothbrush to his towel and toothpaste." "We move all of them to the first floor, that's what we use." I gagged, used toothbrush? No way ma'am. She opened the cabinet in the bathroom, pulling out everything in there to the sink. The bathroom was a sight to see but at the same time, it looks like where a serial killer would keep his weapons. Another slave came in minutes after with new supplies. We cleaned the room and left for the Lady of the house's room. We walked in and my jaw dropped, the room was so huge and it looked way better than expected. Everything in here just glittered. To a poor slave, it would be so tempting to steal something. I'm sure she would hardly notice. We also replaced all her supplies with new ones and we left. "One thing you should remember. If anything should be missing in the royals chambers it is all on you, because you're the only one allowed to go in there..." She grinned and walked off.
