Chapter Thirteen

1109 Words
I woke up to a very disturbing noise at night. Someone was inside the cell room! I thought in alarm. The unseen stranger walked slowly into the room the thump from the stranger’s feet was scary and I thought it odd for someone to walk in here at this time of the night.   I backed slowly into the cell and sat at the darkest corner of the room. The foot-steps continued and I heard the angry smacking of several cell doors and my heart sped and in a flash a set of red eyes was staring into my cell.   My erratic heart beat might have given away my presence but instead I refused to believe the fact and held my mouth tight with my hands to prevent any sounds from escaping from my mouth.   The vampire snarled and flashed his fangs, the moon lit up oddly from somewhere in the underground room creating an eerily atmosphere. My chest kept heaving up and down, and the vampire growled louder. His eyes were now brightly glowing red before he disappeared.     ****    The sun had already risen by now, because I could hear the usual activities going on in the upper room. But unusually I heard more shouting and rapid movements.   I wondered if they were preparing for me to be beheaded and I shuddered. Ever since I met glowing eyes last night I was unable to sleep, every little noise and I was at alert. My fear of the vampire coming back had me on edge all night that I almost forgot I probably was going to be killed anyway.   I heard footstep in the cell room and I stood up, preparing for anything, until I was surprised by Haden, who opened the cell door and walked in towards me.   “Quick. We have to go.” He snapped   “What’s happening?” I asked when we walked out of the cell rooms and I was met with servants running up and down their clothes wet from the heavy down pour.   “Mariel and three other servants were found dead outside this morning. Their heads were ripped off and their hearts were missing.” We walked past all the commotion and no one seemed to notice I was out of the cell and escaping the mansion.  “Where are we going?”   “It’s obvious were planning an escape, Asher is outside with a car prepared for you to leave this place. Before Evelyn figures you escaped, you would have been far away.”   We walked towards a secluded area and walked into the elevator. I followed him quickly forgetting about the stupid rules about elevators. It’s not like I would be here anyways to face the consequences.   The elevator dinged open and we rushed to the door taking an umbrella with me and Haden just went to the door pushing it open and walking into the rain without an umbrella.   I shrugged instead and stepped into the rain after him, his decision to have an early morning shower with clothes on was not my problem. I wondered if vampires do catch a cold or even any illness at all.  We walked in the rain, thunder flashing in the skies angrily as we pushed through the heavy down pour, the strong wind made walking much harder and my umbrella was nearly about to fly off my hands by the wind.    I saw Asher up ahead he was also struggling to hold his umbrella.   “Decided not to hold an umbrella didn’t you.” Asher teased Haden and the latter just glared at him.  “Let’s go Cecile we have a long drive ahead of us.” Asher motioned for me to follow him and Haden shouted after us.   “I would meet you after I’m done here!”  The familiar feel of the portal took me down memory lane and we walked towards the car parked at the side of the deserted road and in a few seconds we were on the road driving to some where I don’t even know yet.   ‘Where are we going? Aren’t you going to be in trouble for escaping with a prisoner?”   “Chill woman! They wouldn’t be able to punish me if they can’t find me.” Asher smirked and I shook my head.   “At least tell me where we’re going and why you’re leaving with me anyways.”   “First off, we’re getting out of the country to The Alphanes, Haden and I bought a small cabin there back when we were mischievous vampire brats.” He smiled.   “Second, we have a lot to talk about concerning your Diary and we need as much focus as we can and we can’t do that when we’re in the mansion.”   “Did you find anything, I need to know?”    “Yes. A lot and we don’t need temperal mistresses breathing down our necks. But I have to tell you something.”   Asher became serious and all signs of his usual amusement flew out the window.  “For some reasons Uncle E is hiding something, and we believe it’s something big. Because is not every day he brings in a human to live in his mansion as a slave and not as a living blood bag.”   “My point is, Uncle E has a reason why he brought you into the mansion and it’s not a coincidence that you happen to possess the diary that once belongs to Haden’s mother. It all seems fishy and we are about to find answers because your presence in the mansion is more than the eyes see.”   “So you and Haden, decided to illegally leave the mansion with me because you want to find out what the big secret is?”   “Yes, because Uncle E doesn’t do anything without a reason. And did I tell you that Katherine is coming along?” Asher spoke with so much enthusiasm and I shivered at the thought of what was bound to happen.  “Why didn’t anyone tell me about this?”   “Because Cecile, it would spoil the surprise.” Asher laughed and I shot him a dirty look wishing he was not driving because I would have smacked him in the head.  “This trip is going to be interesting.”   “You bet it would.”
