Chapter Eleven

1041 Words
I kept a straight face the whole journey back to my room. I made sure not to look anyone in the eye, in case I met someone I really want to avoid.   By the time I came to the familiar passage I walked faster and threw my door open, locked it, fell on my bed and open the flood gates of tears.   I just couldn’t take all the drama going on in my life, I never asked for it. Why would I? I was just living fine back home. I preferred sulking all day about my broken heart than to get bullied for something I don’t even know about.   Why does it have to be me? Just imagine, I’m the only human here. I don’t even have anyone I could confide in, no one to talk to all day. Every other slave sees me as the villain, I walk out of my room every morning and everyone looks at me with weird faces as if they could signify I was not among them.   I just want this nightmare to end.   “Ahhhh!” I growled in frustration.   *** I woke up the next morning to a brutal headache. I groaned and rolled off my bed lazily and walked on my knees to my bathroom. I opened my bathroom door and managed to walk on my feet. With my eyes half open I walked to the ceramic sink and splashed my face with water and sighed when I felt human again.   I didn’t bother looking at my reflection; instead I picked up my brush, spread tooth paste on it and washed my teeth. While brushing I remembered what the ex-head slave, Mariel, told me about the bathroom supplies routine.    I almost gagged in disgust. I was a good thing I thoroughly cleaned the brush before using it. I gagged thinking of the disgusting information again. I dropped the brush when I was through and stepped into the tub and had a quick bath before I started my usual work.   My mind scanned through all the plans I had today. I would clean the royals’ room for two hours. I sighed at that thought. And then I planned on visiting the library. I would have preferred going to the library in the mansion but I couldn’t, the kind of book I was looking for might raise an eyebrow and I don’t want to have a pissed vampire knocking on my door in the middle of the night.   I closed Lady Evelyn’s room and sighed in relief. The whole time I was in there I was jumpy, scared that Lady Evelyn might walk in any moment. I rubbed my hands on my mini dress and walked towards the long stairs on my way to the public library.   I met Mariel halfway down the stairs and she just glared at me.   “What are you doing here? I don’t remember asking you to bring anything.” I eyed what Mariel was holding with suspicion.   “It’s none of your business witch. Just because I’m no longer head slave doesn’t mean the Lady can’t send me on errands!” She spat and climbed past me.    I just glared at her and made my way down the rest of the stairs, took a few turns and walked out the door without further interruptions. I breathed in the air immediately I was outside. The familiar fog all over the place made me shiver and I walked around the house to the back, taking a clear path towards the woods.   The first and only time I was here was when Asher took me around the place. I was a little surprised to find out that there were other vampires except for those in the mansion.   The wind blew past me softly and I brushed my hair out of my face, the woods was very quiet except for the croaking of frogs and crickets and sometimes the rustle of reptiles and little animals on the ground.   Anxiety washed over me and my heart sped up, the anticipation of what I want to do course through me like adrenaline. I increased my pace slowly until I was running my heart danced along to the rhythms of my feet on the ground. I stopped abruptly when I got close the end of the forests path and I could hear the noises of the busy town activities. I smiled and walked slowly joining the other villagers as they continued with their normal activities. Some of them gave me odd looks and some suspicion.   Apart from that no one approached me accusingly except for a few teenagers handing out fliers for a play. I looked around me and smiled again, the town was like a hidden place from the eyes of humans, they had everything we humans had. They had a small fast food restaurant, a club, a bank , school an arcade, clothing store and every other thing.   And I almost forgot these people were vampires not humans for a moment, I wished that could happen but sadly I get reminded every single time that I am the prey to these blood sucking demons. I slapped my fore head a little when I almost missed the turn I was supposed to take and took my mind of the scene and focused on where I was going.    I could see the library building from where I stood and I smiled a little. I walked closer and I almost missed the feeling that I was being watched. I stopped to look around me with a frown.   I stood still looking around me for a minute and I saw nothing. I continued to the library door thinking I was subconsciously overthinking, before I took the first step to the library I was dragged by someone to the secluded corner of the library building and pushed to a wall.    I opened my mouth to scream but I was gagged and I felt myself going unconscious. I sighed, I wasn’t even ready yet, but when would I ever be?
