01 | Orlando to Miami
A L Y S S A "I have no choice, Sam. My mom made that very clear last night when I once again begged her to let me stay at South Meade." I sighed. "She won't listen to me." "So what you going to do, just move and never see any of us again?" "You think you can get rid of me that easily? I don't think so, I'll come see you every weekend! It's only a 3 hour drive." I promised. "Yeah, then every weekend turns into once a month, then a few times a year then it will become holidays only. I can already see it coming." "Can you just stop giving me a hard time? I'm dealing with enough as it is! I'm going to a school where I know no one! I'm moving from my friends, my boyfriend, I'm loosing my team and now I gotta deal with you doubting me." This is the last conversation I'd be having with my best friend, Sam. If you'd of asked me a year ago if I thought I'd have to deal with moving 234 miles away from my school, my friends, my boyfriend and cheer team, leaving them behind in Orlando I'd of hackled in your face like a witch on halloween night, and told you to ask me a serious question, but now... Well now it was true. The past couple months have been rough as hell for me, I'm constantly arguing with my parents about allowing me to stay in Orlando instead of moving to Miami, they just wasn't hearing any of it. Since their semi-successful business as model agents became a multi-billion dollar company my parents needed to be closer to their headquarters and that meant us moving and having a 'better life' as they say, but how can moving from everything you know and love be better for us? My three brothers couldn't wait, but me? I could definitely wait. "I'm not doubting you, I just know how it goes." Sam sighed down the phone. "You better go to sleep you got a long day tomorrow. I'll come see you off before you have to leave." "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow. Night." "Night, Lyss." I barely slept a wink that night, dreading what the morning brought, it's a shame it came faster than I expected it too. I laid awake in bed when my dad knocked on my bedroom door and entered without waiting for me to respond. "Get up, honey. We're leaving in an hour." He shot me a tight smile before leaving, closing the door behind him. "Ugh." I groaned as I ripped the duvet off me and dragged myself out of bed. I headed for the bathroom trying to door handle to find the door locked. "I'm in here, ass face." My younger brother, Ben called out. "Hurry up then, s**t breath." I said as I banged on the door. I leaned against the wall, waiting for him to finish. I finally heard a flush of the toilet then the door unlock. "You didn't even wash your hands? You're gross." I said disgusted as I entered the bathroom. "Oh my god, what the hell have you being eating? Dog food?" I exclaimed as I held my nose from the awful smell he left. He just laughed as he ran down the hall way and down the stairs. "Animal child!" I yelled after him. I sprayed some air freshener and turned the shower on, waiting for the water to warm up. To say I wasn't ready for today was an understatement. I had been dreading this day for months, and now it was finally here I felt physically sick, my stomach had a knot in it and my mind was all over the place. I jumped in the shower and let my brain relax as I closed my eyes and let the hot droplets fall as they may over my body. Soon after I washed my hair and body I jumped out and headed back for my room which was all already packed up and all that was out was my outfit for today, a few bits of make up, deodorant, hairbrush and my pajamas from last night. It was all too depressing. I've lived here my entire life, all my memories in this room we're going to disappear as soon as we leave in that car and apart of me couldn't handle the loss, it sounded so stupid because it's just a bedroom but not to me, it was my little slice of peace. I sighed at the thought and got ready, throwing my skinny, ripped jeans on, cropped shirt and a pair of trainers on, I had to shoved my almost white blonde hair in to 2 french braids and applied a small, natural amount of make up on and headed down stairs. "Morning, sunshine, want some breakfast?" My mom smiled as she placed some pancakes on my older brother, Nick's plate. "I'm good thanks, I'll just have an apple." I said with a little bit of attitude as I grabbed an apple that was left on the side. "Um, that was my apple." My other older brother, Theo said as he entered the kitchen, "You snooze you loose." I sassed him. "Gimme the apple blondie and no one gets hurt." He warned me. I took a bite of the apple making a face at him as I did so. "Ugh, you're a royal pain in the ass." He slumped down on the seat. "Why thank you." I bowed to him in a mocking manner. "Lyss, door honey!" My dad called me from the front door. I walk out to see Sam standing there with my boyfriend, Dan, and my other 2 best friends, Kate and Jess. "Guys, you came!" I beamed as I wrapped my arms around them all at once. "Of course we came, we wouldn't miss you leaving!" Jess grinned as she pulled me into her. "I can't believe this is actually happening, we're going to miss you so much!" Kate said with a sad smile. "I know, but I'll come back every weekend so we can hang out. I swear." "Hey, Lyss, can I talk to you for a minute.. In private?" Dan asked me before immediately walking away towards the drive way. I follow after him as the girls stare down at the floor, suspiciously. "Hey, what's up?" I asked him, not preparing for what was coming next. "I think we should end this now before it becomes too difficult." "What do you mean?" I asked confused, then it clicked. "Wait are you breaking up with me?" I was taken back. "I'm sorry, I don't want too but you being in Miami and me being here... It just isn't going to work. I'd rather end on good terms then let our relationship turn sour, y'know?" He shrugged. "No, Dan. I don't know. If that's really what you want then fine. God you're such an asshole." I scowled. "I'm sorry, Lyss." He called after me as I stormed away. "We're so sorry, Lyss, we tried to talk him out of it but he was adamant about it." Kate pleaded. "It's fine, whatever." I shook my head. "Lyss, come one, grab your things we need to hit the road." My mom called from the kitchen door. "I gotta get ready to go, so... stay in contact?" I gave them a sad smile. "Of course!" Jess and Kate exclaimed dragging me into a 3 way hug while Sam just stood there and nodded. I headed back into the house. I had held my tears back as hard as I could until we got in the car and set off, that was when all my pent up sadness came spilling out in the form of endless tears as I watched my friends wave me off and yell that they love me. "Don't cry, Lyss. Think of this as a new adventure yeah?" Theo wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me in so I could rest my head on his shoulder. My younger brother, Ben leaned his head on my other shoulder and placed his tiny hand in mine while my brother who was sat in the back of the back rested his hand on my head and gently stroked my hair. "You're going to be just fine, Lyss. Don't worry." Nick said from behind me. I may fight and argue with my brothers on a daily basis but I could always count on them when it came to it, they were always there for me when I needed them the most. I just wish Theo kicked Dan's ass before we left. I placed my air pods in my ears, clicked play on my favourite playlist and eventually fell asleep. "Lyss, wake up honey, we're here." I heard my Dads voice as he gently shook me awake. "Umm." I hummed as my eyes opened and I was met with sunrays hitting my eyes and the heat burning my skin. "Jesus, where are we the Sahara desert." My dad laughed as I groaned quickly gathering myself together and exited the car. I looked round to see we were in a suburban area of Miami with a street of big, beautiful houses and across the street was a small, secluded beach with a few people scattered round it. As much as I hate to admit it, it was extremely beautiful and I could definitely see myself living here, I just wish I didn't have to leave everyone behind to do that. "So what do you think? Beautiful right?" My dad beamed as he placed his hand round my shoulder and led me towards the house. It was a large, beautiful mansion like house with grey wooden walls, with a white wooden porch, and large white bay windows with a short walk way to the front door with freshly mowed grass either side of the path, kept enclosed with a white picket fence. It was extremely modern and extremely beautiful. Not that I'd let them know that, besides I'm hardly going to be here anyway, me and my two brothers were getting sent to some pompous college in the next couple days. "Huh, it's okay." I shrugged. "I know you're sad about leaving your friends behind, Dan and the cheer team but you will fit right in here, you're beautiful, smart and blonde sweetheart!" My mom joined in. "Mom we're going to take Lyss out to have a look around, we'll be back in time for dinner." Theo smiled as he walked out the door and headed straight for the gate. "Make sure you are guys, you need to get your things ready to move to Vista Falls." she called after us but we were already out the gate and walking down the street. "Where exactly are you taking me again?" I asked trying to keep up with Theo and Nick. "Thought we'd have a look round the town, see the beach, y'know get your mind of those back home." I smiled at how thoughtful they were being, I was so lucky to have brothers like these two bone heads. We walked, laughed and talked our way to town, which was also so beautiful. It was like my brothers knew exactly where they were going then when we stopped at some beach hut full of college kids I now understood. "You assholes! You ultimate, prized d***s!" I bellowed. "You brought me along so mom would actually let you leave! You wet wipes used me!" "Lyss, chill. All these kids go to our new school, a few I already know." He said as he watched a pretty girl walk past in a bikini and winked at her. "And some I want to know. So go mingle, meet some new friends." "I hate you." I groaned as both ruffled my hair and walked off laughing. I kicked the sand and walked over to the bar that wasn't as full as the make shift sandy dance floor. "Can I have a shot of Jack Daniels please? Hold the ice." I sighed slumping down on the seat at the straw bar. "Tough day?" I heard a deep, velvety smooth voice from behind me. "Something like that." I replied not even looking back to see who was talking. "Jack Daniels for the beautiful lady." The bartender smiled as he placed the whisky glass in front of me. I knocked it back without a second thought and quickly held it up gesturing for another. "Damn little girl, you want to be careful knocking those back like alcho-pops." I heard the voice again. I rolled my eyes and turned round to see who it was. "I think I can handl-" I was cut off by the most breathtakingly gorgeous man in front of me. His hair was dark brown styled in a messy quiff, his eyes were the darkest shade of brown, his mouth was the perfect size for kissing, with a sharp jaw line holding a small amount of stubble, his skin was a glowing with a healthy tan and his body was solid and strong, with bulging muscles. I eyed him up like he was a piece of meat, that's when I got to his face realising he had a devilish smirk on his face knowing full well I was checking him out. "You think you can handle what?" His tone was low and husky, seductive yet playful as his smirk remained in place. "My drinks." I blushed a little. "Good to know because you've got another one waiting for you." He nodded to behind me where my glass had been refilled. I turned around slightly embarrassed and knocked it back to get rid of that feeling. I got up and dusted myself down before turning to the handsome stranger. "I should go find my brothers and get going, nice to meet you." I smiled before rushing off. "I didn't get your name!" He called after me. I ignored him and kept speed walking towards the dance floor where both my brothers were dancing with two of the skankiest girls here. "I want to go, you coming?" I asked them. "And who the f**k are you?" The girl who was dancing with Theo turned to me and spat through furrowed eyebrows. "I'm his sister, who the f**k are you?" I spat back. "Really Theo? Her?" I said with disgust on my face. He gently pushed the girl away from him and stood by my side. "You're right, I can't dance with someone who talks to my sister that way." He said to me before turning to her. "So apologise and move along." "Sorry. Ugh." Then off she stomped. "Theo, I'm going home, this place is too much for me to deal with right now." "What?! No way! My party animal sister wants to leave early to go home and play scrabble with mom and dad. I can't believe it." His tone was dripping with sarcasm. "Not exactly no.." I threw him a look as if to say what the f**k you talking about. "I want to go home because I know no one here." "You know me." The strangers voice appeared from behind me again. "Trey! My man!" My brother and the stranger give each other a fist bump that goes into a man hug. "I'm guessing you've met my sister?" Theo placed his arm on my shoulder. "The Whisky Queen? Of course, only I didn't know she was your sister." He smirked at me. "Yeah man, she's joining Vista Falls this week too." "Welcome aboard." He smiled before leaning into my ear when my brother wasn't looking and whispered. "This is going to be fun."
