"Drew this is Alyssa, she's new this year." I watched as Amy introduced Alyssa to Drew and his eyes lit up and I could see the devil horns appear on his head.
"Hello, Alyssa." He greeted her in a flirty tone.
"She's new money." I joined in with an expressionless tone before walking away from them.
"So you're new money huh? How you finding that then? Exciting?" Josh joined in smiling at her like he's never seen a girl before.
I watched on as Drew continuously flirted with Alyssa, she was laughing and smiling with him, I don't know why, he ain't even that funny, he's just.. Dumb.
"I'm still rooting for you, Trey, don't worry." I heard Amanda's voice from beside me.
"Huh?"
"I see how you look at her, you gotta be blind to not notice it." She grinned as she spoke with her hands on her hips.
"I have no clue what you're on about." I denied.
"So you have no feelings towards Alyssa?"
"Nope. She's cute an all that but she insults like Charlie Sheen on meth."
"Maybe because she's not a malicious person like you and the rest of us. She's sweet."
"Yeah..-" I stopped myself and coughed it off. "I mean she's alright, but she needs some balls if she's going to rumble with the best of them, hence, me."
"You're a lost cause." Amanda rolled her eyes as she walked over to where Alyssa and Drew were with his arm wrapped round her shoulder.
The thought of her getting along with Drew over me bruised my ego for sure. She's new here and already got a handful of boys after her attention and formed a good, quality group of friends.
"Come on guys, we'll have to take my dad's Mercedes SUV." Amy called out.
We piled into Amy's car, I made sure I was sat next to Alyssa in the back, with Amanda by her side, me the other, her in the middle, Josh was driving with Amy is the passenger seat and Drew was behind Alyssa in the back, back.
"Why are we all even going to Nadine's? She's probably crashed in someone's dorm room after how drunk she got at the party the other night." Josh shrugged as he started up the engine and took off.
"Because we're her friends and we're worried about her, especially after VD's text." Amy crossed her arms.
"What VD text?" Drew piped up from behind us.
"Y'know the one where she threw everyone under the bus and told people about mine and Alyssa's kiss." I answered him in a smug tone.
Alyssa obviously wasn't happy by the slap on my arm she gave me.
"What I ain't lying." I laughed.
"Ugh, god you're an ass." She rolled her eyes at me.
"It was a fun night though, no?" I winked.
"You two.. kissed?" Drew asked with a raised eye brow.
"I was-"
"Loving it." I cut Alyssa off causing her to glare at me like a dog who s**t in her favourite Louis.
"I was drunk and it's never happening again, right Trey?" She shot me a wide eye look.
"I mean, I don't know, I'm positive I heard you moaning." I smirked.
"It's. Never. Happening, again. Right Trey?!" This time she looked serious, like Joker when it came to Harley Quinn.
"Never say never."
We had been driving for a couple hours now and decided we should stop off at a gas station to fill up and so whoever needed to could use the rest room.
"Lyssa, come with me, I need you to check I don't have toilet roll stuck in my skirt when I walk out the bathroom." Amanda said as she dragged Alyssa towards the bathroom.
As I was walking into the gas station to buy us all some snacks, Drew jogged up behind me.
"Hey man, so.. I wanted to ask you something?"
"I encourage it, you need all the knowledge you can get."
"Quit being a d**k for a minute and just answer me one question."
"Go on.."
"Is there anything going on with you, and y'know, Alyssa?" He nods towards where Alyssa and Amanda are walking out the toilets.
"Hmm."
I could play this one of two ways. Say yes and get him to back off and enjoy an irritated Alyssa or say no and watch on as he tried to court her.
"Yes, Drew, there is."
He looked at me with a confused expression. "Does she knows this?"
"I'm sure, she's actually kinda shy so that's what that is."
"Ohh, okay." He said disappointed as he walked off.
I let out a devious chuckle to myself knowing he was going to back off as I entered the gas station.
"What's so funny?" Josh asked out of no where.
"I told Drew that Alyssa was with me so he'd back off." I laughed again.
"Bro, she's gonna go mental, y'know that right?"
"Nah, I'll handle Alyssa, don't worry bro."
"You're something else." Josh walked off shaking his head and laughing.
We filled up the tank, grabbed some drinks and snacks. Half of us piled back into the car while the other half of us stood outside the car talking.
"What are you even planning on saying when you turn up to Nadine's house?" Amanda asked Amy. "Oh hey did you and your boyfriend knock over an old man whilst drink driving and leave him for dead?"
Amy shushed Amada as she scanned her surroundings. "You talk so loud, you got a foghorn for a mouth or something? I'm just gonna see if she's there and make sure she's alright."
"I hope you know what you're doing, her father is a real stickler for unannounced guests."
"Her father and my father are good friends, they actually attended Yale together so I'm covered on that scene, thanks Amanda." Amy showed off.
"What do we do if she's not there, then what?" Alyssa asked.
Fuck, she looked cute when she was worried.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get too it."
"Hey, Charlie's Angels, you gonna sit outside all night or we gonna get moving?" I called out from the back seat.
"Prince Charming, ladies and gentlemen." Alyssa rolled her eyes.
The girls jumped back into the car and Alyssa tried to dodge sitting next to me but I knew Amanda had my back, well kinda, she hated sitting in the middle, claimed it gave her car sickness or some s**t.
We drove for another few hours before we reached Nadine's house, that evening, 6 and a half hours later.
A L Y S S A
Josh pulled up outside Nadine's house and Amy made a plan that just us girls would go to the door, the boys wouldn't make it look good on our part with Nadine's dad being a hard ass.
"Right, boys, you wait up the street a little, and turn off the headlights so you don't draw attention to yourself." Amy ordered.
"Hey, Alyssa, come back in one piece otherwise I have no one to annoy." Trey said as I was getting out the car.
"You could come across anyone, and they would find you annoying, Trey." I shot back.
We got out the car and walked up the long pathway that leads to Nadine's front door. Once we reached it, Amy rang the bell and we waited.
Within a couple of minutes an older, black haired woman opened the door, it was pretty clear that it was Nadine's mom.
"Hi Mrs Arenas, how are you today?" Amy smiled and greeted the woman.
"Oh, hi Amy, I wasn't expecting you guys to show up, you looking for Nadine?"
"Yeah, is she home by any chance? We have homework for her, for our project together."
Amy, you little liar, liar pants on fire.
"Sure, girls, she's in her room, go on up."
"Thank you, Mrs Arenas."
Amy led the way while me and Amanda followed closely behind as we climbed the beautiful, spiral staircase up to the second floor, down a long, pristine hallway and stopped at a large, white wooden door with Nadine's name on it. Amy knocked once and entered without waiting for a response. We walked in behind her to see Nadine laid on her bed hugging a pillow, looking a little worse for where.
"Amy, Lyssa, Mandy? What are you guys doing here?!" She sat up so fast I was scared she gave herself whiplash.
"We were worried about you, why aren't you on campus?" Amy sat on the bed beside her.
"Is everything okay?" I asked.
"So you saw the text from VD and automatically thought it was me and Jace?" She held the pillow tighter against her chest.
"Well weren't you, isn't that why you're here?" Amanda suggested.
"Jace did, I wasn't there and when I said he should he come clean and hand himself in, he broke up with me." She explained and burst out in surprising amount of tears.
"He did what?!" Amy exclaimed.
I sat on the other side of her while Amy knelt down in front of her, we all comforted her in one way and she dropped her head on my shoulder and cried uncontrollably until there was nothing left.
"His loss if you ask me, Nad. You're hot and he's a loser." I tried to comfort her.
"You really think?" She sniffled as she wiped her eyes.
"I do. You're a catch and if he can't see that then screw him."
She stood up and wiped her face vigorously before flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"You're right, I'm Nadine fricking Arenas. Latino queen of Vista Falls. Screw him, he was lucky to even see under my panties!"
"Yeah, there ya go, girl." I laughed.
'How the hell did you manage that?' Amanda mouthed silently to me.
I just laughed while shrugging because I genuinely had no f*****g clue.
"So you going to come back to campus?" Amy asked. "I miss my roomie."
"I'll be back tomorrow, I'll get my dads driver to drive me. I gotta go to a stupid dinner tonight with my parents, at the Van Du Ponts." She eye rolled the last part.
"Yesss!" Amy cheered leaping into her arms.
"So, we better get going, we left the boys in the car for like an hour now." Amanda announced sheepishly.
"The boys?" Nadine tilted her head and raised a brow.
"Yeah, Trey, Josh and Drew." I answered her.
"You brought the football team to my house and didn't warn me?!" Nadine exclaimed.
"Sorry?" Amanda said a little too sarcastically.
"Oh my god, do not tell them that Jace broke up with me, they will totally take the piss out of me!"
"They won't." Amy wafted the air.
"But we won't say a word don't worry." I jumped in trying to save Amy's ass shooting her a wide eye, warning look.
"Yeah, totally." Amy clicked on pretending to zip her lips.
"So we'll see you tomorrow?" Amanda asked.
"Yeah, deffo. Oh and Alyssa, come to try outs on Monday, I'll pencil you in."
"You got it.." I smiled nervously.
We said our goodbyes to Nadine and her parents and headed back to the car.
"Are you going to go to try outs on Monday?" Amanda asked me as we walked back towards the car.
"I mean, I guess so?"
"It's just you didn't seem so excited when Nadine told you to go Monday." She shrugged.
"I know, it's just I never thought I'd cheer for anyone but my own team, y'know?"
"I get that, but you should totally go, show Trey all your assets." She said the last part in a flirty tone.
"I don't wanna show Trey nada." I said disgusted.
"Oh, please. You totally have a thing for each other."
"We do not!" I defended myself.
"Okay.. you don't." She smirked.
We got back in the car and Amanda nudged me to sit in the middle, yet again.
"Everything good?" Trey asked me as I adjusted myself in the seat text to him.
"Yeah, she's coming back tomorrow." I answered him casually.
"And she's forcing Alyssa to go to try outs on Monday." Amanda gently elbowed me wiggling her eyebrows.
"She is, looking forward to seeing you in that mini skirt, Parkes." Trey smirked.
We set off on our drive back to the campus, we were a few hours in and already at a diner to grab some food when my phone started ringing. I looked at the caller ID to see it was Sam, my best friend from back home.
"Excuse me, I gotta get this." I said getting up from the booth we were all sat in.
"Sam, hey!" I answered happily as I walked outside the diner for some quiet.
"Hey, where are you? I thought you were coming up this weekend?"
"I'm so sorry, everything here has been a little hectic, I was meant to call you but I had to go to Tallahassee to check on one of the girls, something happened and-"
"Yeah, okay, Alyssa. I knew this would happen." She snapped at me, cutting me off mid sentence.
"What? I was going to come back but they wanted me to go with, it was important."
"And coming back to see your actual friends wasn't?"
"It's not like that and you know it, Sam."
"Do I? Because it seems a lot like that to me right now, to all of us, actually."
"I can't believe you think that, of me especially. You know you girls are everything to me."
"Well I'd hate to see how you treat someone who's your entire world then, Lyss. Thanks, I guess we know where we stand now."
"Sam- Sam?"
She hung up on me without even hearing me out! I was so frustrated I let out a grunt of irritation as a stray tear left my eye and rolled down my cheek.
"Everything okay, Parkes?" I heard Trey's voice from behind me.
I didn't even turn round to face him, not in this state I was in, not for him to make fun of me and tell me how stupid I was being.
"Yeah- Yeah, um, I'm fine, go back in, I'll be right there." I tried to hide my voice breaking.
He wasn't falling for it though, he saw straight through me and I knew it when he didn't leave me outside the diner crying like a big ol' baby, instead he walked round to the front of me and lifted my chin up with his finger.
"Talk to me. What's made you cry?" His voice wasn't played by amusement this time, it was low and genuine.
