Chapter 8

Raven I arrived at my workplace earlier than I usually do due to some... unknown reasons. I walked towards my office and the legal floor is on the same floor as mine. I stopped for a bit looking at the door whose name was now engraved on the frosted-glass door. Raoul Elijah Grey, Head Corporate Counsel Well that was fast. The lettering looked too clean. Looks permanent too. I continued walking as I reach my office, heels clicking. It's just another regular day... Another contract to review... and another overpaid suit to manage! Before going inside my office, I heard his voice down the hall. Deep, controlled. Now that is a maddening calm tone. He's going to scare everyone! I chuckled before completely entering inside my office. Few moments later, no knocking, he came in. Of course, he will never knock. He doesn't know how to knock. "Good morning, CEO Raven Buenavente." I didn't look up just so he wouldn't see a slight smile he brought out of me. I cleared my throat to remove all of my emotions and focused myself toward some paperworks that I don't even understand as of the moment. Still not looking at him. "First day," I stated, my eyes still on the papers in my desk. I sighed, heavily. "Already making it a habit to barge in your boss's office?" I now looked up to him and he smirked. "Only into offices I've already seen you cry in." I rolled my eyes as I remembered that. "It was one tear," I defended. "From rage." I reasoned. "It was still beautiful." He shrugged like what he said was nothing. I smirked, playfully. "You're here to work, not flirt." I said, rising to my feet, walking slowly towards him. "Wasn't flirting. That was admiration. Entirely legal." "For now," I muttered. "So smart of you, Attorney Raoul." I mocked. I went closer to him and handed him a folder. "This is your onboarding packet. HR insisted. Try to be nice." "I am nice." He answered before getting the folder. "Then try not to scare them." "They were already scared." "Good. You'll fit right in." I smirked and stood closer to him than necessary. Close enough that I smelled his perfume. He smells expensive. I softly picked up his tie from my right hand and played with it. "You still remember where legal is, right?" I asked. I saw his adam's apple move. "Unfortunately, yes. Team's still terrified of me." "And me?" I asked. He paused at that question. His expression shifted from being somehow unreadable to something quieter beneath the sarcasm. "You're not scared of me," he said, after a slight silence. "No." "Then that makes one of us." Silence. I let go of his tie and took a step back. "This isn't going to be like before." I warned. "Before?" he asked, confused. "Before you were mine in name only. Now you're on my payroll." I rolled my eyes playfully before smirking. His eyes gleamed, slight. "Then I'll be on my best behavior, CEO." I hate it. I hate that sound coming from him. I didn't smile or anything but his small smile tells me that he knew. "Get out of my office, Raoul Elijah." I turned my back on him to walk towards my table. "I can still come here if I want to, right?" He asked and even if I don't see him right now, I know he's smirking right through that question. "Don't get used to it." I answered. The moment I sat down, I looked at him who's at my door. "Let me know if you need anything, Raven." I didn't answer and just seconds later I found myself staring at the closed door of my office. My heart is absolutely not doing what it should. He's going to be here every day. And us? Faking it? I don't really know anymore. I sighed and tried to also be on my best behavior and just focus about work. I didn't even bother to eat lunch and a snack because I know he's there! I was doing work on my laptop until I heard a click of my door being closed and even though I'm not looking at my door, I just know who will enter my office without knocking! "I guess this is the best behavior that you promised, Attorney Grey?" I asked before looking at him and I froze the moment I saw him bringing food. "You didn't eat." He pointed out the obvious. "I was busy." I murmured. "Busy with work or busy ignoring me?" He said, seriously. I sighed. "Don't overthink it, Raoul. I always do this. Ask my secretary." I pointed at the door. He placed the food on my desk and leaned closer. "Should I add to our contract that you should eat?" He threatened. I glared at him and he glares back. "Eat or I'll make you." He threats more. My brow raised at that. "So bossy, Mr. Grey." "I'm not playing, Rave. I'll finish up some paperwork for a bit. I'll come back here after I'm done and I want that food be finished by the time I get back here." "You know that I'm your boss, right?" I said, reminding him. "Apparently you're my girlfriend." He answered and I don't know how to answer that. "In contract." I said, softly. "But that doesn't mean I won't care for you anymore. Eat, Rave." He said, more softly. Before walking out of my office. I really hate this. I should've set up a deadline regarding our deal.
