Chapter Thirty Four

2049 Words
I had no idea how long I stayed there, staring at the wall, an unconscious Liam laying on the floor, his head on my lap while I stroked his blood soaked hair. Tears rolled down my cheeks, the pain of Jacob's mark pulsating. The elevator doors opened and Tony stepped in. "s**t Adelaide." He rushed over, holding a vial. "Are you okay… f**k, you need to take some of this, give your cousin the rest. I'll get a doctor." "W...what's that?" I asked, staring at the vial containing a red liquid. "It's the Prime's blood, it has some healing properties." He explained, handing it to me. "Make sure you take it, I'll go get the doctor." He left, my attention was on the vial. Healing properties... I looked down at Liam His heartbeat was incredibly weak. Without wasting another second, I unscrewed the cap and raised Liam's head up to a certain degree. I placed the vial against his lips. "Please drink, you can't die on me." I begged, reaching for his wolf who was barely hanging on. Nudging him softly, I had him open Liam's mouth and I fed him the blood, making sure he swallowed everything. I poured the remaining one of the lacerations on his abdomen, watching as the bleeding stopped. Colour returning to his face, I sagged against the wall as his heart beat became stronger. Tony came back with the doctor who immediately rushed to my side, his eyes on my neck. "Luna Prime..." "No, attend to him first." I whispered. "But..." "Please" I begged, he nodded and moved to Liam before turning to Tony. "Can you get him to the clinic?" Tony nodded and picked up Liam in his arms. "Be careful." I called out, struggling to my feet, my legs almost giving out. "Luna..." I waved the doctor away, the edges of my vision darkening. "I-I'm fine. Liam is your priority." I ordered, he nodded hesitantly. "At least let me help you to the hospital." I nodded, immediately regretting as a wave of dizziness and pain hit me. I leaned into his embrace and we walked to the elevator together. I glanced at Liam who was in Tony’s arms, one of his hand hanging limp, blood dripping down his fingers onto the floor of the elevator. Tears welled in my eyes and I sniffed back a sob, biting my bottom lip to stop it from escaping. The elevator opened at the ground floor and Tony stepped out with Liam heading to the front door, we followed them, each step was pain filled and I had to grit my teeth to stop the whimpers from escaping. We got into the car and Tony whisked us to the hospital which was a 3 minute drive from the cottage. Two nurses were already waiting with a stretcher as we pulled up. Tony laid him on the stretcher and he was wheeled in. "We'll evaluate him." The doctor assured me. "I'll send a nurse to treat your neck." He followed the nurses and I was left alone, my body trembling as I wrapped my arms around my body, the metallic smell of Liam's blood clung to me. "Hey... it's going to be fine." Tony assured, pulling me into his arms. I let the tears fall, sobs escaping my lips as I clutched onto him. "He has to be fine, Oh Eda he has to be fine. I... I don't know what I'm going to do if he doesn't make it." "He'll make it. Jacob's blood will help." He replied "This is all my fault." I whispered, sobbing. "He said this was a bad idea... and I still went ahead with it and now... now... he's hurt." I looked up at Tony, my vision blurred, my throat thick with emotion. "I can't lose Laim T-tony, I can't lose my rock, I'll die if he dies.” "Don't say that Adelaide." He said, wiping the tears away. “He's in the best hands, Shaun is the best doctor we have." "Luna?" I turned to see a nurse, holding a tray. "Let's get your neck treated." "W....what about Liam?" I asked, glancing at the door he had been wheeled through. "The doctor is still attending to him. You have nothing to worry about Luna." She assured me but the thought of leaving my spot and something happening to him sent me further spiralling. "I... I...." "How about this? I'll stay here. You go get treated and the moment the doctor comes back, I'll come get you." He suggested. "P-promise" I asked. "I promise." I nodded and let the nurse lead me away. I glanced at the double doors before following her round the corner. We got to a room . "Please sit." I did as she said, looking down at my bloodstained hands. Liam's blood My eyes watered, my breathing ragged as my body began to shake. This should be in his body, flowing through his veins and not on my hands, not a puddle on Jacob's basement floor. "Luna?" I could hear the nurse calling out but the sight of Liam’s blood on my hands was sending me into a panic induced haze. “Luna?” I snapped back to reality and looked up at the nurse whose brows were furrowed and a look of concern in her eyes. “Y-yes?” I inquired. "I'll be right back, I just need to get more cotton wool." She explained. That's too much time. "C-can't you use the ones you already have?" I inquired, she shook her head. "It won't be enough, I'll be back before you know it." I watched her leave before glancing at the tray. Gnawing on my lower lip, I looked at the clock, the long hand ticking away. It seemed to echo with every second. I can't just stay here. I got up and grabbed the tray, heading to the bathroom. I knew basic first aid and I was sure that would serve me. I moved my hair from my neck, staring at the two angry red puncture wounds. The flesh around the wounds was swollen. I poured the disinfectant into a smaller bowl, dipping the cotton wool. Steeling myself, I pressed the cotton wool to the wound, almost immediately my world tilted upside down, the pain immeasurable. I blinked away the black spots, my shaky hands almost dropping the cotton wool. I continued to wipe away the blood until the sight was clean. I pressed a bandaid to the sight, hissing in pain. I stared at myself in the mirror, bloodshot eyes, flushed face. I arranged my hair to cover my neck before walking out of the toilet. "Luna?" I looked up to see the nurse standing there, a confused look on her face. "It's fine, I know how to treat a wound." "But..." "Please, I need to get back to my cousin." I pleaded. She sighed. "Alright, but the moment you feel something is wrong, I want you to come back here." She instructed, I nodded, forcing a smile. "Thank you." With that, I walked back to where Tony was waiting. Delilah had joined him. They looked up at me, she stood and walked up to me. "Ms Adelaide..." She whispered, I stared at her, the tears gathering in my eyes once more. "Oh Ms Adelaide..." She pulled me into a hug and I buried my face in the crook of her neck, soft cries leaving me. "It's going to be fine." She assured me, stroking my hair. "Luna?" It was the doctor. I spun around, wiping the tears. "H-how is he? Is he okay?" I inquired. "Yes, the Prime's blood healed most of the deep wounds, we were able to suture others while his body began healing the rest." He explained. I sagged against Delilah, relief filling my body. "Thank you, thank you so much. Can I see him?" "Yes you can." He said, gesturing to a nurse. "She'll show you the way." The nurse led us through the double doors, down a hall to the room. She opened the door and stood to the side. I walked in, my eyes on Liam, I slid onto the seat next to the bed, reaching out to hold his hand. They had wiped off the blood from his face, neck and hands. I pressed a kiss to hand. "I'm so sorry Lili, I'm so sorry." I whispered over and over. "Luna?" I looked up to see Tony. "I'll be back but for now, I need to see to some errands." I nodded. "T-thank you Tony." I replied, he bowed before leaving and I turned my attention back to Liam. **************** ************** ************** JACOB I stared at papers in front of me, unable to concentrate. A frustrated growl escaped my lips and I tossed the pen onto the table. I had punished her for her part in the assassination attempt and murder of Sam Hatley. I should feel satisfied, happy even, yet I felt like throwing myself off the highest point in Yellowstone, I felt even worse than that night… nine years ago. The door opened and Tony walked in. "How is she?" I asked immediately. "Well..." He began, taking a seat. "They are both in the hospital, her cousin is in stable condition and she's a mess." I didn't think it was possible to feel even shitier. "Did she drink the blood?" "Yeah, I asked her to." He replied. I nodded, turning my attention back to the papers yet I could feel Tony's eyes on me. "Is there anything else?" I inquired. "Depends if what I want to say is going to have me end up a drooling mess with little to no brain capacity." Sighing, I closed the file and folded my arms. "Go ahead." "Have you ever thought about looking at this entire thing from her point of view?" "Nothing can justify treason and what she did was akin to that." I growled. "Actually if someone killed my entire pack and I got the opportunity to have my revenge, the thought that my actions are treasonable will be the last thing on my mind." "Your point being?" He rolled his eyes and I narrowed mine at him. "Look man, all I'm asking you is to take it easy on her. Adelaide is as much a victim of this as you and this feud between you two, it isn't going to solve anything." I contemplated his words. "If you're done, you can go." He sighed, shaking his head before leaving me to my thoughts. Damn you Tony, Damn you to hell. **************** ******************* ****************** ADELAIDE "You should eat." Delilah uttered, I shook my head, still staring at a sleeping Liam. It had been hours since he had been brought out of surgery and I had not left his side. "I'm not hungry." I whispered, holding his hand. The doctor had assured me he was going to be fine but it did nothing to alleviate the guilt that was eating me alive. "But Luna, you haven't eaten anything and it's evening already." She protested. I ignored her and the pulsating pain that radiated from my neck down my upper arm, the entire muscles in my neck was stiff and moving was becoming a pain. "How can I eat when I'm the reason why my cousin is lying in this state?" "I don't think your cousin will approve of you starving yourself." She pointed out. "Then let him wake up and scold me for it." I replied, squeezing his hand, not taking my eyes off him. “Let him wake up and threaten to never talk to me again until I eat.” “At least let me get you a bottle of water, it’s one thing to starve yourself, it’s another thing to stay thirtsty.” I ignored her, my mind thinking of Uncle Pete and how he had lost Aunty Rose and now his only son’s life was in danger all because of me. I heard Delilah sigh before leaving the room, the door closing behind her. "Please wake up Liam." I whispered, kissing his palm. "You have to wake up." I blinked back the tears as I continued sitting there, keeping watch as the afternoon gave way to evening and then night.
