Chapter Twenty Eight

I arrived back into Yellowstone by 11.30pm, the night guards were stationed by the door, they bowed as I approached the front door. I nodded and opened the door, making my way in. I closed the door behind me and headed up the stairs. “There is a curfew in my territory.” I turned to see Jacob standing at the bottom of the stairs. “And how is that any of my concern?” I inquired. “You're a part of my territory so my rules apply to you too.” He said, walking up the stairs. “So let me get this straight, all those times of me coming back home, you never for once said anything but the moment I decide to have lunch with someone, you bring up a curfew. It's quite funny don’t you think?” “What's funny is you thinking I won't find out who you had lunch with.” He uttered, coming to a stop in front of me. “William Atka Hanta, promising young man. It'll be a shame if something happened to him.” I narrowed my eyes on him. “You wouldn't.” I growled. “Want to bet?” I glared at him. “You're impossible.” I continued on my way when he placed a hand on my arm, stopping me. “I’ve had a really tiring day and I don't have the energy to de…” “What you said this morning… did you mean it?” He inquired, his voice soft. I frowned, brows knitted together. “What are you talking about?” I asked. “The inability of your heart to accommodate any romantic relationship.” I stared at him, sighing. “Yes I did.” “But I am your mate.” He stated. “You still don't get it do you?” I stepped closer to him. “I'm terrified, I'm deathly afraid of getting into a relationship and ending up like Harry.” I swallowed hard, blinking back the tears. “F-for years after the m******e, I had nightmares, terrible f*****g nightmares of being happy and having you snatch it away from me so I decided not to. You took Harry away from me, you took my best friend away from me. My brain is hardwired to thar, I can't love someone even if I tried.” He was silent, his eyes intense and piercing. I wrapped my hands around my body feeling the need to shield myself and hating how vulnerable I felt. “If that's all, I would like to head to bed.” Without waiting for a reply, I continued on the stairs towards my room, exhausted beyond belief. ************** ************* *************** “You've been staring at me for the past 30 minutes, what's wrong?” I asked, not bothering to look up from my laptop. Delilah shifted on her feet, wringing her hands. “I…” “Out with it Delilah.” I ordered, turning to her. She let out a sigh before walking over and sitting next to me. “Can you please be nice to Prime on this trip?” I raised a brow at her. “Excuse me?” “I know you two have unresolved issues but please, this trip is your first as Alpha and Luna Prime, can you two just make it work?” She pleaded, her large doe eyes imploring. Eda damn this You don't owe her anything Adelaide Who does she think she is asking you to play Luna to that asshole?! “Fine, I’ll be nice.” She beamed at me “Only if he plays nice too.” “Oh Prime’s always nice.” She gushed, making me roll my eyes at her. A part of me felt bad for her knowing that by the end of this trip, Jacob would be no more. She admired him a lot. Oh well… she'll be fine. “So did he also get this talk or am I the problematic one?” I inquired. She bit her lip, looking away, her actions telling me what I needed to know. ************ ************ *********** I made my way downstairs, Delilah following behind, carrying my box. The sounds of argument reached us and I headed to the front door. “What's going on here?” I asked, glancing between an annoyed Tony and a man with blond hair. I could immediately tell the blonde haired man was a European Wolf. He turned to me, bowing deeply. “Greeting Prime, I am Neil Blair, your head of security. Magnus briefed us on your journey and it is our duty to escort our Prime.” He explained. “And I’m telling you that we have everything under control and we don't need you guys around.” Tony growled. “Last time I checked, I don't have to answer you or your Alpha Prime.” Neil retorted. “Alright, that's enough.” I ordered, glaring at them. “Apologies Prime.” Neil muttered. “Apologies Luna.” Tony muttered at the same time, each shooting the other a scowl. “How about this, we take some men from my security details and some from Jacob's?” I suggested. “But we have different security plans!!!” Tony protested. “I can't believe I am agreeing with this crètin…” Neil began. “Hey! What did you just call me?!” I closed my eyes, letting out a slow steady breath as I fought the urge to clobber them both. A warning growl escaped my lips making everybody around me, including them go quiet. “One more word from you two and I will not hesitate to throw you into whatever hellhole Jacob has here. Am I understood?!” I snapped. “Yes ma'am.” “Good, now you both will come up with a way to incorporate whatever security plan you have. I don't care how you do it but you will do it.” I ordered. “Yes Prime.” “Yes Luna.” “Excellent.” I replied. “Maybe I should include you in the meetings with my cabinet.” I rolled my eyes at the voice before turning to him, a fake smile on my lips. He was holding a black duffel bag. “Maybe you should.” I replied. Not like you're going to get a chance to. Tony collected my box from Delilah and placed it in the trunk together with Jacob's bag. “After you.” Jacob said, opening the back passenger door of the large SUV. I glanced at Delilah who had the pleading look in her eyes. Ugh, the things I do for the ones I care about… I froze. Do I actually care about Delilah? Surely not… she meant nothing to me… right? Ridding my head of the pesky thoughts, I got in, making myself comfortable. Jacob got in after me, closing the door behind him. He rolled down the window giving instructions to Tony before the car started to move. I opened my bag, about to bring out my laptop to read on the report I had tasked Magnus with regarding the missing wolves. “Ever the busy Alpha Prime aren't you?” “What can I say, I have nine years to catch up with.” I replied, cursing softly when a file fell out of my bag, the contents falling to floor of the car. Jacob being faster than me, reached down and picked some of the papers. “You're building a new factory in France?” “I don't see how that's any of your business.” I snapped, reaching for the papers but he moved them from my reach. His eyes perused through them, a look of rapt concentration on his face. “Will you give them back!!” I demanded. “This isn't cost effective in any way.” He stated, flipping to the next page. “3 billion pounds to build one chemical plant is insane. I know the economy's shitty and inflation is at an all time high but this is ridiculous.” I finally succeeded in snatching the papers from him. “I don't see how that's any of your bloody business.” I snarled, stuffing them back in the bag and zipping it up. I turned my attention to my laptop just for my phone to ring. It was Liam. “Morning Liam.” “Good morning Adelaide, how are you?” He inquired. “I'm well thank you for asking, currently heading out of town for tomorrow's event.” I answered. “Alright, so regarding the proposal for the chemical plant.” He began. “Yes?” I prompted. “They are definitely trying to rip you off. 3 billion pounds for one bloody chemical plant, it better never need maintenance for the next 15 years.” I could feel Jacob's eyes on me but I steadily ignored him, wishing I hadn't even answered Liam's call. “So what do you suggest?” I asked. “Permit me to make some calls and then present you with a more appropriate budget proposal.” “Alright then, thank you.” I ended the call, my eyes on my laptop yet I could feel his eyes on me. “What?!” I snapped, glaring at him. He smirked, shrugging. “Oh nothing.” I scowled, returning my attention to my laptop. I read through the report. … another family I interviewed, the Bricks Family stated their son and maternal grandfather also went missing however no cryptic messages were left behind. I pursed my lips, making notes. It was always an older wolf and a younger wolf, the older ones passing whatever information it is to the younger ones. I continued reading the report, there were about six families who also made mention of the cryptic messages while the rest he had interviewed had mentioned nothing of such. I nibbled on my lower lip, wondering just how I was going to solve this, it felt as if I was going round and round in circles. Sighing, I rested my head against the window, watching the road, my mind miles away. ************** ************ ******************* By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was late in the night. I followed Jacob in, the woman at the front desk immediately stood, smiling at us. "Welcome back Mr Mont Blanc." I could immediately tell she was human. "Thank you." She handed him the key card. "Enjoy your stay at The Meridian." We took the elevator up to the ninth floor. We walked in silence to the room and I watched him unlock the door. "Ladies first." I brushed past him and walked into the room... Only it wasn't a room, it was a freaking apartment with a sunken living room, a kitchen to one side and beautiful views of the skyline. The door opened once more and Neil walked in, carrying Jacob and I's luggage. "Where should I take this?" He inquired. "That room over there." Jacob replied, pointing at a door. I frowned. "Wait... what? How many bedrooms are here?" I inquired, turning to Jacob who had the biggest smirk on his lips. "Just one pet, looks like you and I are sharing.” I wrinkled my nose at him before turning to Neil. “Just leave my bag out here, I'll get another room” Jacob stepped forward. “No you're not. Take her bag into the room.” He ordered. I raised a brow, shooting him a glare before turning to Neil. “You will not take the bag into the room.” I stated. “Infact, please go down to the reception and request a room on my behalf.” Neil bowed about to leave when he stiffened. I watched as he grabbed the bag and robotically walked into the room and placed the bag on the bed. He came out and faced Jacob. “Do you need anything else?” “No, you can leave.” Jacob replied, he bowed and left. Disbelief and anger coursed through me. “What the hell is your problem?! You can't use your mind-control nonsense on my people!!!” I growled. He smiled, folding his arms. “And who’s going to stop me?” My glare intensified and I wished there was a way I could strangle him. “Fine, I’ll sleep in the bedroom but you will stay out here on the couch.” I snapped, marching to the bedroom about to slam the door shut when he put his foot on the doorway. “And why should I sleep on a couch when there is a spacious comfortable bed available?” He inquired, brushing past me. “Fine, I'll sleep on the couch then.” I snapped when he grabbed my arm. “Scared you won't be able to resist me?” He whispered. I wrinkled my nose at him, sneering. “For there me to be unable to resist you then there has to be something irresistible which from where I am standing is not the case.” I retorted, wrenching my arm from his grasp. “In that case then prove me wrong and spend the night in bed with me.” I scowled at me “You better stay on your side of the bed.” Without waiting for a reply, I grab my bag and storm to the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. Bastard!!!
