Chapter Twenty Nine

"It’s just a bed Adelaide and you two are both mature lycans." I muttered, staring at my reflection in the mirror. It was 11:00pm and we had an early day the next day. Sighing, I got ready for bed, shrugging on a silver lace slip with silk details. I stepped into the room, Jacob was still dressed, his eyes glued to his laptop screen. I still didn't understand why he insisted on doing whatever he was doing in the bedroom. I walked past him, out of the bedroom to the living room and gathered several throw pillows. I made my way back into the room, arranging them in a straight line down the middle of the bed. “Other precautions to stop yourself from groping me while I sleep?” I turned, a sneer on my face before walking over to him and placing my hands on my hips. “Grope you? Oh please, you can still be the last wolf on this Earth and I would still not come close to you.” I snapped. A gasp escaped my lips as within a few seconds, he placed the laptop aside and pulled me into his lap, his arm around my waist. I crashed into his chest, finding my bearings before glaring up at him. His eyes were a deep maroon that seemed to draw me in. He cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing against my bottom lip, a strangled moan left my lips. “You were saying?” I stumbled out of his arms, folding my arms across my chest. “What did I say about using your power against me?!” He raised a brow, getting to his feet. “I wasn't, Adelaide, that was all you. But it's nice to know how your body reacts to me.” With that, he grabbed his bag and headed into the bathroom. Oh Eda damn him to hell!!! I got into bed, pulling the blanket to my side before laying down. Let the bastard freeze, he'd be embracing the cold arms of death very soon. I smirked before drifting off. JACOB I walked out of the bathroom, she had taken the left side of the bed and was curled up, from her heartbeat and breathing I could tell she had already fallen asleep. I flicked off the lights and made my way over to the bed, carefully getting in not wanting to wake her up. I stared at her over the large pillows as she slept peacefully. My mate… Glancing at her one last time, I continued working on my laptop when the blanket she had hogged was thrown over to my side. What the… I turned to her, she was spreadeagled on her side of the bed, her right leg and arm resting on the throw pillows. Her lips were slightly parted, her soft snores filling the room. I raised a brow at that, a soft smile creeping onto my lips. I placed my laptop aside to cover her with the blanket when she rolled over to my side. Well… She nuzzled, a sigh escaping her lips as she got comfortable, one of her leg pressed tightly against mine while the other was in between my legs, her head resting on my shoulder, arms wrapped tightly around mine. I stared down at her, amused, if only she knew she had rolled over to my side of the bed and was currently using my shoulder as a pillow. Knowing her she would raise hell before finding a way to put the blame on me. I raised a finger and gently brushed her hair to the side, watching her sleep. Her bow shaped lips slightly parted. Not wanting to disrupt her sleep, I closed my laptop with my free hand and carefully adjusted myself so I was fully lying on the bed. I flicked off the bedside lamp and arranged the blanket over us. Just as I was about to doze off, I felt her fingers dig into my skin, blunt nails turning into sharp claws. I glanced at her, my eyes immediately adjusting to the darkness so I could see her as clear as day, her eyebrows were knitted, a look of distress on her face. "No..." She mumbled. I cupped her face, she whined, her breathing ragged. “No… p-please” I could sense the fear in her voice, it clung to her scent and I hated it. "Hey... it's fine, you're okay." I whispered, stroking her soft skin. "You're safe" I knew about her nightmares and how they plagued her every night. Hell they kept me awake most nights just as they did her. "It's okay, you're safe, I promise." I soothed her gently, running my fingers through her hair. After what seemed like ages, she settled, her claws retracting from my skin and morphing back into nails. Once I was sure she had fully fallen back to sleep, I let myself drift off, not that I ever needed much sleep to begin with. ************* *************** ****************** ADELAIDE I woke up, looking around and for a second I wondered where I was before everything came back to me. A groan escaped my lips and I flopped back onto the bed, stiffening when I realised I wasn't on my side of the bed. I immediately sat up just as the bathroom door opened and a wet, half naked Jacob walked into the room. Oh Eda... His toned chest and abdomen was on full display, beads of water rolling down the crevices of his muscles down to his v cut abs before disappearing into the towel that was wrapped low around his waist. "See something you like, pet?" I glared at him, wishing to make the smug smile on his lips disappear. I shot him a fake smile. "If only you were covered in your blood with your head on a spike." I replied, getting out of bed. "Cute" My smile turned into a frown and my glare was back. I walked past him, knocking my shoulder into his arm in the process only for him to grab and push me to the nearest wall, his hands pinning my wrists to the wall. "Is that any way to greet your Alpha and mate, pet?" He asked softly. "Go to hell" I snarled "and get the f**k off me!!!" He pressed himself closer to me, until I could feel the dampness of his body seep through my silk shift onto my skin. "That wasn't what you were saying last night..." He trailed off making me freeze. "No that's not right, your mouth says something but your body does something different... makes me wonder who I should actually listen to?" "I was asleep, I had no control of my body you sick fuck." I snarled. His eyes flashed red and he leaned closer. "Oh I know pet, that's the only reason why you don't have my mark on your neck but keep pushing me and I may just stop being a gentleman and act like the sick f**k you claim me to be." He whispered before releasing my hands and stepping back. I rubbed my wrists to get the circulation back in them. "Get ready, we leave in an hour." He instructed, making his way out of the room. I glared at his retreating back. Asshole... I let out a breath, letting the anger go, everything would end today. Jacob Mont Blanc would be no more in a few hours and I would finally get my revenge. With that set in my mind, I had a shower and riffled through my bag for what Delilah had packed for me. It was a white silk blouse with a lapel neckline. I shrugged it on, doing up the buttons before pulling up the black pencil skirt with the chain detail at the front. I zipped it up, admiring myself in the mirror. Nice choice Delilah... I did my makeup and headed out of the bathroom to the room, I slipped on my heels and grabbed my bag. I made my way out of the room to the living room where Jacob was having breakfast, Tony and Neil present. "Good morning Prime." Neil greeted, pulling out my chair. "Good morning Luna." Tony greeted. "Good morning Neil, Tony." I replied, making myself a cup of tea. My phone beeped and I picked it up, staring at the screen. It was a message from Nanook. We are ready for today. I stared at the text, glancing at Jacob who was concentrating on his food. Excellent, I'll let you know when we leave. I texted back. I tucked my phone back into my bag and took a sip of my tea before making myself a plate of eggs and toast. Breakfast was a silent affair and a few minutes later, we were in the car heading to the venue. "This is our first official outing as Alpha and Luna." Jacob began. "Really? I didn't notice." I replied, scoffing. "I trust you will be on your best behaviour." He continued, ignoring me. If only you knew... I turned to him wanting to give him a scathing reply instead I shot him the fakest smile I could muster. "Would you like me to look at you like you hung the stars and the moon in the sky?" I inquired. He leaned closer, making my eyes widen. He raised a finger and tucked my hair behind my ear and trailing the finger along my jaw, stopping at my chin. I tried to move away but found myself unable to. “No, just look at me the way you are right now, eyes wide, fighting the attraction that you feel for me.” He whispered, his eyes dark with desire. His other hand moved to my exposed knees, slowly dragging the skirt up my thighs, his hand lighting a fire underneath my skin. “The things I want to do to you Adelaide, it would make the goddess of lust and desire blush like a bride on her wedding day.” I felt the heat rise within me at his words, the car suddenly felt too small and my clothes felt too tight. “We're here.” Tony's voice snapped me out of whatever spell I was under, I could see several people gathered around the car, waiting for us. “Ready?” Jacob inquired. I forced a smile still disoriented from his words and touches. “Y-yeah” He gave me a one over before opening the door and getting out. I followed suit, letting him help me out of the car, a practiced smile on my lips as both our security team led us through the crowd. They called his name, several werewolves offering flowers and small gifts, some of the werewolves smiled at me, but most of them seemed to glare at me, I could feel their disdain for me. Yeah, well I'm also not a fan of any of you. We got up to the stage and I stood beside him as he prepared to make his speech. I glanced at my watch wondering what time the shot would take place. A part of me hoped Adlartok had not backtracked on our agreement last minute because he would be the next person I killed after ending Jacob's life. Jacob began his speech, his voice commanding everyone's attention, I watched as he spoke, the way he carried himself, how empowering his words were, I stared at the crowd, each one of them hung to his every word, it was clear they loved and adored him. My thoughts were disrupted by a slight change in the air and then three bullets sailed in the direction of Jacob, my lips parted as I waited for them to pierce his flesh instead he moved at an unnatural speed, dodging the first two. I let out a gasp as I was tackled to the floor by someone. The smell of blood filled my nose and for a second I thought I had been hit only for me to turn my head sideways... Oh no... One of Jacob's security details had been hit. The crowd burst into pandemonium with wolves running helter skelter trying to escape. Several fully armed men appeared, taking charge of the crowd yet the only thing I could concentrate on was the man lying in the pool of his own blood, lifeless eyes staring in my direction. I was forced onto my feet and literally carried me off the stage to the nearest building. My eyes were still on the dead man, unable to look away. Tony guided me to a chair and I sat, my entire body shaking. "Luna, are you okay? Are you hurt?" He asked. "I-I…” my voice shook, the dead man's eyes stuck in my head. The doors swung open, slamming against their hinges, an enraged Jacob storming in. "WHAT THE f**k JUST HAPPENED?!" He demanded, I jumped startled. "I thought you had this place secured?!" "We did Prime..." Tony began. "Well you clearly didn't because someone f*****g slipped through. I want him found and bring him to me alive!" He snarled. I glanced at him realising I had never seen him so furious. His eyes were a deep red colour, they actually seemed to be glowing, his skin had taken a pale pallor. "You heard our Alpha Prime, get to it." Tony snapped, Jacob growl echoed, making the glass rattle as he paced around. I felt a large coat placed over me, I looked up to see Jacob standing in front of me, a concerned look on his face. “Adelaide, are you okay? You're shaking.” My lips parted but no words came out. I couldn't get the sight of that dead man who was probably still lying in a pool of his own blood. He turned to one of the men. “Get me a car, I want the Luna Prime out of here.” He instructed. I was still trembling, the metallic scent of blood clung to me. “Hey… look at me.” Jacob whispered, cupping my face and forcing me to stare at him. “Everything will be fine. I'm going to find the fucker who dared carry out this attack and they will pay.” His warning sent shivers down my spine, knowing that I was involved. “Prime, the car's here.” He stood, helping me up. “I want the entire security team to escort her back to Yellowstone. No stops, break every f*****g speed limit there is, run every traffic light if you need to but I want my Luna back in my territory.” He ordered, tucking me into his side as he walked us out of the building to the car. There were two other armoured trucks parked with the Escalade in the middle. He opened the door to the Escalade and helped me in. “I'll be back before you know it.” He closed the door and signalled to the driver. The convoy began moving, my fingers shook as we pulled away from the square. I had killed a man… An innocent man… snuffed his life. The thought churned my stomach, I closed my eyes, leaning back into the seat, my breathing ragged. He was lying there, eyes devoid of life, blood and brain matter pouring out of the hole in the side of his head. I fought the nausea. “Stop the car,” I whispered, feeling beads of sweat rolling down my neck. “I’m sorry Luna Prime but Prime gave us…” the security officer began. I opened the door of the speeding car and emptied the contents of my stomach, the force causing some to splash back onto me but that was the least of my worries as I continued to throw up. The car came to a stop as I retched, I heard footsteps fast approaching and a hand moving my hair away from my face. “Prime, are you okay?” I shuddered, my body weak. “W-wa-ter” A bottle appeared within my line of sight and I took it, my grip shaking slightly. I rinsed my mouth and cleaned the vomit off my clothes before leaning back into the car. “Are you ready for us to continue Prime?” Neil inquired. I nodded, letting out a shaky breath and clutching onto Jacob's jacket, his woodsy scent calming me. “Yes.” He closed the door, signalling to the convoy that we were about to move. The rest of the journey back to Yellowstone was filled with heavy silence, the guilt weighing down on me like a dark cloud, oppressive and unyielding. The moment the car came to a stop in front of Jacob's cottage, I hopped out, rushing in, taking the stairs two at a time until I got to my room. I slammed the door shut. My hands shaking as I brought out my phone, dialling the number of the only person I knew could help me at this point. “Adelaide?” “Liam…” my voice broke. “I-I need you here, please come.”
