Young Hailey

2011 Words
Gabriel's POV I look at the young girl sitting on the steps with her only friends Wilfred and Macy. I think back over the years as I see her laugh. It is good to see her laugh as that does not happen often. Since the day I took little Hailey away from her mother, who hated her from the first day she saw her, Hailey only knew hell on earth. I have my hands full to keep her calm, but children are cruel, and a mother with no love for her child is ever crueler. My mind goes back to the day I took the crying baby and had to give her formula as her mother had no interest in loving her leave alone breastfeeding her. Since that day, she stayed with me in the north wing of the school's dorm. I have a lot of money, and I bought that part of the school as I wanted to protect Hailey. Not only from her father but also from the cruelty of her mother. Hailey grew up fast, and when she was three, she could already shift as she was not like other wolves. I told her to keep it a secret between the two of us and that I would take her out at night to run. One day as Hailey came from the preschool classes, I found her sitting on the steps of the north wing. She was staring at Melissa playing with the other kids her age. Tears were flowing down her cheeks as she sat there, not making a sound as if she did not want the other children to hear her cry. I went to sit next to her and ask her what was wrong. My mind goes back to our conversation as if I am there. *Flashback* "Melissa is my mother?" She asks. I always believed in not lying to Hailey. She knows I am not her real father but her uncle. "Why does she hate me, Daddy?" Hailey asks. She always called me daddy. "Who says she hates you?" I ask. "I wanted to go play with them, but she said she does not play with monsters. Am I a monster, Daddy?" Hailey asked me. "No, my lovely Hailey, you are my princess," I answer. "Then why don't my mother and father don't want me?" She asks. "Because they are the monsters and not you. They do not know what they are missing. You are the greatest person on earth, and you have a heart of gold, my little princess. Emilia and I love you more than anything on this planet," I say as I pick her up on my lap and hold her close to my chest. Melissa looks up and smiles at me. I take Hailey and turn my back on her as I walk with the little crying girl to the privacy of our dorm. f**k Melissa. I do not want her not after what she has done to her little girl.  *End of flashback* One day as I was busy, I came back to the dorm and heard yelling and screaming in Hailey's room. I ran to her room to see Melissa standing in Hailey's room, shouting at her and Hailey looking at her with so much hate in her eyes I was afraid she would kill Melissa. Hailey was about eight years old. "What is this?" Melissa shouted at Hailey, grabbing her hair and pressing her face into a sculpture Hailey finished. I have learned that when Hailey is upset to let her stay in her room and do art. She has been good at painting and sculpture from a very young age. My brother Marcus is also good at art. It is the only thing that keeps Hailey calm when she is upset and keeps her wolf from coming out. I looked at the sculpture and saw the face of my brother. "What are you doing here, Melissa?" I asked her, and she turned around to look at me. "Look at this freak! She made a sculpture of your brother. How does she know him? I am telling you, this girl you call Hailey is just like her father, a monster! One day she will kill all of us, and it will be your fault for letting her stay here. If we just give her to Marcus, he will leave us alone! He wants her dead more than anything on this earth," Melissa shouted at me. I grabbed Hailey just in time as her fangs and claws were beginning to show, and she was about to rip Melissa's throat out. "Look at me, princess, do not listen to her. I love you, and no one will ever take you away from me," I said, and before Melissa could turn around, Hailey was calm, and she luckily did not see Hailey's wolf side. "I am sorry, daddy, "Hailey cried. "No, baby, now you know what he looks like. Promise me one thing if you ever see that man, you will run away from him as fast as you can," I assured her. "You always protect your brother's monster of a daughter," Melissa said. I could not believe that the same monster of a mother is the same Melissa that can be so soft and caring to other children. "She is your daughter too. Just remember that, Melissa. Get out! Never let me catch you near Hailey again," I shouted at Melissa, and she looked at me sadly. I knew she had feelings for me, and there was a time I was in love with her as well, but it all changed when she rejected Hailey and called her a freak and a monster. I know deep down somewhere I still hope that one day she will accept her child and treat her the way a mother should, as I knew I still had feelings for the woman that gave birth to Hailey. I remember another day when Emilia call me and to come and help her. The children have made fun of Hailey, and she attacked one of them. The child will heal as a werewolf, but Melissa and a few of the other teachers have caught Hailey and took her to the dungeon. They have secured her in chains with silver cuffs around her arms. As I walked in, I was furious. I grabbed the first teacher by his neck and snapped it like a twig. The rest made ran off as I made my way to a crying, scared thirteen years old girl. She did not understand why she was cuffed to a wall in a dungeon. Melissa was standing in my way, and I pushed her aside as I walked to Hailey and broke the chains from her hands. "She is a monster. She hurt that boy, and her fangs and claws came out. Her eyes were yellow. She is a monster, Gabriel," Melissa said. "Did you try to calm her, or did you scream at her again," I asked. My eyes were cold, and I was about to kill all those who helped Melissa treat my daughter like this.  "How could I have calmed her? She was out of control!" Melissa shouts again. "By giving her love and reassurance that everything will be okay. She is not a monster. She is a little girl being bullied, not only by the children but also by her mother and the other teacher," Emilia said as she looked at all the teachers who looked down in shame. "Hailey is only thirteen, and all she ever got from all of you was bullying, and you all call her names. She is my daughter. I am an original vampire. Why don't you call me a freak and a monster?" I asked. "This stops today," Emilia said, and she called all the students and teachers to the assembly. "I hope all of you are happy with yourselves today. But, unfortunately, you have humiliated a student, and I will not let that happen in my school again. If anyone of you ever calls Hailey names or humiliate her again, you will either be expelled or fired, and that includes you, Melissa. If you do not want to be friends with Hailey, leave her alone and do not come crying if you get hurt when you tease her or hurt her," Emilia said. She was like the mother Hailey never had and always stood up for Hailey. Hailey grew up with no significant issues and turned from the school freak into the most beautiful girl in school. She became popular among the boys, especially Liam that is the leader of the werewolves in school. I can not say I am happy with him. Melissa began to show interest in Hailey as she was a beautiful girl, and I even heard her brag about her beautiful daughter once. Hailey, on the other hand, did not trust her mother and stayed away from her. Wilfred and Macy were the only friends Hailey had since she was small, and they would always try to protect her and keep her away from the bullies. I love that through all those years of her taking a lot of abuse. They were always there for her. Little did I know the three of them had plans to sneak out that day as it was a day off from school to go and watch a movie. I only caught them sneaking back from town, and I shouted at them as I was so afraid of what could have happened to Hailey if Mikael or Marcus picked up on her scent. Even Melissa was worried, and for the first time, I saw the protective mother in her come out. Mikael's POV. I am still looking for that damn hybrid or her uncle. It has been years, and Marcus is getting angry at me for not finding her, the she-wolf, or Gabriel. I need a break. I had Marcus compel many vampires to look for her, and as they have his blood in their systems, they will know as soon as they see any one of them. I am sitting in my office when one of my minions comes running in. He looks like he ran a long way. "What?" I ask as I look up and saw him. "I found her!" He shouts. "Found who?" I ask, a bit irritated. My very best spies have daylight rings, like the original vampire, as they are expensive and hard to come by. "The girl. Marcus' daughter. I saw her in a town called Greenfield. So I ran straight here to tell you," He says, and I smile. "Good job," I say as I look at him and his daylight ring. I know why he is one of my best spies as I travel to places no one will ever think to look. I get a map out of Greenfield and see nothing extraordinary around there. "I followed her to see where she was going, and she went into a school, and I could not enter the schoolyard as I could feel a magical spell around the school and as soon as she and her two friends entered the schoolyard again, I could no longer feel her presence," The vampire says. "Hmm, so that is why we could not find her for all these years, I bet her mommy dearest and Gabriel is also there," I say. I think of a plan to get into the school without being noticed, but I know those witches will not allow just anyone into the school. So it will have to be a student. Someone young innocent and that have is a werewolf, vampire, or witch. I can not trust Vampires as Gabriel can easily compel them, witches can also be compelled, but werewolves can not. I smile as I think of the perfect young werewolf. Someone I knew would come in handy one day. It is time to send my secret weapon on his first mission.
