Training Time

Third-person POV

Cole enters the gym and heads to the boy's lockers to get dressed in his training clothes. All the other werewolves are already busy with training. Some are playing dodge ball to improve their reflexes, and others are wrestling to enhance their strength others are using the climbing wall. Cole sees James and heads towards him. Liam is glaring at Cole.

"Who the hell does this new kid think he is, late for class on his first day. The arrogance! I can see him looking at Hailey a lot. I hope for his sake he stops that quickly; otherwise, he will get hurt soon. He should know that I am the strongest here and will be the alpha soon and that Hailey will be mine. Maybe I should just show him where his place is around here. He is quite a large and strongly built guy, so I must break him before he gets too confident. He could pose a threat to my alpha position if I don't act soon. The quicker I dominate him, the better," Liam thinks.

"Hey, new kid, get over here!" Liam calls out to Cole

"As I'm in charge around here, I think we should start you with some strength exercises, and since you are new, I think you should have the honor to wrestle me," Liam says to Cole.

"I really think I should rather start with something more manageable. Maybe I can just go play dodge ball or climb the wall?' Cole answers as he is trying to avoid confrontation with Liam.

"That was not a request, new kid. That was an instruction, so get your ass on the wrestling mat and get ready to wrestle me." Liam says to Cole.

Everybody gathers around as Liam is undefeated in wrestling and always puts on a good show using his master skills. Cole feels a lot of pressure as he also wrestled at the hunter's academy and was the best there. He, too, was undefeated at the academy. He knows it won't be easy to take on Liam as Liam is becoming alpha and stronger than your average werewolf. But Cole knows even if he is not such a strong werewolf as Liam, his training as a hunter should be even out the field as the hunter training gave him extra strength. So they both get onto the wrestling mat and start to wrestle with each other. Liam grabs Cole around the waist and tries to throw him over, but he struggles as he can feel Cole is powerful and not as easy to throw around as his usual opponents. Cole suddenly reverses Liam's move and throws Liam right off the mat. Everyone standing around is silenced by amazement. Nobody ever managed to throw Liam like that. Liam gets up and looks at Cole in anger.

"How the hell did you do that?" Liam says to Cole in shock.

"First-time luck, I suppose?" Cole replies.

"Never mind, you will feel the extent of my true power now. Remember the first one to surrender losses." Liam says to Cole

They lock up again on the wrestling mat. This time Liam grabs Cole from the side and throws him off the mat.

"Seems like it was indeed only beginners luck, new kid, well I must give it to you, nobody has ever made it as far as you did, but I think it's time we end this now, so get ready to submit soon," Liam says to Cole.

Cole just stays quiet, and the two lock up again on the wrestling mat. Liam tries to grab Cole, but Cole is too fast. He moves around Liam and puts him into a chokehold from behind. Cole knows he's got, Liam. Everybody looks in silent amazement, and Cole can see Hailey looking as well.

"I cannot risk blowing my cover. People will know something is up if I defeat the alpha on my first day of school. I will have to lose to Liam, although it would have been so good to have kicked his ass." Cole thinks to himself.

Cole purposely loosens his grip a bit, and Liam can get free from the chokehold. He throws Cole against the mat and puts him into an arm hold. Cole taps out, and Liam gets up, celebrating with his friends. Everyone cheers for Liam as Cole still lies on the mat, knowing he should have been the victor.

"You see, new kid, that's why I'm in charge around here, but since you tried so hard, I feel it's only fair to reward you. I think you should be the one to clean up all equipment after class, don't you think so too, guys?" Liam says to Cole, laughing with his friends.

Cole gets up and walks away, but Liam doesn't leave it there, thinking he now has Cole down.

"I didn't hear a yes, sir, did I?" Liam says to Cole

Cole just keeps on walking away and makes as if he didn't even hear Liam.

"Didn't you hear what I just said!" Liam says, angered, and pushes Cole to the ground.

Cole falls to the ground, and everyone starts laughing. He can feel his hands shaking in anger, and he even feels the wolf inside him is also beginning to get mad. He knows that he can knock out Liam easily, but he starts to calm himself down, and his rage disappears.

"Just stay calm Cole, you cannot blow your cover. This is all part of the mission, and I am not going to let something as small as this get in my way," Cole thinks to himself.

Cole gets up and turns to Liam.

"I'm sorry. Yes, sir, I will clean up when the class is over." Cole says to Liam.

"You see, the new kid that was not so hard now, was it? I'm glad to see you finally know your place around here. Your little friend James the mutt over there can help you clean up before he gets stuck in a locker again," Liam says to Cole and walks away laughing.

Class is finished for the day, and everyone leaves the gym. As Hailey walks past Cole, she stops for a short while and turns to Cole.

"Don't worry, new kid, and things will get better in time. You will get used to this school," Hailey says to Cole and leaves the gym.

Only Cole and James are left putting all the equipment away and cleaning up the gym.

"Don't talk to Hailey, or do you want a beating from Liam again?" James says to Cole

"I did not talk to her. She talked to me." Cole replies.

"I told you to stay clear of Liam. You should have just submitted immediately and not try to put up a fight. No one dares to challenge Liam." James says to Cole.

"Then it wouldn't have been a true match, now would it," Cole replies.

"You are quite brave, I will give you that, but if I'm you, I won't take any more chances with Liam. Best to just stay out of his way, believe me." James says to Cole.

"Well, at least we are done tidying up. Let's get cleaned up and dressed for dinner. We will have to hurry. It starts in thirty minutes." James says to Cole.

The two boys rush to their rooms, takes a quick shower, get dressed, and head downstairs to the dining hall. As they head towards their table, they hear everyone talking about how Cole got his ass whipped by Liam earlier. Especially from the witches' side as they made sure the story got around the whole school. As they sit down, Cole can feel all eyes are fixed on them again.

"Looks like you are the talk of the school," James says to Cole.

"It is not even such a big deal. Why is everyone so obsessed with something as petty as this." Cole replies.

"Well, around here, every small detail is news. It is not a big school, and there is not much action around here, so every little thing that is not normal is talked about here. They are still talking about the time Liam and his stupid friends put me headfirst into the large dust bin in the hallway." James says to Cole.

"Well, maybe just one day, someone will challenge Liam and put him in his place," Cole says with a little smile on his face.

"I hope so too, but I doubt it will ever happen. I can't see anyone challenging Liam soon," James replies.

Emilia comes into the dining hall to get dinner and makes a quick stop at Cole and James' table before going to the cafeteria.

"Ah, the two subjects of about almost all the gossip in school. I can't believe they still talk about your dust bin incident James and you, Cole? I heard you got a little lesson from the alpha wolf today?" Emilia says to Cole and James.

"Well, it wasn't my fault ma'am, I just minded my own business, but then Liam forced me to wrestle him, and well, I guess you heard the rest of the story," Cole replies.

"Well, Liam wouldn't have done what he has done if he didn't feel threatened by you, Cole. I can see you have a strong spirit, you just have to keep going and don't lose hope, and the both of you don't let people intimidate you so quickly. You both are much stronger than you think." Emilia says to them and walks away.

The two boys go to their usual spot at the back of the cafeteria line to get their dinner and return to the table after they get their meals. They sit down and finish their meals. After dinner, all students are excused, and they all retire back to their rooms for the night.

"Well, see you, tomorrow buddy. Let us hope it will be a better one," James says to Cole before leaving for his room.

"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow James," Cole replies and leaves toward his room.

Cole gets inside his room, switches off the lights, and lies down on his back on his bed.

Cole's POV

I could have taken that i***t today, I had him in my famous chokehold, and would I have held on, he surely would have submitted to me. And then he pushed me down as well! If only he knew I had a silver sword that I had hidden in the bushes just before I got to the school gates and how easily I could kill him with that! But that's just fine, and I have to concentrate on my mission. I was sent here for a reason, and I have to stick to it! At least Hailey talked to me today. I will eventually have to get her friendship and trust, but for now, that is impossible as I am still too new here, and everyone is watching my every move. So I must just give it some time. I must not get impatient and blow any chance of completing my mission. The only way I will get Hailey out of this school is if she trusts me. Brute force will not do as even I am not so brave to take on a hybrid alone. I just have to be clever about this and play the waiting game. Even if it takes a year or two, I know Mikael will understand as he is the one that told me always to be patient and not to rush a mission as you can compromise it that way. I will find a way to befriend her. Although Liam will be a huge factor, I will succeed eventually. Well, today has been an eventful one, so let me get to sleep and just get this day over with. Tomorrow, I have things to do, and I don't need to lose my temper as I know I am stronger than Liam and may hurt him.
