To Tame The Beast Inside

2120 Words
Cole's POV I struggle to fall asleep as I keep thinking of the werewolves here and how they need to be locked up at the full moon as they are still young and can't control the wolves inside themselves. I saw it today when I wrestled Liam and how the wolf took over in him when he got angry at me. As I lay there thinking, I remember when I was still a very young wolf at Hunter's academy. I remember how Mikael taught me to control my wolf as he knew I could shred any of the young hunters apart if angered enough. It was not easy for Mikael as I was the first wolf he had ever trained to control himself. I remember in the beginning, Mikael also had to lock me up at the full moon as I had no control over my wolf and had no choice in whether I wanted to turn or not. He would stay with me right through the night just to make sure I didn't get out somehow and maybe attack a fellow student. I know I had that incident once on the full moon, but at least Mikael never gave up on me and continued until I could control my wolf at the full moon as well. Third-person POV Mikael knew Cole was going to be a great asset for him and the hunter's academy. But he knew he would have to train Cole hard and knew one of the biggest challenges was teaching Cole to control the beast inside himself. Even as a youngster, he could see that the wolf wanted to get out every time Cole started to get mad. His eyes will turn yellow, and his fangs will begin to grow. He will also see Cole's nails starting to grow, and he will begin to make a deep growling noise. Mikael will stop the sparring and rush to little Cole, calming him down and easing the young boy. He will see Cole's eyes turn to their normal greenish color, and his fangs and nails will start to drawback. It especially was hard the first time it happened as young Cole didn't know what was going on and just felt this wild strength and ferociousness inside him trying to crawl through his skin. Mikael had to use a tranquilizer arrow to sedate the young boy and the animal inside him. As time went on, Mikael found it easier to calm the young Cole every time he lost control. He knew the young boy eventually would start controlling the wolf inside by himself. The hardest part was just the full moons. That is the most dangerous time for any young or inexperienced werewolf. The full moon makes the wolf inside much stronger, and the wolf eventually takes over and is in control. It takes a real experienced, iron-willed, and well-trained werewolf to learn to control his wolf during a full moon, as you need more willpower than ever to stay in control of the wolf. Mikael knew Cole was getting better at controlling his wolf by getting angered but still had to keep the boy locked up during the full moons as this part the boy has not mastered yet. Mikael always kept guard over Cole himself during the full moon, but one night he asked one of his other hunters to keep an eye over young Cole while locked up as he had to attend an elder Hunter's meeting in a few towns away and had already left early in the morning. As instructed, the hunter took young Cole to the wine cellar, where a cage with chains was waiting for him. The hunter was given clear instructions by Mikael to lock Cole up at precisely six o clock in the afternoon and only unlock the boy at seven the following day. As the hunter saw a few of his friends sitting at a table outside the pub having a few drinks and knowing he had a long night of guarding ahead of him, he told young Cole to go to the cellar in the meanwhile as he thought to himself he might as well just have a few drinks and then go lock up the boy. He thought everything would be fine and that the boy could just wait for him in the cellar for a short time while he had a drink or two. The guard, already finished with his fourth drink, suddenly remembers Cole as he had such a good time with his friends that he lost track of time. "What is the time now, guys?' The guard asks his friends. "It's half-past seven." They reply. "Oh s**t, I have to go. Luckily I still have about thirty minutes before the boy will turn." The guard thinks to himself and rushes off towards the wine cellar. Unknown to the guard, if a werewolf starts to feel anxious or nervous, its transformation can be triggered earlier. While Cole was waiting for the guard and waiting such a long time for the guard, he started to get anxious. He could feel the wolf coming out and started to lose control over it. As the guard comes down the cellar stairs, he can see Cole sitting in front of the open cage, his eyes all yellow and his fangs and claws starting to come out. The guard tries to grab Cole by the arm and put the chained cuffs on him, but it's too late. Cole has already turned. The guard tries to call for help, but before he can even get a word out, the young wolf rips his throat out, and the guard is killed instantly. The young wolf runs up the stairs and heads out of the academy's grounds towards the local village. One of the guard's friends, about eight drinks in by now, went to the side of the pub to urinate and caught a fast glimpse of a wolf-like figure running into the woods towards the village's side in the far distance. "Wow, guys, I swear I just saw the biggest f*****g dog in my life close to the woods." The drunken friend says to the other once he returns to their table. "Oh Steve, you always see things when you are drunk, just have another drink and stop talking nonsense, man." The Other friends reply. Unknowing to them, their friend lies dead in the wine cellar, and there is a wild werewolf out there heading towards the village. Early the next morning, Mikael returns and immediately goes to check on Cole. He finds the guard with his throat ripped dead on the ground and an empty cage. Angered by this, he calls some of the other hunters, including the guard's friends, and asks them what has happened. One of the friends of the guard tells Mikael that the guard had a few drinks with them the night before and then suddenly rushed off in a hurry and that he only told them he had guarding duty. They told Mikael they had no idea it was Cole he was supposed to guard. Steve, the one hunter, told Mikael he saw a dog-like creature near the woods heading towards the local village. As Mikael prepares to go and search for Cole, the boy suddenly appears out of the woods next to the academy, naked and all covered in blood. Mikael rushes to him. "Are you okay, boy? What happened? Who's blood is this?" Mikael asks Cole "I don't know, father, the last thing I remember was waiting for the guard in the wine cellar," Cole replies, crying. "Stop your crying, boy. You are not a baby anymore. We just need to find out what happened last night, but first, let us just get you cleaned up and dressed." Mikael says to Cole in anger. As Mikael is waiting for Cole to clean up and get dressed, he is suddenly called by one of the students there. "Sir, there is a man from the local village here to see you." The student says to Mikael "Tell him I will be right there," Mikael replies. "I wonder what the man has to say. It must surely have something to do with the events of yesterday night. I just hope nobody recognized or identified Cole. No one outside of this academy knows he is a werewolf. That fool of a guard, how could he let this happen and let Cole get out. If he weren't dead already, I would have killed him myself. Well, let me go and find out what this villager has to say." Mikael thinks to himself and goes downstairs. As Mikael arrives downstairs, he is anxiously met by the man from the village sitting at the kitchen table. The man jumps up from the table, his eyes filled with tears. "Mikael, I'm so glad you are here. A terrible thing happened to our village last night. A werewolf attacked our livestock and killed many of our cows and sheep. Mr. Davies heard the commotion and went outside to investigate but only managed to see the werewolf running off in the distance. Unfortunately, many others lost some of their livestock as well." The man says to Mikael. "And you are sure it's a werewolf? Was any human killed?" Mikael replies "I am sure it's a werewolf. Many other people saw the beast killing their animals but were too afraid to go outside their homes. Luckily no human was killed" The man answers Mikael. "No one managed to get a glimpse of the werewolf's human form the next morning perhaps?" Mikael asks the man "No Mikael, everyone only got out of their homes after the sun was well set. So nobody knows who this werewolf can be." The man replies. Mikael is relieved that Cole's identity was not discovered and that he didn't kill any of the villagers, but he keeps a straight and serious face as he further addresses the man from the village. "It must be a rogue werewolf as we have not had a werewolf attack in centuries here. I will get onto it immediately. You will soon have the head of the rogue werewolf responsible for the killing of your livestock." Mikael says to the man. "Thank you, Mikael. I know we will have that beast's head soon. We will await your arrival with its head." The man replies and heads back to the village. Mikael goes outside and calls the three friends the guard drank with the previous evening. "You three come here right away" Mikael shouts to them. They quickly rush over to Mikael. "As the three of you are just as responsible for what happened last night, I want you to go and get me the head of a rogue werewolf I can take back to the village," Mikael orders the three friends. As they know they cannot defy Mikael, they quickly agree and heads off to go and find a rogue werewolf to kill and get the head for Mikael. A few days have gone by, and two of the men return with the head. They go straight to Mikael. "We brought you the head as you asked Mikael" They say to Mikael "And where is your third friend that went with you?" Mikael asks them. "Steve was killed by the werewolf, sir, but the two of us managed to get it in the end," They reply "Well, Steve won't be missed much. He was, anyways, a way better drinker than he ever was a hunter. Now be off and leave the head here." Mikael says to the two hunters. Mikael goes to the village straight away and gives the head to the man who came to him. "Here you go. I don't think he will ever bother you again," Mikael says to the man. "Thank you, Mikael. We knew you would get rid of this creature for us. Unfortunately, we don't have much, but please take these few gold pieces as a reward for your work." The man replies. Mikael takes the gold pieces and heads back to the academy. He goes to Cole and tells him what happened and that only livestock was killed and no humans except for the guard who, according to Mikael, anyways deserved it. "We were, lucky boy. But, we cannot let something like this happen again. So, I will personally stay with you at the full moon until you master your ability." Mikael says to Cole. A few months went by, and one night Cole finally got hold of the beast inside him. Since then, Cole never turned again on a full moon and could now entirely turn at will.
