Chapter 19

860 Words
Arthur took Aria to see Grace, but he was stopped by Brandon at the door. Brandon glanced at Aria and smiled, "Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage." "Thank you." Aria smiled shyly and then looked gently at Arthur. "Do you not welcome us to see your wife, seeing that you stopped us from entering?" Arthur looked coldly at Brandon who stopped them at the door. "I'm afraid you'll regret going in. My wife gave birth to a daughter and I've received your blessings for that." Brandon was being considerate for them. Based on Grace's temperament, they would definitely be criticized if they went in. For the sake of both his wife and Arthur, it would be best if they didn't go in. Arthur was not willing to give up. "Why will I regret it if we go in and visit?" Brandon raised his eyebrows and opened the door as they insisted. Arthur shifted his attention and saw Emma standing by the bed. He froze as it had been a long time since he'd seen Emma and she seemed to have changed. She was even thinner than before her pregnancy. Emma wore a cap and a loose dress. As she was even slimmer than before, it was hard to tell that she was pregnant. As she had to maintain a decent attitude in front of Emma, Aria forced a smile and said warmly, "Grace, Arthur and I came to see you. As we don't know what you like to eat, we chose some supplements that are good for pregnant women." Grace had always been on Emma's side, so she didn't like Aria at all. She rolled her eyes and said, "You don't have to buy anything for me. I'm afraid to be poisoned after eating it." Her words made Aria embarrassed. She pretended to be calm and replied, "You really know how to joke." Aria calmly put down the gift and returned to Arthur's side. She hadn't wanted to come as she knew she would be bullied but Arthur insisted on coming, so she could only accompany him. "My wife has just given birth and she's a bit impatient. Please forgive her." Brandon quickly tried to smooth things over. "There's nothing wrong with me and I'm not angry. I just can't stand someone's hypocrisy as if everyone owes him without knowing he is the devil himself." Grace insulted while insinuating Arthur. Arthur looked at Emma's womb. The fetus was six months old and her womb looked bigger than her. Arthur frowned and couldn't come to his senses for a long time. "I need to leave. You guys can continue chatting." Emma did not look at Arthur and treated him as if he wasn't there. "Why are you leaving? They should be the one leaving." Grace grabbed Emma's arm. Emma was at a loss in such an awkward situation. "I'll go to the bathroom." Arthur withdrew his attention from Emma. He didn't take Grace's harsh comment seriously. "Brandon, your wife has recovered quite well. She seems healthy to have such a temper after giving birth." "The recovery after the delivery is indeed not bad," Brandon said in a pacifying manner. As Emma walked, she was closer to Arthur. When she was just beside Arthur, her breathing became rapid. Someone tripped on her and she lost her balance. Fortunately, Arthur was quick to catch her from falling. As she was held by the familiar hands and surrounded by the familiar smell, Emma clenched her fists and pushed Arthur's hand away. "Thank you." Emma ran away. Arthur turned to look at Emma's back and felt that something was amiss. "Arthur." Aria shouted a few times and grabbed Arthur's sleeve, but she couldn't divert his attention. Arthur finally reacted. "Yes?" "Brandon just said he wanted to treat you to a meal," Aria said in a low voice. "Sure." After reserving a table in a restaurant, Brandon and Grace invited them to dinner. Emma sat beside Grace and played with the baby. After the dishes were served, Emma only took plain porridge and did not eat any of the dishes. Arthur noticed that and wondered, "Now that Emma was pregnant, shouldn't she eat more nutritious food? Why was she only having porridge? She did not even touch her favorite dishes." Arthur found it increasingly strange as Emma had changed a lot. She had used to love food and dislike wearing a hat. She was currently doing completely opposite of what she had disliked. "Emma, your child is about to be born. If he is a boy, why don't we arrange a marriage between my daughter and your son?" Grace deliberately asked. Emma came back to her senses and said with a smile, "What if she's a girl?" "That is simple. They will be best friends then. What do you think, Arthur?" Grace was looking for trouble to deliberately bring up Emma's pregnancy in front of Aria. Aria's face stiffened. Everyone knew that this child was Arthur's. It annoyed Aria and her initial happy mood because of her forthcoming marriage with Arthur was dampened upon hearing about the child. "Just ask Emma for her permission," Arthur said calmly.
