When Lucas left, Arthur stayed where he was with Lucas's words echoing in his mind. Emma had almost been dead. Why did he say that?
Arthur didn't understand, but he felt an inexplicable pain in his heart, as if he had experienced it before.
Aria was very nervous. Seeing Arthur's flustered look, she immediately went up to ask him.
"Arthur, are you okay? Are you not feeling well?"
Arthur came to his senses and said, "I'm fine."
However, Arthur was in a bad mood. He was extremely irritated after hearing Lucas's words.
"You are injured. Let the doctor take care of the wounds for you."
"I'm okay. Let's go back."
Arthur couldn't care less about the injuries on his face. He quickly took care of Aria's discharge formalities and sent her home. He was still worried about Emma's whereabouts. At least, he and Emma hadn't divorced yet, so he still needed to find some time to complete the formalities of the divorce with her. Arthur looked for an excuse to console himself and concluded that the worry came from Emma's possible absence for the divorce.
Seeing that Arthur was absent-minded, Aria had a sense of crisis as she wanted to leave quickly. Aria could not help but ask, "Are you going to look for Emma? Didn't we agree not to bother with her? Why are you still looking for her?"
Aria was not satisfied. She had done so much but she could not divert all of Arthur's attention back.
"She's pregnant and has no one to rely on. I'm afraid that something might happen to her. Once we are divorced and I could settle her down, I won't see her again." Arthur comforted Aria. He had promised Emma's father to take good care of Emma. He could not break his promise.
Aria's tears were about to flow out. All she wanted was Arthur treating her well with all his heart, yet he still wanted to look for Emma. Aria couldn't voice out her reluctance, so she could only grit her teeth and say, "I'll wait for you. You must come back at night."
Arthur promised her and left quickly. He intended to go home and see if Emma was there. When he arrived home, the house was empty as if nobody had been there for a long time. It was cold and empty without any trace of Emma. However, he found the divorce agreement that Emma left on the table. The beautiful handwriting on it indicated that Emma had agreed to the divorce. Arthur frowned as he didn't expect any relief, instead, it added a heavy weight on him.
Arthur quickly called Emma, but the phone was turned off. Arthur then called Grace and she answered by calling Arthur a scum on the phone. She cried while scolding him as she had no idea where Emma went.
Was their marriage going to end like this?
Arthur didn't expect the marriage to have ended that way. They had agreed for a divorce ten months later but it was merely more than a month later that their five-year marriage came to an end.
Arthur sat in his room and pondered for a long time. "Where can a pregnant lady go? How will she be able to survive after that?"
Thinking that Emma had no one to rely on and that she left everything behind, Arthur couldn't find it in himself to be ruthless, even though he didn't love Emma. Arthur immediately got up and drove outside to find her.
It was raining and there were many cars on the road. Arthur drove very slowly, afraid that he would miss out on Emma. Flustered, he searched nervously. After a long time, Arthur was a little irritated and he started to hit the steering wheel anxiously.
All of a sudden, he saw a woman with an umbrella who looked like Emma on the street. He stopped his car and rushed out, grabbing the woman like a reckless young man, and shouted, "Emma!"
The woman turned her head, but she was not Emma. Instead, she accused him of being crazy.
He tried his best. He wanted to get Emma back, but Emma had already left and disappeared from his life.
Arthur lost his wits and went home soaked. Sitting silently and motionlessly, he recalled that he refused to come back home in the past, because he was unhappy and disgusted to see Emma constantly. However, when there was no longer Emma, the air seemed lifeless and that was not what he wanted neither.
The lights were not turned on for the night. Leaning against the sofa with his head down, Arthur remained motionless to numb himself from thinking about Emma's current situation.
The phone rang and it was from Aria. Arthur didn't want to pick up because he was confused with his feeling. He clearly loved Aria but he still had sympathy for Emma and this was completely unlike him. In the end, he decided not to pick up the phone to avoid being questioned by Aria. He didn't want to see her neither.
After sitting for a long time, Arthur started to have a fever. His throat was dry and he felt extremely uncomfortable. He fell asleep on the sofa and his condition became worse.
The door suddenly opened, and the jingling sound of the keys was heard. Light footsteps headed toward Arthur.
Arthur opened his eyes dizzily. He thought that it was his illusion to have seen Emma.
