Chapter 12

926 Words
All her life, Emma's greatest regret was being in love with Arthur. Aria was saved by Arthur and she fainted in his arms. Holding Aria in his arms, Arthur stared coldly at the two men who had shoved Aria. The two men panicked. "It's not us. This woman paid us to do it." They pointed at Emma, who was lying on the ground. However, Emma was unable to speak. When Arthur declared his love toward Aria, her heart had been badly hurt. If she could have another chance in her life, she wanted to forget her pain and forget about Arthur. Arthur's eyes were filled with hatred as he said coldly, "You're cruel, Emma. If anything happened to Aria, I'll bury you with her!" Arthur left with Aria, leaving Emma alone to endure the cold wind. He didn't know that Emma was having a stomachache, and there was a stream of blood flowing out from between her legs. Struggling, Emma looked up to see Arthur carrying Aria in his arms. She tried her best to remember Arthur's cruel silhouette. Gritting her teeth while scratching at the cold floor, Emma did not want to experience this horrible scene ever again in her life. When she woke up, she was lying in the ward. The sterile smell of disinfectant was so strong that Emma was about to vomit. Emma tried to move her body, only to remember the child in her womb. She sat up suddenly and lifted the quilt. "Emma, you're awake." Grace's eyes were red from crying and her voice was choked with sobs. Emma grabbed Grace's arm and asked nervously, "Is the baby okay?" "The baby is still here, but you nearly had a miscarriage. The doctor said that you should stay in bed, or else you may miscarry easily," Grace covered her mouth and said sadly. Emma breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the baby was fine, everything would be fine. Emma caressed her belly, determined to give birth to the baby. She looked up at Grace to see Grace still crying. Then she asked, "Why are you crying? I'm fine." "You lied to me, and you are still lying to me!" Grace was a little agitated. Emma lowered her eyes. She didn't dare to face the question of the person who loved her, as she couldn't answer. "You can go back. I need to rest." Grace was both angry and distressed. In Emma's heart, there was no one else but Arthur. "Are you going to drive me away? If I'm not around, who do you think would take care of you? Arthur? He's already gone with that vixen!" Emma turned her back to Grace and cried silently. She knew everything, but she was afraid to let Grace see her crying. She would prefer to die quietly alone fighting against the agony of the cancer. "I know you're doing this for my own good, but for now, I would like you to leave. I can take good care of myself," Emma said calmly. "Emma!" Grace said disappointedly. They had been friends for so many years, but their friendship was incomparable with the importance of Arthur. "You have disappointed me so much. You still have me as a friend even when there is no Arthur, but there is never anyone else except him in your heart." Emma drove all the people away so that she could be left alone. She was afraid that people would find out that she had a severe stomachache. Emma spat out a mouthful of blood, and her stomach ached badly. Her face was ashen and she covered her stomach by hunching. She was uncertain if there was pain as she felt numb from a long period of agony. With a dull thud, the door was opened. Emma wiped her mouth with a napkin and moved the trash can under the bed. She raised her head to see Arthur standing at the door with a cold expression on his face. "Arthur," Emma shouted. Arthur said sarcastically, "Are you still pretending to be weak to get sympathy? Do you think that you can deceive me by staying in the ward? Emma, if it weren't for this time, I wouldn't know you are so vicious. If you were able to kill Aria, what else can't you do?" Emma felt as if her heart had been cut by a knife. Faced with the distrust of her beloved, she could only swallow the bitterness in her heart. "I..." "Stop talking. Don't you want a divorce? Sign it now and we will find a time to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to handle it!" Arthur didn't want to listen to her explanation, so he took out the divorce agreement and placed it in front of Emma. "I didn't push Aria. She directed and acted on her own." Emma still wanted to explain but she no longer cared to know if Arthur believed her. Arthur was furious and he glared at Emma. He had seen with his own eyes how Aria had been pushed off the rooftop. Moreover, the two men had admitted that it was Emma who had orchestrated the whole incident, yet she still quibbled about it. "You left Aria to die last time, and now you wanted to kill her. Do you think I still believe you? You just acted innocent to gain my sympathy. Aren't you tired of pretending for so long? Fortunately, Aria is alright, or else you deserve to die for what you did!" Arthur said in disgust.
