CHAPTER 14
I clasped my hands together, hiding them on my lap, under the table. They couldn’t stop shaking. The official robes of the high members concealed the blood and dirt all over my clothes. I didn’t heal as fast as Jaye, and I had no power left to clean myself up. I pressed my lips together. I had to appear emotionless. I could not react.
I sat on my chair at the council hall, an emotionless statue, even though my heart was a thunderous tremor. Music to Jaye’s ears, I bet. Hex him.
My friend from Paiza. Who was it? Could it be Burk? It wasn’t Rhein or they would say the King was here. He wouldn’t come. I was sure of it. He had his people to think about. He couldn’t risk it.
