Chapter 9- Gift

  "Hey! Wait!" A man called out from the door mere seconds after I hid. He didn't sound angry, but rather worried. "I..IF YOU NEED FOOD, I WILL GIVE YOU SOME!" He yelled toward me. "I PROMISE, I WON'T HURT YOU! AND I WON'T CALL THE POLICE!" At that moment, I caught the sound of footsteps on the gravel outside the back door.   "HEY!?" The man called again. "I'm going to make a bag for you, OK? You don't have to talk to me. OK, kid. I will put some food in a bag and set it out here. Then I will turn off the light in the kitchen and go upstairs. I promise, I won't come out here to get you or hurt you." The man sounded sincere. And, apparently, he'd seen me. However, he thought I was a child because of my small, slender body.   Could I trust this man? Should I take anything he puts outside
