I returned to the house with no incident at all. Which in and of itself was a miracle, after that last disaster I'd experienced with people. The McCall brothers might have been an exception. Then again, they could be the norm and people like Ian and the lady at the store could have been the exceptions to the rule. If only I could remember how people usually behaved.
