CHAPTER FOUR

1038 Words
ALICE’S POV Dashing through the night. Through the woods, eating the hunted game I sighted, I didn't know where I was running to. I didn't even know why I ran in the first place. I just couldn't stay. Why would I stay? After seeing Gunther laugh with Helena, I lost it. I brandished my claws out in rage at my strong feelings of hate. I swung my hands with the sole aim of killing them, any of them. I needed this raging beast growing inside of me to be satisfied. I caught Guther on his right cheek. The s***h was so deep, and his blood dripped off my fingers. He came in to protect Helena. I didn't mean to hurt him, despite what he just did. I looked on for a second and then disappeared into the night. I wish I killed Helena or even caught Gunther. It was all in my head. After what he did to me, I disappeared. No gut to fight. I had lost my will. I long ran before I could even think of doing anything else. My legs thought they were faster than my brain. I've been running for days now. Just yesterday I was shot at. The human thought I was a wild animal, or so he said. He wasn't wrong, but he can't know that now. I ripped his head off. Does that mean there is a human settlement close by? My eyes glowed and my scent came to life. I saw the man's tracks, as well as his scent leading toward the direction he came from. I followed. I had already changed my now-tattered clothes to the man's shirt and pants. It looked bigger on me. I made rope off tree bark, tightened the falling trousers, and continued following the scent as well as footprints. It led me to the end of the forest, his truck parked at the other end of the road. I wasn't alien to the human world, although I never settled there. I crossed the road without looking and a car swerved off its lane, almost hitting a tree. The man driving came down furious. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why didn't you look before crossing? Huh!" his arms swaying in a different direction, livid. "I'm sorry" I continued toward the truck. I don't know why, but he didn't talk any longer. He just kept staring at me like he had seen a ghost. I kept walking. Soon as I got into the car, he got into his and sped off. I was in the car for a while, my head on the steering wheel, crying. It's been more than a week now, but I still couldn't get it off my chest. The pain didn't lessen. My endless running seemed to have not numbed the pain. I felt heavy. I looked through the rearview mirror and dashboard for nothing in particular. I stumbled on the man's picture, the family picture. He had three kids. I dropped the picture and kickstarted the truck by joining some wires together, didn't work. Couldn't find his key, must have been in his pocket. I was almost out of the truck, ready to go back to his body, then I remembered I had his clothes on. I checked for the key by tapping each pocket to feel it. It was in the chest pocket. I got in and fumbled the key for a while. I needed to calm down. I took a deep breath, inserted the key into the keyhole, and turned it to ignite. The truck came on and the engine roared. I drove in the direction the car faced. Now, I find myself amongst humans. It was different. They had different emotions inside, even if almost all of them smiled. That wasn't how it was with the pack. Oh, Gunther. No no no you will stop thinking about him this moment! Do you hear me? Get rid of that name. It doesn't belong in this world. I sighed and smiled, like the humans. I could read minds, they couldn't. I had long abandoned the truck. It came to a still after a couple of hours, of driving. I started walking among the humans then. I don't know where this place is, but it seemed busy. It was like really tall and many ants living in a particular place. I saw where clothes were sold. I might not be fully human, but I do know when I need to change my clothes, and as I said, I wasn't alien to the human world. I went into the shop, eyes turned to me. What were they looking at? Soon after, I saw a dress I liked. I took it and was heading out when I got called back. I was confused. "Sorry ma'am, you will need to pay for those" The salesgirl pointed at my dress, shoes, and jacket. "Oh," I looked on. A gentleman, with blonde hair cut in. "Hi, she's with me," he said, bringing out a card from his wallet. "Thank you" the salesgirl responded after a beep sound from her machine. She gave the card back to him. "Um, thanks," I said, unsure of what else to say or how to ask for shelter. "Don't worry, it's all fine" he smiled. There was something about his pretty face. He was devilishly handsome. He had some impressive facial features. His diamond-like face had some darkness in his eyes. He was taller than me, quite tall. He wasn't shredded like Guther, he was slim. He walked gingerly. "Um sorry, can I tag along? I know it must sound weird but I don't have anywhere to go" I said, hugging my new outfit. He took a long look at me, his eyes almost like they pierced through my soul, and saw my innermost thoughts. He smiled again, oh that evil smile. "Okay Stranger" He got into a black Mercedes and left the door to the front seat open. I got in and before I could even close the door, he drove off. "What's your name?" he asked without looking at me, his eyes on the road. "Alice" "Henry" he flashed his dimple. There is something about him...
