A tragic start.
Once in a land, there was a kingdom known as Wisteria. The kingdom had a loving king and queen that were loved by everyone. The king was a committed and respected ruler and the queen never left his side. The king was tall and dark-haired. His name was Arthur.the queen was very beautiful, with a light complexion and hazel eyes. She was called Kayla. Soon enough, as expected, the queen got pregnant and everyone in the nation was excited.
One night, the king and queen were in their room. The king had just come from taking a bath. He wore some sleeping outfits and sat next to Kayla. Kayla lay her head on Arthur’s chest. Arthur patted his wife with care and smiled a little. He appreciated the moment and couldn't think of anything better at that rate. He then started to talk to Kayla:
Arthur:My queen, when our son is born, he will rule Wisteria and everything in it. I will teach him how to fight and win wars and conquer like never before. He will be loved by all.
Kayla: Don't be naive Arthur, what if we got a baby girl instead? Will you do all that or listen to the people?
Arthur hesitated for a while. He knew that the people believed that the firstborn in a royal family should be a prince who would guarantee peace and good leadership. Otherwise, it was just a bad omen for them. But Arthur knew better. He would do anything for Kayla also and hence knew the importance of this child in general, whether it was female or male.
Arthur:I will protect her at all costs, no matter what. I know what she may mean to you and don't see the downsides to having a girl.
Kayla: What of the superstition?
Arthur: Not a finger will be laid on her.
Kayla just looked at Arthur and had a faint smile, then lay back on his chest.
Arthur kept patting her gently until she fell asleep.
Few months later.
The queen was near her delivery stage but was still calm and loving. She didn't have a bad temper or spoke rudely, taking advantage of her pregnancy.
She was one day knitting with her entrusted maid called Suzan. They were making tiny sweaters and talking all the time until suddenly Kayla kept quiet.
Suzan read the room and felt something off. She took a quick glance at Kayla and spoke
Suzan: Is everything alright, your highness?
Kayla: -Trying to stand up- Yes I am, I was just a bit....
Before she could say anything, she fell to her knees. She had a bit of dizziness, and she felt abrupt pain all at once overwhelming her. She tried but just couldn't hold the pain and unleashed a terrifying scream.
Suzan immediately picked her up and slowly escorted her to the bed that was in the room and asked for a birthing specialist. By then, the king had a meeting and was held up tight so he couldn't leave, but he was not in a panic because he knew that Kayla was in good hands.
Hours later, Arthur came out of the meeting and, without wasting any more time than he already had, he rushed to see Kayla.
He soon arrived in the room and stood outside where there were two guards and a female helper. Arthur faced the maid and asked before he opened the doors to get in. But to his surprise, before he could speak up, the maid had tears rolling down her face.
Arthur hesitated for some seconds there. The first thought that came to mind was that he had a girl. He wasn't so terrified by this thought and a bit of relief came to him.
Arthur:What is it?
The maid could not look straight at his highness. She faced down as she spoke in a breaking tone with fear.
Maid: It is a girl your highness.
Arthur: How is Kayla?
The maid burst into more tears and fell to her knees. It didn't take long for Arthur to realize what might be happening.
Without thinking or any hesitation, Arthur quickly opened the doors and got in. At first, he couldn't read the room. Suzan was standing in a far corner holding the newborn in her arms, but she didn't look that excited.
Arthur's eyes moved around the room, taking a quick glimpse of everyone who was present at the moment. His eyes soon fell on Kayla, who was on the bed just laying there with no single movement of any organ in her body. She seemed paleer than usual, which Arthur made a very shallow conclusion that may be due to dehydration. He thought of something that he didn't want to admit at the glance of his wife.
Suzan then spoke out of the blue with a sad and cracking tone of voice that didn't sound so pleasing to Arthur:
Suzan: Your highness, Her majesty, she....she is gone - Suzan then bursts into tears-
Arthur didn't respond in action. In fact, it was like he didn't hear that information coming out of Suzan. He was filled with rage and didn't want anyone around.
Arthur: Leave! All of you out!
Everyone in the room left. Suzan was the last to leave, but before she left,
Arthur: Suzan, take care of that child like your life depends on it.
Suzan: Yes.-she then leaves the room-
Arthur stood beside the bed just looking at Kayla. He couldn't cry at first, it was like things happened so fast that his brain couldn't catch up with the present. As he stood there, memories rushed through his head and all he could think of was that everything that he ever cared for was just gone in an instant.
He then thought if he had been there, if he left the meeting like a good husband might have done, Kayla might still be alive.
He stood there, clenching his fists and slowly turning red. He would give anything just to talk to Kayla at least one more time. But there was nothing to do, she was already gone.
He fell to his knees and put his face on Kayla’s stomach and his hands were holding the dress tightly. Arthur wanted to scream but felt as if he couldn't move a sound out of his throat. He just stood like that and let the tears roll down his eyes, knowing it would be the last time he ever touched Kayla.
Now Arthur was just left there with no one by him. He was left speechless with no one but himself to heal his broken heart.
