Chapter 3: The Rebellious Alpha
The first rays of dawn crept over the Blackwood Mountains, casting long shadows across the towering walls of Blackwood Fortress.
Inside the training grounds, the clash of steel echoed through the cold morning air.
More than a hundred warriors stood in a circle, watching their Alpha.
Kael Blackwood moved like a storm.
His sword flashed through the air with breathtaking speed, knocking one opponent after another to the ground. No one could match him.
"Again!" Kael commanded.
Five elite warriors attacked him at once.
One came from the front.
Two from the sides.
Two from behind.
Kael didn't panic.
He spun, blocked a spear with his sword, kicked another warrior backward, ducked beneath a swinging axe, and disarmed the remaining two in a matter of seconds.
The training ground fell silent.
The defeated warriors slowly stood and bowed their heads.
"You've improved," Kael said calmly. "But not enough."
His Beta, Rowan Ashford, walked over carrying a towel.
"If you keep defeating everyone this easily, they'll lose confidence."
Kael wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"They'll lose their lives if they aren't prepared."
Before Rowan could answer, a guard hurried into the courtyard.
"My Alpha!"
Kael looked up.
"What is it?"
"The Werewolf Council has arrived."
Kael sighed heavily.
"I knew they wouldn't stay away."
---
Minutes later, the grand doors of the throne room opened.
Five council elders entered, dressed in long silver robes.
At their head stood Elder Cedric, a stern man known for enforcing ancient traditions.
He bowed politely.
"Alpha Kael."
Kael remained seated on his throne.
"Elder Cedric."
"You know why we're here."
"I have a few guesses."
"The Ancient Bond."
Kael leaned back.
"I thought so."
Elder Cedric stepped closer.
"The Moon Goddess has chosen your mate."
"I know."
"You are expected to travel to Silver Moon Pack immediately."
"No."
The room became tense.
The elders exchanged worried glances.
"Alpha Kael," Cedric said firmly, "this is not a request."
Kael's silver eyes hardened.
"I don't obey the Council."
"You obey the Moon Goddess."
"I respect her."
"Then honor the bond."
Kael stood.
He towered over everyone in the room.
"I built this pack without the Council's help."
"I protected my people when you ignored us."
"I fought your wars."
"I buried my family while you watched."
"So don't come into my home and tell me how to live."
Silence filled the hall.
Even the guards looked uneasy.
Finally, Elder Cedric spoke.
"You cannot reject destiny forever."
Kael turned away.
"Watch me."
The elders left without another word.
But before reaching the door, Cedric paused.
"The Shadow Wolves have begun to move."
Kael looked over his shoulder.
"What did you say?"
"They are searching for the girl."
After saying those words, the elders disappeared.
For the first time that morning, Kael looked troubled.
---
Meanwhile, Luna spent the day helping Grandma Rose prepare herbal medicines.
She tried to act as though nothing had changed.
But everything had.
Every person who passed the cottage looked at her differently.
Some stared with curiosity.
Others with fear.
Children whispered as they walked by.
"That's the Alpha's mate."
"She doesn't even have a wolf."
"I heard the Rebellious Alpha will reject her."
Luna pretended not to hear.
She focused on crushing herbs into a wooden bowl.
Grandma Rose watched her quietly.
"You're thinking about him again."
Luna smiled weakly.
"Is it that obvious?"
The old woman chuckled.
"A little."
Luna sighed.
"I don't even know what kind of person he is."
"You'll find out."
"If he ever comes."
Grandma Rose didn't answer.
---
That evening, Elder Magnus visited the cottage.
His expression was unusually serious.
"Luna."
She stood.
"Yes, Elder?"
"You must leave the village tonight."
Her smile disappeared.
"What?"
"You are no longer safe here."
Grandma Rose frowned.
"What happened?"
"Our scouts found rogue wolf tracks near the northern border."
"Rogues?"
Magnus nodded.
"They aren't ordinary rogues."
"They're searching."
"For me?"
"Yes."
Luna felt a chill run through her body.
"But why?"
Magnus looked at the glowing mark on her wrist.
"Because someone wants the Ancient Bond destroyed before it can be fulfilled."
---
Far away, hidden deep within the Forest of Shadows...
A group of black-cloaked wolves knelt before a woman seated on a throne carved from black stone.
Her name was Morgana, the Shadow Queen.
Her beauty was as striking as it was terrifying.
Long silver hair flowed over her dark robes.
Her crimson eyes glowed with ancient power.
One of her generals stepped forward.
"My Queen."
"Speak."
"We have located the girl."
A smile spread across Morgana's face.
"So the prophecy was true."
"Yes."
"And Alpha Kael?"
"He has not claimed her."
Morgana laughed softly.
"Excellent."
She rose from her throne.
"If they remain apart..."
"The Ancient Bond will be weaker."
She looked toward the moon.
"We strike tonight."
---
Night settled over Silver Moon Village.
Luna couldn't sleep.
The strange mark on her wrist glowed brighter than before.
She stepped outside for fresh air.
The forest was unusually quiet.
Too quiet.
Suddenly—
Snap!
A twig broke somewhere among the trees.
Luna froze.
"Who's there?"
No answer.
Only silence.
Then another sound.
Closer this time.
She slowly backed toward the cottage.
Her heartbeat quickened.
Dark figures emerged from the trees.
One.
Two.
Five.
Ten.
Each wore black armor marked with the symbol of a crimson wolf.
Their leader smiled coldly.
"There she is."
Luna took another step backward.
"Who are you?"
"The ones sent to end the prophecy."
The leader drew his sword.
"Kill her."
The Shadow Wolves charged.
Luna turned and ran.
"Grandma!"
The village bells suddenly rang.
Warriors rushed into the streets.
Arrows flew through the air.
Steel clashed against steel.
The peaceful village became a battlefield in seconds.
Luna ran as fast as she could, but one Shadow Wolf leaped in front of her.
He raised his blade.
"It ends here."
Luna squeezed her eyes shut.
Before the sword could strike—
A powerful howl echoed across the valley.
Every wolf stopped.
Even the Shadow Wolves looked toward the mountains.
Another howl answered.
Stronger.
Closer.
The ground trembled beneath their feet.
Far above the village, standing on a cliff beneath the full moon, was a lone figure wearing a black cloak.
His silver eyes shone in the darkness.
Alpha Kael Blackwood had arrived.
"I told myself I wouldn't come," he murmured.
His wolf growled inside him.
Protect our mate.
Kael sighed.
"You always win."
With one powerful leap, he disappeared from the cliff, racing toward the burning village as the battle below erupted into chaos.
Chapter 4: The Bond Nobody Wanted
The peaceful Silver Moon Village had become a battlefield.
Warriors fought desperately against the invading Shadow Wolves. Swords clashed, arrows flew through the air, and frightened villagers rushed to protect their children.
Flames from burning homes lit up the night sky.
Luna stumbled backward as the Shadow Wolf raised his sword.
"Your story ends here," he growled.
She closed her eyes.
Suddenly—
CLANG!
The sound of steel crashing against steel echoed through the village.
Luna slowly opened her eyes.
Standing between her and the Shadow Wolf was a tall man dressed in a long black cloak. His broad shoulders blocked the moonlight, and in his hand was a black sword engraved with ancient wolf runes.
His silver eyes glowed like the moon itself.
Without even looking back, he spoke in a calm but commanding voice.
"Stay behind me."
Luna's heart skipped a beat.
She didn't know why, but she immediately obeyed.
The Shadow Wolf laughed.
"So... the Rebellious Alpha finally decided to show himself."
Kael slowly lifted his sword.
"I don't like repeating myself."
His voice became cold.
"Leave."
The Shadow Wolves looked at one another before their leader smiled.
"Our Queen warned us you would come."
Kael narrowed his eyes.
"So Morgana is behind this."
The leader charged with a fierce roar.
Kael didn't move.
At the very last second—
He stepped aside.
One swift strike.
The Shadow Wolf's sword shattered into pieces.
A second strike sent the attacker crashing into the ground unconscious.
The remaining Shadow Wolves hesitated.
Their leader had fallen in seconds.
"Attack together!" one shouted.
Eight wolves rushed Kael at once.
Luna watched in amazement.
She had never seen anyone fight like this.
Kael moved with incredible speed. Every swing of his sword was precise. Every dodge was effortless.
Within moments, the attackers lay scattered across the ground.
The survivors retreated in fear.
"This isn't over!" one of them shouted before disappearing into the forest.
Silence returned to the village.
Only the crackling of burning wood remained.
Kael slowly turned toward Luna.
For the first time...
Their eyes truly met.
Neither of them spoke.
The glowing mark on Luna's wrist suddenly became warm.
At the same moment, Kael placed a hand over his chest where the same mark burned beneath his shirt.
The bond between them pulsed like a heartbeat.
"So..." Kael finally said.
"You're Luna."
She nodded quietly.
"And you're Alpha Kael."
He sighed.
"This is... inconvenient."
Luna blinked.
"Inconvenient?"
"I never wanted a mate."
His blunt honesty stung, though she tried not to show it.
"I didn't ask for this either."
For a moment, they simply stared at one another.
Then, to Kael's surprise...
Luna smiled faintly.
"I guess neither of us had a choice."
Something about her calm response caught him off guard.
Most people either feared him or tried to impress him.
She did neither.
Before he could say anything else, Rowan hurried over with several Blackwood warriors.
"The Shadow Wolves are retreating," Rowan reported.
He glanced at Luna before grinning.
"So this is the famous mate."
Kael shot him a warning look.
"Not another word."
Rowan raised both hands.
"I said nothing."
---
Elder Magnus approached, leaning heavily on his staff.
He bowed respectfully.
"Alpha Kael... thank you for saving our people."
Kael nodded once.
"I didn't come for your village."
His gaze shifted briefly to Luna.
"I came because the bond wouldn't leave me alone."
Luna lowered her eyes.
Even though his words sounded harsh, she knew he had still come.
That meant something.
Elder Magnus spoke again.
"The attacks will continue."
"I know."
"The prophecy has begun."
Kael frowned.
"What prophecy?"
The elder looked around to make sure no one else was listening.
"There are truths that have been hidden for centuries."
"The Ancient Bond is more than a mating bond."
"It is the key to awakening a power that can either save the werewolf world... or destroy it."
Kael folded his arms.
"And this involves her?"
"Yes."
Luna looked confused.
"I don't understand any of this."
"You will," the elder said gently.
"But not tonight."
---
Later, Grandma Rose treated the wounded inside her cottage.
Luna quietly handed her fresh bandages.
Kael stood outside beneath the moon, staring toward the dark forest.
Rowan joined him.
"You've been unusually quiet."
Kael didn't answer.
"What are you thinking?"
Kael finally spoke.
"She's not what I expected."
Rowan smiled.
"You expected someone arrogant?"
"I expected someone who would complain."
"And?"
"She thanked me."
Rowan laughed.
"I think your mate is already changing you."
Kael gave him a flat look.
"No one is changing me."
From inside the cottage, Luna accidentally overheard the conversation.
She smiled to herself.
"Stubborn," she whispered.
Grandma Rose noticed.
"What is it?"
"Nothing."
But for the first time since learning about the bond, Luna felt a tiny spark of hope.
---
Far away, inside the ruined castle, Morgana stood before a magical mirror.
The image of Kael protecting Luna shimmered across its surface.
"So..."
She smiled coldly.
"They've finally met."
A dark-robed sorcerer stepped beside her.
"My Queen, shall we attack again?"
Morgana shook her head.
"No."
"Let them grow closer."
The sorcerer looked confused.
"But why?"
She touched the mirror.
"The stronger their bond becomes..."
"The greater the power that will awaken."
"And when that power awakens..."
Her crimson eyes gleamed.
"I will take it for myself."
She laughed, and the mirror cracked with dark energy.
---
Just before dawn, Kael prepared to leave.
His warriors saddled their horses outside the village.
Luna walked toward him.
"So..."
"You're leaving?"
Kael nodded.
"For now."
She tried to hide her disappointment.
"I understand."
He looked at her for a long moment.
"The Shadow Wolves will return."
"I know."
"You won't be safe here."
Luna looked up.
"What are you saying?"
Kael took a deep breath, clearly reluctant.
"I'm saying..."
"You'll come with me."
Luna's eyes widened.
"To Blackwood Fortress?"
"Yes."
She had never left Silver Moon Village.
Everything she knew was here.
Grandma Rose.
Her small cottage.
The only home she had ever known.
Could she really leave it all behind?
As the sun began to rise over the mountains, Luna realized that her life was about to change forever.
The journey with the Rebellious Alpha had only just begun.
