Chapter Eight

Zac’s I continued looking back and forth between the two of them, “Well okay, now that’s cleared, I need to talk to your mate.” I said in an annoyed tone.  “What about?” He asked me, worried. I glared at him, “About my mate and what the hell is happening in this damn pack.” I growled at him.  He looked at her and she softly said, “it’s okay I can talk to him.” He gently grabbed her hand and brushed his lips across her knuckles.  He turned to me and his voice came through my head, “no more yelling though. Kapeesh?” he said as he narrowed his eyes at me. “Fine, I will do my best not to yell.” I said back to him. I pulled out a chair at the small kitchen table and the three of us sat down.  “Look I need to know what’s happening here, my mate looks like she was held prisoner and she is telling me once I learn of what happened I won’t want her.” I asked a little bit more harshly than I meant to, earning myself a glare from James. She let out a sigh, “okay, here it is. She is blamed for our Luna's death, has been since the day she died. Then, supposedly, she made a mess of the kitchen the day before your expected arrival. It took us four hours to clean it up. '' She said quickly. I nodded my head and rolled my eyes, “I know this, you said this earlier, explain what the hell happened to her!” I shouted.  She jumped in shock, and James growled at me. I put my hands up and took a breath. “she has been treated like the pack slave and w***e. That’s all you need to know.” She said before she jumped up and walked off.  “Dude, you need to calm down.” James said as he stood up and briskly walked off after her. I growled and followed after them. “Look I need your help, are you actually a friend of hers?” I shouted out as they continued to walk away, we were now in the living room. She stopped and spun around to look at me, “I have been for a long time, why?” She growled at me, her annoyance was obvious.  I ran my hands through my hair, “I need to go out and get her stuff, will you come with me? Or tell me what she needs at least?” I asked her. She shook her head, “no, I can’t leave.” She started to fiddle with her fingers.  “Can’t or won’t?” James asked softly. We apparently both had the same idea. “Can’t, Alpha Black has the pack omega’s linked that if any of us leave the border he will know instantly. The plan was to get out of the border a ways and then reject the pack.” I could see James' anger, it matched mine. “Plus, we she isn’t allowed to be given anything.” She said the last part softly. “That has been deemed illegal for a reason, too many wolves were being maltreated and couldn’t leave because of this. Did you know that the link wouldn’t have been broken?” She looked at me shocked. “She is my mate, I will give her anything she needs or wants, I don’t take orders from Alpha Black.”  “What do you mean it wouldn’t have been broken?” She asked shakily. “To break that link you have to die or the alpha or the witch who cast it has to release it.” I could see the fear in her eyes. “You both got really lucky that we got you before you crossed over the border.” I turned to James, “We need to talk to Tasha, maybe there is something she can do.” He nodded his head and we all made our ways upstairs.  Magnolia’s pov I watched as he slowly walked out the door, he turned back and looked at me. The look in his eyes made the tears start to fall. Why did I have to find my mate? Why couldn’t the goddess just let me die?  “Magnolia, are you okay?” Tasha asked me. I shrugged my shoulders,”I don’t know. I feel that I want him but I don’t think he will want me once he learns-” I started to cry harder.  “Magnolia, he won’t reject you, he has waited too long for you.” She said softly as she set the very tray I had washed yesterday on the end of the bed. I shook my head and felt the anger rise in me, “you seem so sure that he will want someone who probably won’t be able to give him a baby.” I hissed at her the hot tears streaking down my face. She looked at me shocked, “what happened that you think that way?” She asked me.  I took a breath to calm down so I could actually talk, I didn’t want to talk about it but I knew in my heart I could trust her. “I have been raped by so many men, then what they did to me last night.” I shuddered as I remembered the silver torture device. “What did they do?” She asked softly. “They raped and tortured me with something the alpha had given them. It was silver.” I hugged myself closer as I tried to not remember how it burned. My lower abdomen still ached.  “What do you mean it was something the alpha gave them?” she asked. I swallowed hard, “the alpha came down and gave them something, he said it was from a friend of his.” I looked at her and her eyes were wide. She took a breath, “I know of another woman who spoke similarly of a torture device, she has become good friends with me over these last few weeks.” She took a breath, “was it like a pear of anguish?” She asked calmly. I looked at her shocked, someone else had had it used on them too? I thought to myself.  I tried to use my voice but couldn’t so I nodded my head instead. She gasped, and stood up, “you have a snack, I need to go talk to someone.” She started walking from the room. I jumped up and grabbed her hand, “No, please don’t tell anyone!” I said quietly.  She looked at me surprised, “look I won’t tell Zac, however I need to tell the king, this isn’t just about you anymore. This item that was used on you belonged to Erik D’Ambrosio, former King of Dragons.” I looked at her in shock. “What are you saying?” I asked her. “I am saying that everyone here and throughout the entire world is in serious trouble.” I released her hand, “I won’t say anything to anyone but Zeke, but you need to tell Zac as soon as you’re ready.” I nodded my head as she ran from the room.  The two ladies from earlier walked in after she left, “she ran out of here pretty quick, what happened?”  I shook my head, “nothing, just talking.” One of them walked over her hair was black and gray and very long.  “Ooo, trail mix! Magnolia, come have some with me.” I smiled as she was obviously attempting to get closer to me. In a way it was a breath of fresh air, but I was still worried if they were two faced like most of my pack was. I walked over, finally starting to feel comfortable around these people. “It’s been nearly two years since I had any trail mix.” I smiled and remembered the last time. “My mom had made some after we went for a run, that was one of my favorite days.” I said softly as I picked up a few pieces.  “Where are your parents?” The other lady asked. I sighed, “dead.” I didn’t know what else to say, what was I supposed to say? They died because of me.  “I’m sorry, the loss of a parent in any circumstance is hard, both, even more so.” she said softly. I looked at her and gently sat on the bed, my back still aching. “Who are you guys anyways?”  “I am Sara, and this is Claire, we are Zac’s grandmothers.” The one with long hair said.  I nodded my head, “is that why you want to get to know me?” I asked while picking at the handful of mix in my hand.  “That and we are worried about you. We want to make sure you’re okay.” Claire said in a soothing voice.  “Why would you be worried about me?” I asked them a bit more harshly than I had intended.  They were about to answer when Zac opened the door roughly. He looked around his eyes lingering on me, “where did Tasha go?” His voice was soft which was the opposite of what his emotions were saying.  “She said something about needing to speak to your father.” Sara said to him. He nodded his head and ran from the room.  They looked at each other confused and ran out of the room as well. I decided I would follow them too.  I set my trail mix down, which was fine I was full anyway, and followed them out of the room. I followed them through the halls to one of the master rooms in the house. Everyone was standing there listening to Zac, I loved the way his voice sounded.  Even though his voice was filled with concern it was still soothing, “Tasha, is there any way you can break one of the linking spells done to pack members and alpha?” He asked and I was surprised he even knew about that.  Suddenly I felt arms wrap around me and a soft voice, “Oh Mags, I was so worried! Don’t ever scare me like that again!” She said firmly.  I sighed in relief at the sound of her voice, “I am for now, what’s going on, how did he know about the link?” She bit her lip. “I told him, rejecting the pack wouldn’t have broken the link like we were told, we would have been followed until they caught us.” My eyes grew wide and I looked at Zac who was talking to Tasha. Now I realize how lucky we really got. Alpha Black’s pov “Alpha, we have a situation in the dungeon.” I heard a link from one of my guards.  I rolled my eyes, “Well handle it.” I growled at him, it was one of the guards I had allowed in the dungeon last night with that stupid mutt.  “Sir, that thing you wanted me to handle, it’s missing.” It felt like I was splashed with a bucket of ice water.  “How?” I asked harshly. “I don’t know, I can smell her and another wolf but I can’t make out who it is over the smell of blood.” He said gruffly. I growled into the link, “I will be there in a minute, I will find out who let the little w***e out.” I had a feeling I already knew who it was, her scent would tell me the truth though. I stood up and made my way through the pack house to the dungeon. I walked over to where she was supposed to be and breathed in the scents.” I smiled when I opened my eyes, “well, it looks like you boys will have fun again tonight with two wolves this time.” I growled out. He smirked at me, “Which ones sir?” I could see the excitement in his eyes. “I can tell the w***e was bleeding a lot, but the only other scent down here is Annabelles, she helped her escape. Now, go find them.” I growled at him.  He smiled and ran out of the room following their scent. I slowly walked down the hall until I reached the very end cell. I had to modify this one, “let- me- out-.” The prisoner hissed. I shook my head, “now why would I want to do a thing like that?” I asked with a growl.  He coughed, “they- will- kill- you.” I watched as he tried to stand but quickly collapsed.  I laughed at him, “you are nothing more than a piece of dragon scum. Who in their right mind would overthrow a perfectly capable leader?” He tried to growl at me but he started to cough instead.  “You- won’t- get- away- with- this- they- will- kill you-” he managed to say through his coughs.  I smiled at him, “too bad, all I have to do is get rid of the stupid wolves that are visiting, then take out the rest of the royal line leaving Galvin open to make his move.” I growled at him.  He looked up at me with a glare, “They- will- stop- you.”  “Nah, I don’t think they will.” I turned on my heel and walked out of the dungeon.   I made my way back up to my office. Once I was there I pulled up the video from last night, I watched as they did what they wanted to her. She is definitely a fighter, I felt my pants grow tight as I watched. I enjoyed when they would record it for me. I wasn’t far into the video when he linked me again, “sir, we have a big problem.”  I huffed in annoyance, “What is it?” How much trouble could two she-wolves seriously be?  “Their scent ends near the guesthouse.” Oh, that was bad. “Do you have a visual on either of them?” I asked as my anger grew. It was a few minutes before he responded, “I can’t see either of them, but their scent leads through the door and it’s stronger, it wouldn’t be from when the house was cleaned.” He said again. “s**t, come back, if they found them we could all be in big trouble. We need to get them and get rid of them. We will come up with a plan.” I growled into the link. “Yes, Alpha.” He said quickly before cutting the link.  I looked at the video again and growled, “I will have you myself before I kill you, whore.”  Jane’s pov I woke to the sound of the wind howling, I looked over and sighed. Zeke is gone for a few weeks with Zac so I knew I had to get up and take over some of his work. Jace normally does a good job on his own, but I would rather do my job as luna than think about missing my mate.  I got up ignoring the black sky and made my way into the bathroom. Once I had done my business and brushed my teeth I quickly dressed in a pair of gray leggings, with a bright pink sports bra, and a white tank top. I walked over to Zeke’s side of the closet and grabbed one of his big hoodies. The hoodie was maroon with a skull on it. I pulled it up to my nose and inhaled his scent. I instantly felt a pain in my chest.  He has only been gone a few days and already I miss more than I can explain. I sighed again and walked out of the closet, I looked outside and saw little flurries floating around in the strong winds where the lights flooded the darkness. “I guess a run is out of the question, guess I am going to the gym.” I said out loud to myself and Chastity.  “Yeah, let’s see who else is working out this morning.” Chastity said as I turned to my bedside table and realized it was only four in the morning. I let out another sigh, “Chas, it’s only four.” I groaned. “Dang, maybe we can run for a bit then get back to sleep?” She said questionly, I shook my head knowing that would not happen. Zeke was gone, Zac and Luca were gone, and Asyra went back to the islands with Endre.  I walked down to the gym, as I neared I could smell Jace’s scent. I entered the gym and tossed my water bottle down on the ground, “Guess I am not the only one having issues sleeping.” I said loudly. He jumped, “geez Jane, what the hell, don’t sneak up on me.” The tension in his voice was very obvious.  My eyes widened in surprise, “Jace what’s going on? You should have heard me coming before I even got here. What’s bugging you?” I asked him. He bent down and grabbed his water bottle off the floor, “nothing, it’s fine.” He said as he made his way towards the door. “Oh no you don’t,” I grabbed his arm, “talk to me. Come on, I am your sister.” I looked deep into his eyes. I narrowed my eyes at him before he let out a sigh and ran his hand through his hair. “I am worried, something big is going on and I can feel it in my bones. Something really isn’t right.” he said, I couldn’t help but agree with him. “I know, you’re not the only one who feels it. I feel it too, so does Zeke, that’s the big reason he decided he needed to go. We need to find Galvin and figure out what is happening before we can do much of anything else.” I said. He rubbed his hand down his face, “I know, we have to wait but it doesn’t mean it’s easy. They should be there some time this morning. Then we will start figuring out what is going on.” He grabbed my hand and gave it a squeeze. “We need to keep this place running smoothly while we wait for everyone's return.” I told him, I knew he was stressed, it’s not easy to keep our large pack running, thankfully our parents took over the pack house for the time being. “I will talk to Zach and see what he suggests, maybe he can give us some pointers on what to do here while we wait.” I nodded my head when I heard footsteps approaching. I looked at Jace confused when I realized it wasn’t feet, I was hearing paws.   I froze and eyed the door, the smell was rotten and I knew that it was a rogue. Jace motioned for me to back up and I shook my head. I closed my eyes and focused on my breathing. I pushed my powers forward and formed two fireballs in my hands.  They stopped just outside of the room, I could hear their heart beating wildly in their chest and their breathing was heavy. I looked to my right and saw Jaces wolf next to me, he was crouched down ready to pounce. I heard a growl coming from the hallway and then a blur of brown running past the door.  Jace took off in an instant and I was right behind him, “Jace, when I say drop, you drop.”  “Yes, Luna.” He said in a firm voice.  We ran another thirty meters and saw the turn coming up in the corridor, “drop.” I shouted through the link.  He did as he was told and I threw one large fireball. I didn’t want to hit the wolf, I wanted to slow it down for Jace to get it. Thankfully my plan worked, Jace jumped on the brown wolf and successfully tackled it to the ground. I ran up and the rogue snapped at me. “How the hell did you f*****g get in here?” I hissed at the wolf, I grew vines and wrapped it around the rogue caging it in.  “Shift.” Jace said and the wolf growled in response and didn't obey, it just snickered at him.  I shook my head and walked forward glaring at the rogue, “SHIFT.” My authoritative voice boomed through the halls echoing, within seconds the rogue had begun to shift.
