Chapter 1
Arias eyes were focused on the wall in front of her until a hand is waved in front of her face. “Hello, are you even listening Aria?” Her twin sister Amira stood in front of her with her arms crossed over her chest and she was glaring.
Even though they were twins they were pretty different when it came to looks. Amira had pin straight blonde hair that went to her mid back, eyes that were a pale Ivey blue color, a straight nose and a curvy body. Aria on the other hand had a button nose, full lips, copper hair that fell in ringlets down to her butt and she was thin in comparison to her sister, but the most unique thing about her was her eyes. She was born with heterochromia so that meant her eyes were two different colors and she used to get bullied for it, one was a deep brown and the other was blue.
“Sorry, I had zoned out, what were we speaking about?” Aria asks this and she looks at her sister as she chewed on her lip gently, a habit she had gotten when she was younger. “I just need to know if I should go with the blush or the paper rose.” She says this hurriedly and looks at Aria, expecting an immediate response and choice from the girl. “Sorry, which is which.” Aria asks this out of confusion and Amira groans before holding up two fabric pieces. “You’re dumb, and blind, really really blind.” She says this quickly before holding up a fabric chunk. “This is the blush,” then she holds up the other one just as quickly. “This is the paper rose.” She says this and then holds the two swatches against her arm to Aria could see them against her complexion. “I think you should go with the paper rose.” Aria nods as she says this, it looks the nicest with her skin tone in her opinion.
“Really? I- erm.. I’ll ask Damon as well.” Amira says this as she walks off to get her cell phone. “Then why even ask me? Also Damon is out in the field, there’s tension with the Moonstone pack, I doubt he’ll be in the mood to pick fabric of all things.” Aria grumbled this and Amira just shoots her an ugly look. “I’m his mate. He’ll make time to talk to me.”
The fabric swatches were for her sisters Luna ceremony with her mate. Which so happens to be Damon, or as everyone in their small village knows him, Aria’s recently made ex boyfriend. The whole way that they broke up was a crazy story which all happened on the twins eighteenth birthday.
Aria had woken up early the day of her eighteenth birthday and she was currently downstairs awaiting her boyfriend to take her to school, just like she did every day up until this point. She had swapped out her usual red hoodie and skinny jeans for a red sundress that flowed out at the waist, she wore matching flats and her curly hair was pulled up into a pony tail with a few pieces hanging down to frame her face. A knock finally landed on the front door and Aria urgently runs to the door before stopping and smoothing out her dress. This was it. She was going to open this door and her boyfriend would breathe in and they would know that they were each other’s mate, there was no other possibility. Right?
She rips open the door and she smiles up at Damon who was dressed in a dark blue tshirt and black jeans, but her smile drops when he sniffs the air and pushes past her, a bit roughly. Her eyes instantly follow him as he bounds up the stairs to Amira who was just taking the first step, she was wearing a tight light pink dress and white wedges, her blond hair down loose around her shoulders. Arias eyes prick with tears as she watches her boyfriend of three years tilt her twins face up and place a kiss upon her lips. “My mate.” He had muttered once they parted.
Ever since then it’s been painful to see them together, to have to ride with them every morning, now in the back seat watching them hold hands and share kisses once parked. She had to deal with her sister rubbing the fact that Damon was HER mate in her face over and over again for months, until they finally graduated school and Aria could hide away. Hide away from the embarrassment and the pain she felt for still loving Damon. But now, Damon and Amira were planning their Luna ceremony seeing as Damon was the alpha of their pack. They would mark each other in three weeks time and their relationship would be sealed forever, nothing could ever break the bond once it occurred.
“Hey Aria?” Amira’s voice snaps her back to the present and the copper haired girl blinks back tears that were about to fall and she looks over at her sister. “Yeah?” Her sister was standing, leaning against the kitchen counter with her phone in her hand. “Can you try and call Damon? I can’t get through to him.” She says this and places her phone on the counter. “You’re his mate, why would I have any more luck getting through to him?” Aria says this and Amira just shrugs. “Please, I know you guys are close friends still, just please just this once.” She pleads this and Aria just rolls her eyes. “Fine.”
Aria gets up with her phone and she walks off, heading upstairs to her bedroom seeing as she didn’t like to use the phone in front of people unless it’s an emergency. She dials in Damon’s number and she gets into her room as it begins to ring. She never spoke to Damon unless it was communicating to him for her sister, she had nothing to say and being around him would just bring more hurt feelings into her life that she really doesn’t need right now. All she can really do is hope she finds her mate and the pain goes away, but what if she doesn’t have a mate? What does she do then?
“Hello?” A tired sounding Damon mumbles this through the phone and Arias heart skips a beat just hearing it. It was the same voice she would fall asleep to just three months ago. She shakes her head to rid of the thought before it could bring unwanted emotion over her. “Hey, Uhm it’s me Aria.. I was just calling to make sure you are okay seeing as Amira couldn’t get through to you for some reason.” She says this as calmly as she could. “Oh yea, I was actually just about to call her and then I was going to call you, but you beat me to all of that so I guess you can fill her in.” He says this and Aria tilts her head to the side in confusion. “Fill her in on what?” She asks this and she can hear him let out a nervous chuckle on the end of the phone.
“The Lycan king, King Ezrian is coming to our village. The situation with the Riverstone pack has escalated and we don’t have the numbers to stay her and fight. I need you and Amira to go to the pack house and get their living accommodations set up, they will be here for a while. And also get the great hall ready for a dinner, I’m sure they will be famished from their travels.” Damon says this and Arias mouth falls open. “The Lycan king is coming.. HERE?! Tonight?!” Aria says this in complete shock, there was going to be royalty here in a few hours and her and Amira had to get everything ready. Damon sighs through the phone and then laughs softly. “Come on, keep up.” He shakes his head gently. “I just really need you to be with Amira tonight and make sure she’s dressed.. appropriately.. and acts appropriately with the guests, I’ll be back tomorrow, the pack and I just have to get everything cleaned up out here.” He says this and Aria nods slight although he can’t see her. “Alright, I’ll fill her in and I’ll get all of the arrangements started. Thank you for letting me know, bye Damon.” She says this and then hangs up the phone, not awaiting his goodbye.
She instantly turns on her foot and heads down stairs to where her sister was pinning one of the two fabric pieces to a cork board that says ‘selections’ on it. It was the one that Aria said would look the best, and it kind of made the girl happy. “So we have to put off the Luna planning for a bit.” Aria says this and her sister instantly snaps her head to look at her. “No! We can’t! It’s only in three weeks and I need it to be perfect!” She shouts this and Aria covers her ears seeing as her sister gets higher in pitch the louder she gets.
“Amira, the reason we can’t plan right now is because the Lycan king and his pack are coming to stay in the village. Damon asked that we go to the pack house and get the living accommodations set up for the king and his men, I think that’s a bit more important right now.” Aria says this and looks at her sisters face after a moment and it’s open in shock.
“Oh my god. The Lycan king will be here? Do you think that because of the Luna ceremony happening soon he would stay to see it happen?” She asks this and bites her lip gently as she thinks. “Possibly? I don’t know, I just know that the situation with the Moonstone pack is getting worse and Damon has them coming as reinforcements. So if we’re all alive by then, yea I’m sure he’ll stay.” Aria laughs softly and Amira shrugs it off. “It’ll be so cool to have a king at the ceremony, could you imagine the look on Lilly’s face? “ she gushes this and Aria resists the urge to roll her eyes at her sister. Only Amira would think about rubbing it in her Ex best friends face.
Amira and Lilly were originally best friends, no one could separate them. Lilly was a year older though so when she turned eighteen and she found her mate her abandoned Amira. Her mate was the alpha of a near by ally pack so she was that packs Luna. After a few months though she tried to reconnect to Amira. She even invited Amira to her Luna ceremony, but when the physical invitation came in through the mail Amira destroyed it, vowing that Lilly just wanted her to go in order to brag. But here she is now, inviting Lilly just to brag and now that there might be a Lycan king present it was the best opportunity Amira could have asked for.
“Anyways Amira, we need to head to the pack house to get it ready for when their pack arrives.” Aria says this and Amira snaps back from her fantasy of rubbing the royal figure in Lilly’s face. “Alright let’s do this!” She says this and heads out of the small house the two sisters share.
This was going to be a long day.
