She peered through the c***k in the door and saw Raymond and Irene sitting on the sofa.
"Raymond, we're so grateful you let the project go to Williams Group! Rest assured, we will not disappoint you!" Mark's voice was clearly ingratiating.
Raymond said nonchalantly, "Mr. Williams, you're welcome. Irene said that you have been good to her. It's just a project, nothing much."
"Yes, yes, yes!" Mark immediately chimed in. "You and Irene are fated to be together! As for Serena, don't worry. Whatever decision you make, I guarantee she won't raise a single objection!"
Their words pelted like hailstones.
Serena felt her heart suddenly turn cold, and the next moment, it was shattered, making it hard to breathe.
She had always thought her father would at least consider their father-daughter bond, but now she realized that in the face of interests, her insignificant grievances meant nothing.
"Ms. Williams?" Her assistant softly called out when she remained motionless.
This call startled the people inside, and Serena took a deep breath and pushed the door open to enter.
"You're here, just in time. There's something I need to tell you. The position of deputy general manager of the project department, let Irene have it."
Mark's tone was as indifferent as if he were talking about something trivial.
Serena's heart sank abruptly. She did intend to talk to her father about resigning and going abroad, but she never imagined that the position she had fought for over seven years would be handed over to Irene as if it were a casual gift.
Back then, right after she graduated, to keep up with Raymond, she gave up her love for oil painting and joined Williams Group, gritting her teeth.
Starting from the bottom, she worked late into the night revising plans, managing projects, and negotiating with clients. For a full seven years, she finally earned her position as Deputy General Manager of the project department and earned the respect of everyone in the company.
"Why should I?" Serena's voice trembled uncontrollably.
Raymond spoke first, "Irene has a Ph.D. in Business Administration from a prestigious university. Isn't she more qualified than you, just an undergraduate, to be the deputy general manager?"
Serena's face turned pale instantly. Looking at the three people in front of her, she felt it was both absurd and tragic.
"What if I say no?" Her voice was small but carried an unusual stubbornness.
"I am the president of the company and have the authority to make personnel appointments and dismissals."
Mark's tone turned icy as he directly dialed the assistant's number. "Announce that Serena is removed from her position as deputy general manager of the project department, and Irene will take over."
As soon as the call ended, Irene hesitated, then spoke softly, "Mr. Williams, I don't have management experience. Maybe Serena should continue, and I can start from the ground up."
"No need, I trust your ability." Raymond reached out to ruffle her hair, his tone was indulgent. "Besides, I'm here to help you."
Mark immediately chimed in, his face beaming with smiles, "With Raymond's support, there's nothing to worry about."
Irene looked at Serena, unable to hide the smile on her lips. "Serena, I'll have to trouble you with the handover work."
The cozy scene among the three was like a needle, piercing deeply into Serena's eyes.
Feeling suffocated, she turned around and quickly walked out of the office, not wanting to stay a second longer.
Afterwards, Irene followed Mark's secretary to complete the onboarding procedures.
Serena returned to her office to organize the handover documents.
Unexpectedly, Raymond followed her in.
