Kael POV
The moment I walked through the front door, my mother came rushing toward me and hugged me tightly. Then she suddenly drew back and whacked me in the chest.
"Ouch!!" I screamed, grabbing her wrist to block her next hit.
"Why are you so stubborn, Kael." She said when I let her hand go. "Your father was so mad that you abandoned the party last night, and he… You have forced his hands, Kael."
Feeling a sense of annoyance mixed with worry, I saw the anxious look on my mother's face and asked, "I forced his hands to do what?"
Her gaze darted away from me, and she kept her silence for a while before muttering, "He…"
The moment I saw the look of hesitation in her eyes, I knew exactly what he did because he had threatened me countless times with the same remark every time I turned down an omega.
"f***k!" I mumbled, rushing past my mother.
"Kael, please don't offend your father or fight with him anymore!" My mother cried out.
Ignoring her words, I ran upstairs, rushed down the hall, and stormed into my father's study, "What the hell have you done?!"
"I got you a mate." My father casually uttered from behind his desk.
Those words didn't come as a shock to me, and I lashed out, "The hell you did!"
"Watch your tone with me, boy!" My father mumbled as his expression darkened.
Pissed, I didn't care about the fact that he was in his alpha state and shouted, "You don't find others' mate for them. It's supposed to be their responsibility!"
"Well, you are failing miserably at that, and having a disappointment as a son is not very entertaining, so I went ahead and fixed your problem!" My father uttered, raising his voice.
Here we go again! The fact that I can not find my mate like he did when he was young has been my father's biggest disappointment in me, and he doesn't hesitate to throw that in my face a couple of times daily.
"Well, wherever you found her from, take her back because my mark will not be hers to bear!" I uttered, keeping my eyes fixed on his harsh gaze.
"It's Chloe," My father said, looking so fuc.king proud of himself.
"The Luna of the Rustic blood moon pack?"
"Yep,"
"That ruthless bi.tch!"
"Yes!"
The fact that he was casually saying it like his words didn't have deadly consequences had me just dumbfounded and mad as f***k.
"Even if it's Chloe, I don't give a sh.it! Tell her that I am not interested!" I uttered, feeling strongly about my words.
My anger was not about the fact that he went behind my back and arranged something this shitty… well, it's kind of about that. But it's also about the truth that this will become a hindrance between Jetta and I relationship.
We both already have a bumpy start, and I am hoping for better days for us, but this is just going to become another bizarre setback.
"If you could stand so low to sleep with human females, you can swallow your damn pride and accept Chloe because I know damn well that you are never going to find your mate!" My father said, flipping over a page of his newspaper.
"What?!" I mumbled in confusion.
"Oh, stop playing dumb with me, Kael. I know about your little scandalous s**x habits with humans, and you know that that is forbidden!"
"It's the twenty-first century. No one gives a sh.it about the old days' absurd rules!"
"You better watch your tongue! People are whispering, boy, and you know others have their eyes on the leadership of this pack. We can not give them a reason to create inner conflict among us!"
Frustrated, I glared at him, knowing that if I don't stop this nonsense now, it would escalate. So I met his cold eyes and let out, "I found my mate last night."
Immediately, my father closed his newspaper, resting it on his desk, and mumbled, "Which omega is she?"
"She is a striking beauty, but not an omega. A human will be the right term for her." I said, noticing his face hardening deeper and darkening with every passing second.
After a couple of quiet seconds, my dad violently flipped the table, causing it to fly in the air before it slammed against the wall, shattering into pieces that flew around the room.
Suddenly, the door opened, and my mother rushed inside, crying, "Kael, you are bleeding."
"Talk some sense into your husband!" I said, rubbing the blood off my cheek.
Casting her angry eyes on my father, my mother frowned and shouted, "Luther, why do you want to kill our only child!"
"Your useless son is talking nonsense! How do you expect me to react!" My father yelled, shaking his finger at me. "He claims that his mate is a human, and he found this so-called girl last night!"
Slowly, my mother looked back at me, shaking her head, and then mumbled, "Please tell me it isn't true, Kael."
"It's true, moth…" I muttered, pausing when she smacked me hard in the jaw as tears settled in her eyes.
Their behavior didn't come as a shock to me because I knew the rules. To avoid conflict and bloodshed, our species should stay away from the humans, and keep our identity hidden, blending with them, but not mating with them.
"Don't do this to my poor heart, Kael." My mother cried, clenching her chest.
"I wish I could. But I am being honest. She's the one, mother. I can not stop thinking about her. It's like everything in me is drawn to this girl." I let out, only to get another slap to the face from my mother.
"Stop acting insane, Kael! Your father had always seen you as a disappointment, but me… I never in a million years believe that you will be one."
"Mama…"
"Shut up, Kael! Even after your father told me about your inappropriate ways with the humans, I forced myself not to believe it! But for you to be this bold, I am highly disappointed in you, son!"
"Please understand, mama…"
"It's Chloe or no one else. She's an independent and fierce leader of her pack."
"I am sure that she is. But it's not her. My mate is not Chloe, mama, and I could not swallow my pride and be with her."
Seeing a drop of tears roll down my mother's face broke my heart, and yet, I knew that there was nothing I could do to ease her pain.
So this is it. The effect of the bond between an alpha and his mate. Willingly, I am hurting my family just for a girl I only met last night and have known for a couple of hours.
"I wish you didn't give birth to this one, Zina." My father blurted out, sounding so disappointed as he glared at me. "It's better to be childless than have a son like him."
For once, I held back my tongue, knowing that I had no words to make them feel better. Jetta was mine, and after twenty-nine years of being without her, I don't want to spend the rest of my life doing the same, knowing that she exists.
"Get out of my sight before I kill you!" My father shouted, clenching his fist tightly.
As I turned to leave, my mother grabbed my wrist and cried softly, "Don't do this to me, Kael."
"I will be at my place," I mumbled without looking back at her. "If you miss me, you are welcome to visit."
When I felt her finger slip from around my hand, I held my breath, feeling a dull ache in my chest. Then after she finally let go, I walked out of the room and headed out of the mansion.
"Kael!" Velcro shouted, approaching me as I opened my car door.
When he reached me, he took one look at my face and opened the passenger door, getting into the front seat of my car.
Sighing, I got behind the steering wheel and drove off, leaving the fence, frustrated about how I left things with my parents.
"So, you and Chloe…" Velcro mumbled.
"Not happening," I said, clutching onto the steering wheel to stop myself from losing it completely.
"Dude!"
"Don't start!"
As the next in line for leadership of our pack, Velcro is supposed to be my beta because he and I have known each other since we were cubs.
For most parts, he has always had my back, and when he called me this morning, it was to let me know that things didn't seem alright at the mansion, and my parents were arguing.
"If you can't find your mate, Kael, accepting Chloe will be beneficial to you, like seriously bro." Velcro let out. "Firstly, the position she holds in her pack will…"
"I have found her… my mate. I met her last night." I said, keeping my gaze on the road, even though I could feel Velcro's eyes glue to me.
"What! Bro! And you are just telling me! What the hell, man!... Who is the lucky lady?"
"She's a human."
The car immediately went silent, and for a while, it stayed that way. Then I heard Velcro sigh heavily before mumbling, "How could you f***k both of us up this bad, Kael!"
