You know the feeling when you meet someone and they and you just bond immediately and become inseparable over the years. That's mine and Elle's friendship story.
My father took me to a boring appointment when I was young after my mother's death, and the partners he was meeting were Elle's parents, and I was just five at that time.
The moment I met her, I saw a lasting friendship in her kind eyes, and I realized that I was right when she took me by the hand and softly uttered in a sweet tone, "Do you want to play with me?"
Looking at her mad face now, she is still the same Elle, but more rebellious and ass-kicker, and I couldn't adore her even more.
"What happened last night? How did you go from escorting the devil's daughter to going missing?" Elle asked, dropping the bat to her side. "I called, and you weren't answering any of my calls."
"I lost my purse and, unfortunately, my phone was in it," I mumbled, feeling hesitant to tell her the whole truth.
After being quiet for a while, Elle mumbled, "What happened last night, Jet?"
Walking over to her bed, I sat at the edge of it, lowered my gaze to her purple rug, and mumbled, "Ara's so-called partners were men she hired to assault me."
"That bit.ch!!" Elle shouted.
Her reaction was understandable because she was super protective of me, like a mother bear, even though she was younger than me… twenty-two years old, to be exact.
When I realized that Elle was extremely defensive of me, I couldn't help believing that my mother had manifested our friendships.
Her tone came out worried and shaking when she asked, "Please tell me that her plan didn't succeed. Tell me that that b***h didn't get her way and hurt you, because I swear, Jet, I will f***k her up if she did!"
Without thinking, I raised my gaze, staring at the look of rage in her eyes, and mumbled, "She kind of did…"
"f***k!" Elle screamed, tears swelling in her eyes, rolling down her cheeks.
"But it's not what you think!"
"Okay, then what happened?"
Watching her body shiver, I felt a bit worried and patted the seat beside me, mumbling, "Come and sit before you pass out.
When Elle finally gave in to my request and sat down, she held my hand as I mumbled, fighting my urge to sob, "I escaped and got help from a stranger."
It grew silent between us as Elle stared at Kael's shirt on me, and I could guess what was going on in her head from the anger in her eyes as she let out, "That Dickhead! Did he force himself on you?!"
"No! No, he kind of did not. But I did lose my virginity to him." I mumbled, hanging my head in shame.
"Is that what you wanted… to have your first time with him?"
"No. You know it has always been Ace who I wanted to give my virginity to after our wedding."
"Right,"
The way she said her last word made me hesitate for a moment, knowing that the three people in my life that Elle didn't like were Debbie, Ara, and Ace.
It's not like he wronged her or me. But she said that she dislikes Ace because he's only with me because it's what his parents want and that, I desire to be loved truly with no condition attached.
But I am also a hypocrite, because that is the same reason I am with him even though I like him. Ace is decent, he treats me nice, and respects me. It would be silly not to like a guy like him.
"So, this new dude, if he didn't force himself on you, then why would you sleep with him, Jet?" Elle mumbled, sounding more confused than disappointed.
"Because… I don't know, Ell. One thing led to another, he told me to leave his room, but I didn't, and then he lifted me and took me to his bed, but I didn't push him away because I…" I let out, pausing when I saw Elle smiling.
Then I giggled nervously and mumbled, "What?"
"You like him," Elle whispered, raising a brow.
"No, I don't. He's obnoxious! Full of himself! Rude! Vain! Stupid! And I think he's in the Mafia or a gang leader!"
"Jet, you like this dude."
"No, I don't!"
Feeling slightly annoyed at myself for raising my voice at her, I pouted at her and whispered, "Okay, I am a tiny bit attracted to him. But I think he's a freak!"
"How?" Elle mumbled, looking impatient as she focused on my eyes.
"He kept talking sh.it like, 'I am his now."
"Possessive, I see."
"Very! The dude even promised to take care of me, and treat me well. How he will never allow me to lack anything and my wish will be his desire, and he doesn't even know my last name."
"That is fuc.king creepy."
"Right?!"
Both of us kept quiet for a while, and I bit my bottom lip, annoyed over the fact that memories of Kael were still very much alive in my mind because I didn't want him living in my head rent-free and complicating things when Ace gets back home.
"Was he good… in bed?" Elle whispered, pressing her lips in a firm line as her eyes darted nervously.
"Let's just say, I couldn't walk afterward, and he didn't even climax." I subconsciously mumbled, burying my face into my palms when I realized what I had said.
"Well, damn!"
"Don't say a word."
"I did not."
After we sat in silence for a while, I gave Elle a weak smile, and when she asked, "So what's going to happen now?"
"You mean, between Ace and me?" I mumbled, feeling confused and disheartened. "The wedding is still going to happen. He doesn't need to know about what happened between Kael and me until after the wedding."
"Jet!"
"I know. I hate myself for saying that."
"I am talking about your happiness, Jet. You are not going to be satisfied if you choose that path and as your friend…"
"I can't let my mother down, Ell! I just can't."
"Okay. Okay, I understand."
Waking from the bed, I sniffed, dried my eyes, and mumbled, "I should have a few of my clothes here, right?"
"Yes. They are in my closet." Elle said, looking at me with calmness in her expression, yet her eyes told me that she was sad.
But she didn't understand. Even though I was five when my mother passed, she still mean everything to me, and I would not give Debbie the benefits of damaging her sweat and blood.
Looking down at Kael's shirt, I felt uneasy and mumbled under my breath, "I should rinse off his scent."
As I head into the bathroom, I could feel Elle's eyes on me, but I didn't look back and when inside.
After my quick shower, I came out and met a set of clothes on the bed with sneakers at the bottom of them, on the floor.
Smiling, I looked at Elle, feeling glad that I have a friend like her, and mumbled, "You are literally an angel."
"I know. Now get dressed, and I will fix something for you to eat." Elle said, heading for the door.
But my voice stopped her when I mumbled, "Thank you, but I am full… I ate already."
"This Kael guy doesn't seem to be that terrible now." Elle teased, looking back at me.
"Oh, believe me, he is."
"Oh, he's just so terrible that he got you a new phone."
"What?"
Ignoring buttoning my blouse, I glanced at Elle, and she looked nervous as she mumbled, "I peek into your plastic. Imagine my shock when I saw the brand of phone in it... Since you lose your purse, I assume he bought it for you, right?"
"Yes, and he was the one who drop me off here, so I was wondering…" I mumbled, pausing when I realized how selfish I was about to sound.
"What is it?" Elle asked, looking concerned as she gaze at me.
"Can you move back to your other villa?" I asked hastily, annoyed at myself for doing this to my friend.
"Why?"
"Because Kael knows your house, and I want to erase him out of my life. If he comes here and finds out no one lives here, he will have no other way to find me."
"Jet…"
"I am going to destroy the phone too."
"What?!"
"Please, Elle. You know how hard I have worked. This… Kael can ruin all of that, and I don't want to lose my mother's legacy."
The was a long pause, and Elle looked hesitant as she stared at me. Then she sighed and mumbled, "Sure. I will leave today, and go back home."
Even though I detested myself for this, I smiled and mumbled, "Thank you."
After wearing my sneakers, Elle's ringtone grabbed our attention, and she walked over to her nightstand, picking it up.
Then she looked back at me with a hint of stress on her face as she let out, "It's your dad."
