- PROLOGUE -

They all watched the boy. He didn't seem to care. He kept walking. On and on. Ever forward,like an unknown force was calling him.The rain didn't seem to bother him. The stares didn't seem to phase him. He just kept moving. His eyes were dull but had a crazed alertness to them. Rainwater dropped from his dada hair which was now thick and curly from all the wetness. The only thing that spoke of life was the dark brown overall he wore. And every time he passed a dark corner it turned maroon under the moonlight. The rest of him was gloomy and dark,just as his skin and hair. He walked past a scrawny looking dog. The latter looked up at him, hoping for a meal or maybe a much much unlikely adoption. Nothing happened. The stranger just walked on. And on. And on.Where he was going,no one knew. What he was searching for, perhaps even he did not know.But if they listened closely — ignoring the pat pat of rain drops and the rushing breathes of the cold night's air — they would hear him whisper a word. ‘Dauntless' . . . . . . . . .
