Seraphina's POV.
‘It was a test. They were imprisoned wolves’, my dad scolded with a bit of disappointment in his voice. 'And you failed.’
The last statement brought my whole world crashing down. I trained my whole life for this day, I just couldn't accept defeat like that, I had too do something. I needed to be seen as valuable, someone who is entirely capable to lead.
'Dad, please hear me out’, I begged him, though knowing I was only wasting my time.
'It wasn't intending too lead them hear, I_I had this perfect plan..’, I stammered in an attempt to explain my excuse for a plan to him.
My dad stood unfazed, not hiding the fact that he was disappointed in me. Something I had known all my life, and still hoped there will be a difference some day.
“Kill her.”
What? The world seemed to stop; air grew still, the birds and animals of the woods stopped their crescendoing chants and my heart stopped for a moment when I heard those two words. Slowly, I turned my head to look at my father who stood with six others on the hill over-looking the training ground. He looked small from where he stood – dressed completely in black and his eyes staring right at me. I have looked like a small deer to him. A small deer who was surrounded by merciless wolves.
“Is this a joke?”, I asked to no one in particular.
The fierocious charge of the six guards towards me, gave me my answer.
“This was no joke. He really meant it”.
I stole once last look at the guards and my dad, as I transformed and sprinted straight into the forest.
I could feel and hear them running behind me. This wasn't a test, it was survival of the fittest. I wasn't running to proof myself, I was running for my life.
I had no idea where I was running to, the only thing on my mind was to get to safety.
Even if that safety was in enemy territory.
I hasten my pace, noticing a large fence in front of me, that was my escape route. I only had to worry about defending myself against what was behind the fence, not some guards who are hell bent on killing me.
'Ah’, I landed on the wet ground beyond the fence, it turns out I had underestimated the height of the fence and the level of my strength. The guards wasted no time scaling the fence after me, hungry for murder.
The sudden loud sound of thunder threw me into a confused state.
I sat up suddenly, which a force I couldn't understand.
“What had happened?”
Looking around, I found myself surrounding by all the guards, all unconscious. 'What happened to them?’ My inner wolf quickly became alert sensing danger. I was hopefully one day going to be an alpha, there was no way anyone could find me in such a vulnerable state.
Noticing someone staring at me, I raise my head slowly to look at my spectator.
He looked…different? For some strange reason, I just couldn't take my eyes of him, our eye contact seemed to linger for hours. His golden amber eyes glowed in the forest and the rain wasn't doing enough justice in portraying his muscular figure.
'I want him!’, I heard my subconscious self say. The thought wasn't one, I could easily get rid off, it kept singing in my mind.
The unstable and rapid beating of my heart as well made matters completely worse. Though I may or may have nkt escaped death, that didn't matter to me, I just wanted to be in the arms of this strangely strong wolf. I couldn't understand why I was feeling this way, it wasn't normal.
Then suddenly it hit me. 'This hot stranger is my mate!’
I couldn't count the number of times I had overhead fellow wolves talk about the mating feeling. It was exactly as they had described; 'the feeling of home, love and safety.’ The excitement on their faces and the enthusiasm in their voice was something I could never forget.
Envy had been the only thing on my mind whenever I heard them discussing; wondering when it will be my turn. Finally, my time had come, I had found my mate!
The atmosphere was so intense, I could feel it, we could both feel it.
The feeling in my chest was definitely consensual, I could tell through those auburn-green eyes of his.
His consistent piercing gaze made me feel self conscious, an emotion I had never felt before.
In my ridiculous attempt to make sure I looked okay, I noticed I was naked, like completely naked. I raised my hands to my chest, hopefully to cover any modesty I have left .
Various thoughts and questions began flooding my mind. 'Who is this man?’ 'How is he so fast?’ 'Is he helping me?’
My subconscious kicked in, warning me that I was close to enemy territory.
I took a closer look at him and instantly knew that he was a rouge. The easy he was dressed and the hunger in his eyes. In a flash, he killed all the guards not showing even an ounce of mercy.
I quickly upon my mouth to yell and stop him, but not a sound came out. Even though they were trying to kill me, I didn't think they deserved that kind of death, after all there were only following orders. And they were my people, I should protect them, not lead them into danger.
After he dealt with the last victim, he turned sharply to me and moved closer.
Instinctively, I started moving back at the same time preparing to transform and fight back. I knew running was pointless since I was tired and couldn't compare with his skills.
Which each step he took towards me, the more relaxed and peaceful I felt. But I wasn't one to let my guard down especially to a rouge. Rouges were evil and spiteful wolves, whatever emotions I felt wasn't important.
With calculated steps, I threw a punch immediately he was within arms reach. With great precision, he blocked my palms easily in his palms, while smirking.
'You call that a punch?’, he asked sarcastically.
'Oh, his voice was divine’.
But for some reason, his statement seemed to annoy me. I used the little strength I had in me to escape his grip. Without thinking twice, I transformed and was on my way. I had no idea want he wanted and I wasn't going to wait to find out.
I was sure he didn't take two steps away from where he stood before be caught me.
'Let me go, you filthy rouge’. Those words seemed to open the door to open his gate of hell. Within seconds, he pinned me to the wall, his claws bearing deep into my neck.
'All it takes is just a little more effort and I would break your neck’, he whispered to me. I could see his veins about to pop out of his necks and hands. ‘You better watch your mouth’
He released his grip on my neck and I fell to the ground coughing and gasping for air.
'Are you okay?’, he asked with concern in his eyes as he placed his hands on my shoulders.
“What is deal exactly? One minute he tries to kill me and the next, his asking how I was.”
I brush his hands off my shoulders in disgust and stand up rapidly. That seemed to annoy him again, as I could almost see steam coming out of his nose.
He pulled me towards himself, holding my hands in place by my side. I didn't think my heart which was about to burst, would survive this moment so I tried to wriggle free.
‘Stay still’, he ordered. 'I need to confirm something’. As if under a spell, I automatically stood still, even going as far as holding my breadth. This position was so compromising and I wasn't comfortable at all.
I was sure he felt the same way I did, so why wasn't he saying anything. With each rain drop that fell on my skin, felt like a million years and I wasn't sure how long I could take it.
I struggled to meet eye contact with him, noticing this, he use his fingers to raise my chin up. I immediately look him in the eyes, and I couldn't read him.
It looked like he was longing, then disbelief, then anger and then longing again.
I tried to touch his cheeks as if to say everything was okay, but he immediately broke free.
He quickly turned his back to me,
'Impossible’ he yelled out. I can't be a weakling. 'I don't have a mate’
