Chapter 2:One Last Plea

816 Words
POV: Devon The pack is excitedly buzzing about my brothers, Grayson and Tristin's 23rd birthday. Grayson and Tristin are twins. Today is April 9th, and possibly their last birthday we'll ever get to celebrate joyfully. They were cursed as children. No one knows why or by whom. We've been looking but no can figure it out. We have been searching for a way to break their curse for years. Sadly, we haven't had any luck. This year is our last hope before the curse becomes permanent and we lose them. Music hums in the background, being drowned out by all the chatter around. It's been a busy day. The pack partied all day. I can't blame them though, this is possibly the last time. I haven't been in much of a party mood today. My focus is on the demise of my brothers. One could say I've been grumpy all day. "Hey Dev, come have a drink with us." Grayson waves me over to his group. I groan in annoyance because a certain somebody is hanging on his arm. Aspen grates on my nerves. She's one of my brother's playthings. The twins sleep around a lot. They don't see any consequences of this since they're unable to find their mate. The curse won't allow them to. I walked over to them, and Tristin handed a shot to me. "Cheers!" Everyone clinks their glasses together. "Babe, I got you something so special for your birthday. I just know you're going to love it." Aspen's voice grates on my nerves. Grayson smirks. "I bet you do, but that's for later." Gross. "So where's Viv? I figured she'd be here by now." Wes asks. I roll my eyes because I'm not sure which one is worse, Aspen or Vivian. Vivian is Tristin's girl. She and Aspen are best friends, can you believe it? "Oh, she's preparing Tristin's gift." Aspen winks at Tristin. "She should be here soon, though," Aspen continues. "Maybe you two should focus on better things tonight. You do know midnight is in two hours, right?" I remind my brothers. The second the clock strikes midnight, all bets are off. My brothers turn into wild feral wolves. They have no control over themselves, and neither do their wolves, Dash and Max. They become a violent beast. "s**t! It's that late already. Thank bro, for reminding us. I need to go find Viv." Tristin says leaving in search of finding his girlfriend with one thing on his mind. "Yeah, Asp, you should spend the next hour and a half showing me this present you got me." Grayson drags Aspen away with him. "Why are you always such a buzzkill? Would it kill you to relax for once?" Weston asks. "When someone steps up and stops breezing through life, then I'll relax. Until the curse is gone, I will chill." I hate that everyone acts like this isn't a big deal. Sometimes it feels like they've all given up and accepted their fate. I haven't. I'm still searching for a way to save my brothers. "Hey, you don't think I want to stop this from happening? I do more than anything, but sometimes you have to stop and enjoy the time you have with them in case there is no cure." Wes argues back. "They're my f*****g brothers. I'm not supposed to be the Alpha of this pack." I snap. Come this time next year, if the curse isn't broken, I will become the alpha of the Shadow Lake Pack. This is not something I want. My older brothers are supposed to be the alphas of this pack, not me. My job as their brother is to stand by their side and step up whenever I need to. I'm not supposed to replace them. I storm away from Weston, needing some air. Outside the pack house is a marble statue of Selene, the Moon Goddess. Many pack members come here to pray to her. In a last desperate plea to save my brothers, I kneel in front of the statue of the goddess I worship. "Moon Goddess, please guide me to the answers I seek. How do I break the curse? I beg you for a piece of your wisdom." I plead A soothing buzzing swarms inside my head. It makes me feel at peace. "Worry not, my child. All you must do is find a girl by the name of Emery Grace Farley in the New Moon pack. She must kiss them every night just before midnight to tame their beasts. Then on the last day they must mate. Only she can heal them and set them free of the evil that lies within." Moon Goddess? The most soothing voice enters my mind. Could this be? Has she truly answered my call? Emery Farley? I must find this girl. She is the key. The answers to my prayers.
