Chapter 5: Mates?

1301 Words
POV: Emery The moon shines bright in the night sky, illuminating the road. Sierra paces in the back of my head from nerves. We're beginning to feel uneasy due to being close to a pack that is not our own. Devon and I have sat in silence the entire ride. It obvious that things are a little awkward. If I'm being honest I'm not sure how to feel about this deal we've made. I think I'm more nervous about the kiss. I've never kissed anyone before. Will I have to kiss them, are do they kiss me? Will I be good at it? I guess I'll be getting plenty of practice in. Maybe my future mate will appreciate the practice. Then I have to mate them at the end of the year. I don't even want to think about that. Two men!? Alphas are known for their s****l endurance. Mating with two alphas would be on a whole different level than I think I'll ever be ready for. Although something about the thought of being with two men intrigues me. There's a whole year to prepare myself for that. Suddenly, I become all too aware I'm in another pack. Omegas have a heightened sense of their surroundings. We're the lowest rank, which puts us at many disadvantages. It's only natural for Omegas to have this advantage to protect themselves. Every hair on my body stands up painfully aware of where I am. "Relax, you'll do the transfer ceremony tomorrow," Devon says, breaking the long silence. "I didn't realize I was becoming an official member," I state the obvious. I was preparing myself for this feeling all year long. "Yeah, this is stressful enough, you shouldn't be in any more discomfort than you already are," Devon explains. I appreciate the thought. It helps. "Listen, I'm going to warn you, Grayson and Tristin are going to be a little aggressive." Sierra purs at the sound of their names. Odd. "But if this works, like I'm hoping, they should calm down after you kiss them. I will be there the entire time." He warns me. I nod my head, not saying anything. I don't know what to say. This is all a little nerve-wracking. I watch out the window, taking a few long deep breaths to calm myself. "What happens if this doesn't work like you think it will?" A horrible thought crosses my mind of the worst possible scenario that could happen. Devon sighs. "I don't know. I'm out of options." He answers, but this wasn't the answer I was looking for. "I meant what happens to me?" I clarify my question. "Oh, you go back home. I will still keep our deal and pay your aunt's medical bills. I mean you came all this way and tried, right?" My body relaxes with relief at his answers. "Thank you for paying the bill. I didn't know what I was going to do." I admit. "Shadow Lake isn't like New Moon. Omegas are paid fairly for their work in the pack." Devon says. Each pack is different, with a different set of rules. It does surprise me, though, because many werewolves see omegas very lowly. The only thing lower than an Omega is a rogue. They don't belong to a pack. They're rebels. I watch as the car drives closer to a huge white mansion with columns lining the front of the house. A statue of Selene stands in a circle of grass. Devon parks the car in front of the house. "Here we are. We should hurry, you have ten minutes before midnight." I didn't realize I'd be kissing them tonight. I nervously get out of the car, following Devon inside. I'm taken aback by the inside of the house. Upon entering the house, the first thing I notice is a double curved staircase with iron and dark wood detailing. The walls are a beautiful pale blue color with white molding. A table stands in the middle of the entrance with a simple white vase. The vase holds a bouquet of roses and carnations. "Devon, is this the girl you were telling us about?" A woman with dark brown hair like Devon's and blue eyes appears alongside a man with brown hair and hazel eyes. "Yes, this is Emery. Emery, these are my parents, Renee and Aiden." Devon introduces. "Hello Emery, it's nice to meet you," Renee says. "H-hello." I stutter nervously. Aiden seems to look me over thoroughly. His gaze makes me feel so small. His aura exudes power. "Let's see if you can tame my boys." He says with a smirk. "Yes, Tristin and Gray will be very annoyed." Devon says. Am I missing something? "Oh, you two are horrible. Just because the girl is an omega doesn't mean anything. Come on, dear, we must hurry." Renee says, taking my hand and leading me through the house. "That's exactly it, dear. Their Alpha egos will be very bruised, having an Omega tame them down a notch." Aiden says to his mate. Whatever confidence I had just went out the window. He's right, Alphas won't take too kindly to being tamed in any way by an omega. What have I gotten myself into? We go down a short set of stairs and down a hallway where two metal doors are parallel to each other. "Open them." Aiden orders the guards. More men, possibly Zetas, come down the hall. The guards open the doors. As they open the doors, I'm wafted by the most intoxicating scent. What is that? I can't tell what exactly the scent is. Sierra becomes antsy, pacing around. My heart beats fast in my chest as two men emerge from the doors. They look alike with blue eyes. One of them has dark brown hair while the other's is a lighter shade of brown. Everything stops. It feels as if the world has stopped turning. My eyes land on two pairs of blue eyes, making my heart skip a beat. "Mate," Sierra says in my mind. Their my mates? I have two mates? "What's going on?" One of them demands. That's when I snap out of the trans. I'm left confused. They do not seem to be affected or realize I'm their mate. What is going on? "Who is this?" The other one asks. They both look to be as confused as I am. "Hold them." Aiden orders the guards. "You'll find out soon enough," Aiden says. Wait, is this who I'm supposed to kiss? My mates? The twin alphas begin to thrash against the guards to get loose. They growl and bare their teeth at them. Their eyes turn pitch black. I'm stunned by this. I've never seen an alpha have pitch black eyes before. "Kiss them. Kiss them now, Emery." Devon pushes me towards them. The alphas look at me like their angry. "Don't you f*****g touch me!" One of them yells at me. I can't help but whimper and feel rejected. "Now Emery!" Devon snaps, noticing my hesitance. I take one last deep breath, mustering up as much courage as I can. I approach one of them and stand on my tippy toes. I pull his face down towards me and give him on kiss, leaving him dazed. The sparks tingle on my skin where I touched him. I repeat the same thing with he other one. An alarm beeps, echoing in the hallway. "Midnight," Renee says, telling me what the alarm is for. "What the f**k just happened?" the twin with the darker hair asks. They both look utterly confused. "Grayson Ronan Sterling, language." Renee reprimands her son. "It worked." Devon sounds happy and astonished. "It did." Aiden agrees, sounding just as astonished as Devon. "Shall we go somewhere more private to talk?" Renee suggests.
