8 HUDSON I nodded at Joey as he walked in and resisted the urge to ask him how his mom was. I hadn’t seen her since I spent the night in her living room and cooked breakfast for their family. She was weird when I left, weirder than normal, and she’d been avoiding me since. At least, I was convinced she was avoiding me.
