CHAPTER EIGHT
I was resting at home with my mother and Robert, after doing the house chores. I lie down on a chair, scrolling through my phone and talking to Robert at the same time and still at the same time I was expecting the CEO'S message.
"So when are you starting work, Helen?" My mother asked, while packing the clothes on the bed.
"I don't know yet, Mom... I'm still waiting for his message" I answered my mother, with my eyes stuck to my phone.
"His message" she asked, with her eyes widened.
"Yes, Mom" I replied, and then continued with what I was doing. I have been refreshing my messages list since, with the thought that the CEO'S message would come in soon.
"I thought you guys have sorted it out already when you told me" she queried.
"Yes, I said so... But he said he would get back to me through his Manager, Mom" I answered her.
"Okay, Helen" My mother said, continuing with what she was doing earlier.
Just then, I looked at Robert who had been watching me for long while beaming at me. We stared into each other's eyes before we burst into laughter.
"Robert... What the hell are you laughing about?" I said, still laughing with tears in my eyes.
"I wasn't the first to laugh... You were the one, big sis" he replied, childishly.
"Oh! Really?" I asked, out of curiosity.
"Yes" he answered me, turning his back to face the window. I knew what that means so I kept quiet for a while before I started tiptoeing to meet him. As I was about reaching his side and pounce on him when my mother called out to me. Robert turned his back at that time and saw me hanging my leg in the air.
"No, Mom" I shouted, furiously
"What, Helen?" she answered.
"See what you caused now... I was about winning this game when you called me. This is a cheat, mom" I screamed while stamping my feet on the ground.
Robert who had been shocked to see me hanging my leg in the air couldn't understand what was going on. Not until I wanted to stretch my hand to him to guide myself from falling to the ground that he grasped what was going to happen next and he ran.
"Robert, come over here" I said but before I knew anything already, I fell to the ground and I shouted "Mom, you have made me lose this game now".
Robert stood from afar, laughing so hysterically at me. I said in my mind "I wouldn't accept defeat" so I rose up fiercely on my feet and chased him around the house. I chased him for like 5mins before I could lay my hands on him.
"Finally!" I screamed and continued "I caught you, Robert". I jumped up excitedly and when I was about raising my hand to slap his buttocks, my mother called me again.
"Helen" my mother called out my name from the sitting room.
"Yes ma... I caught him this time around so let me deal with him for real" I chuckled, while answering her from the corner of the room.
"You have a call, Helen" she shouted.
"No, mom... I'll come over when I am done with him" I screamed at her because I thought it was another prank like the other time so I wouldn't accept defeat this time around again. Just then, a thought struck my mind "What if it is the CEO?" I whispered and I stuck Robert into the bed while wrapping him up with the bedsheet.
"I will come to get you back... You wait for me" I told him, leaving him alone to battle with the bedsheet while I headed towards the sitting room.
"Mom, I am here" I said as soon as I reached the sitting room.
"Have it, Helen... It might be from the CEO" she told me, handing the phone over to me.
"The CEO!" I exclaimed and my mother nodded affirmatively. I quickly collected the phone from her hand. I breathed in and out, before I picked the call up.
"Hello?" I said, giggling over the phone.
"Hello" the caller replied me.
"Yes... Good morning, who am I speaking with please?" I asked the caller while looking at my mother.
"Okay... Am I speaking with Miss Helen?" the caller asked.
I couldn't wait for my head to assimilate the question and I answered as quick as possible 'Yes please, you are speaking with Miss Helen". I uttered, beaming at my mother who is at my front.
"Okay miss... This is the manager to the CEO of..." he replied while I cut him off, saying "Say no more". I couldn't wait for him to finish the sentence as I was already rejoicing and screaming at the top of my voice when I heard the shocking news coming from the phone.
"Hello... This is from the Noble company and we wanted to tell you that we aren't accepting you into the company. We are sorry, madam" he said apologetically.
I looked around and then stared at the ceiling before I spoke out "So is this what you wanted to tell me about that you couldn't text me or have you ever heard somewhere that you can just break this kind of news over a call on phone?". I couldn't wait to listen anymore and I hung up the call. I threw the phone on the chair beside my mother and I sinked into the chair, following the phone.
"Oh Gosh!" I screamed out.
"Helen, take it easy" my mother said to me.
"What the hell did he think he was doing! Why break that kind of news over a call on phone when it is not some kind of Goodnews?" I exclaimed, feeling so hot inside.
"It's okay... That shows how your expectation with the CEO is too high, Helen" she told me, trying to calm me down.
Robert who had been inside the room came out, running to me. He pounced on me and said "Yeah... I caught you back, Big sis". I looked at him and replied him that "I am not in good mood right now, Robert".
He stared at me for a while and then to my mother. He knew already that something happened behind him while he was stuck inside the bed by me but he couldn't point out what it was.
After battling with his thought for a long time, he finally asked and said "What's wrong, Big sis?". I wouldn't talk, I just kept quiet to myself so he turned to ask my mother "What's wrong, mother?".
"Robert" my mother called him and he answered with "Yes ma". She sighed before she continued to discuss with him "There is nothing wrong... It is just that she is not in good mood at the moment". Robert wouldn't believe what my mother said, so he asked further "But we played just now... She was in good mood then so why all of a sudden?".
"Mmm... That should be..." my mother thought for some minutes, trying to remember something and she burst out after she remembered the thing "Yeah... Mood swing".
"Mood swing?" Robert asked.
"Yes, Robert" my mother answered him.
"What's called Mood Swing, Mom?" Robert asked further, out of curiosity.
"Um... The thing is... Mood Swing is when you have a change in mood like your sister..." my mother explained to him, while she pinched me to come back alive from the mood swing because she knew Robert would not leave her so quick.
"Talk, Helen" my mother whispered to me.
"Oh Mom!" I said.
"Don't worry... She will come out from the mood swing if we do this to her" she told Robert and they began to tickle me. I couldn't hold the laughter in and I burst into a deep laughter. "Mom! Robert! Why are you like this?" I screamed out.
"Mom, Big sis is coming out from the Mood Swing" Robert turned to face my mother and he smiled.
Just then he continued tickling more faster and I couldn't hold it in than to laugh. The laughter this time around was so deep as I faced Robert and held his hands. I looked at my mother and cried out "What the hell was that, Mom".
"Mom, Big sis has come out finally from the mood swing. It worked" Robert screamed, grinning from ear to ear while my mother was smiling at us.
"Oh! My darling Robert... It didn't work" I replied him.
"But it did... You came out from the mood swing" he answered me.
"Really? Mom just teased you actually" I said, tickling him back and he began to shout.
We were still playing while my mother was looking at us with smiles on her face when my phone rang again. We both looked at each other and then to the phone. She signaled to me to pick it up that it might be the CEO this time around. Robert who had no idea of what was going on between us, watched us as we displayed.
"You have a call, Big Sis" he said, checking the caller of my phone "But it's a private number" he replied while staring at my phone.
On hearing private number coming from his mouth, I quickly grabbed my phone and stood up to pick the call. But this time around, I tried to comport myself and keep my calm.
"Hello?" I said, waiting for the response from the other side of the caller.
"Hello... Sorry please, am I speaking with Miss Helen?" the caller asked.
"Yes, you are" I answered shortly, not to allow what occurred the other time to happen again.
"Okay. This is from the CEO... You applied for the job of a Bodyguard, right" he asked.
"Um... Yes" I answered, rolling my eyes up while I said in my mind that "I never applied for the job, he was the one that asked me to be his bodyguard so don't miss it up".
"That's nice then. Congratulations, Miss Helen. You've been given the job" he said at the other side of the call.
"Wow! Really?" I said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Yes really... You are asked to resume work right now with immediate effect" he told me.
"Right now?" I asked, with my eyes widened.
"Yes, right now... Bye, Miss Helen" he said over the phone while I replied with "Bye, thank you" and he hanged up the call.
I looked at my mother and then to Robert, suddenly I screamed "I've been called to start the work with immediate effect". They both looked at themselves at the same and they jumped up, hugging me so tightly.
"But Helen, please you need to be careful" my mother said.
"Okay Mom... Let me go and dress up so I can be on my way" I said while walking to my room.
"Big sis, I love you" Robert words echoed in my head and I turned to hug him.
"I love you too, Robert..." I said, while I headed back to the room to dress up.
Within some few minutes time, I came out in a corporate dress. I met Robert and my mother in the sitting room. Then, I walked up to them to check me out before I went outside. They stood up and watched me closely, they replied with "Perfect, you are good to go". I screamed "Yeah Robert! Yeah Mom!" while hugging them so tightly before I strode towards the door and walked out to board a Taxi to the company.
