On their lunch, Sofia went out with Gab as usual. She has no one to take lunch with but only Gab who appreciates her inside the company. They often visited French restaurant but this afternoon they went in a cheap restaurant near the building of Goddard. Just walking distance. They both have problem financially so, they agreed to be thrifty until their first salary. “Everyone on the company was indeed weird,” she said rolling her eyes. It was the fourth day of her working in Goddard and yet she never got a chance to meet new people inside the organization but only Gabriella. She cut the chicken on her plate and embedded the fork on the sliced small part. “Yum!” “Indeed, Sofie, they’re crazy. Samantha, the girl on the human resources department was rolled her eyes to me. She’s impossible, I cannot remember anything bad I did to them. They were acting strange just absolutely different from a normal company I worked before.” Gad sighed. She’s still on grief for losing his father but she knew life was not ends there. She has to live and continue life, find the missing piece of her heart that once she lost when her father died. “And I knew some reason why they were like that.” “Why?” Sofia looked at Gab. “Because of Mr. Demire Goddard,” Gab answered her proudly as if she found something that answers their questions. “He’s muted.” She frowned of what she heard. Apparently, she remembered Demire. As far as she could remember, he wasn’t mute, he’d always nagging her for stupid things she doing. There was no time passed she did not hear his scold. “I don’t think that was the reason,” she said and drinks the cold water on her orange plastic cup. “No, Sofia, our boss is an evil.” There was something wrong on Gab’s eyes that Sofia could not explain. That was unreadable and odd. This was the first time she saw her with these eyes. Sofia paused for a moment and looked away, then looked back to her eyes again. She was thinking if the incomprehensible on her eyes was just an illusion but when she looked back her eyes was in constant emotion. “H-how did you say so?” “I asked him favor yesterday.” “Yesterday?” Gab nodded. “What is it and what happened?” She grasped on the spoon she was holding and stared at Gab curiously. There was a part of her who still bothered and worried that she could not explain why. Gab stopped eating her meal and faced after wiping her lips with a tissue. “Well, Sofia, I tried to ask an advance salary because of my dad’s burial, because I really cannot shoulder the expenses.” Gab’s eyes went teary but she immediately wiped it. “But he didn’t listen to me, I begged but he seemed to be deaf and muted, he’s just staring at me and next thing, he opened the door for me to leave his office.” Everything what she said made her silent. Undecided what word next she could tell her that would not harm her feelings. She blinked twice and looked away. “I’m sorry to hear that.” She closed her palms on the table and faced her again. “And I’m sorry that I can not lend you some, I wish I had some saving.” She sighed over and over again. Sofia felt Gab touched her fist and caressed it. Gab wagged her head. “No, I’m good that I have friend like you. At least I have someone I could tell my problem.” Five o’ clock in the afternoon when Sofia arranged her stuffs on her table and her bag. She’s about to leave cubicle when the door of his office opened and Demire showed up. “Are you leaving?” he asked. Sofia couldn’t answer. She was bothered by the kissing scene last night. “Sofia?” Great, he didn’t call him ‘Ms. Pollyana’ inside the company. She blinked and gazed up at this tall man in front of him. “O-oh, yes, Mr. Goddard.” She faked a smile and hooked up the strap of her bag on her shoulder. “Good bye, Mr. Goddard.” She walked and suddenly remembered what Gab told her about Demire. “Well, Sofia, I tried to ask an advance salary because of my dad’s burial, because I really cannot shoulder the expenses.” “But he didn’t listen to me, I begged but he seemed to be deaf and muted, he’s just staring at me and next thing, he opened the door for me to leave his office.” Was he really an evil? Sofia thoughted and sighed. “Sofia.” When she heard him called her name, goosebumps drew her skin and there was an electricity rose up her body. She immediately faced him. “M-Mr. Goddard?” He still standing in front of the door and staring at her nonchalantly. She couldn’t read his eyes though. “Do you have some business tonight?” His question puzzled her. Business? I don’t have business. She did not answer and bid her lower lip. Thinking what to answer him. Demire groaned and massaged his temple. He knew it, she didn’t understand him that’s why he has receive any reply from him. Stupid!  “Would you like to go out for a dinner? That is if… if it wouldn’t be too much. I mean if you have something to do tonight then I’ll go out alone—” “Okay, Mr. Goddard,” she simply said unbothered as if it was jut nothing. “For sure, Lily won’t go home tonight,” she added talking to herself. When weekends, her friend Lily didn’t sleep on their apartment. If she wouldn’t accept dinner with him tonight, she will end up eating dinner alone. “Alright, let’s go.” He walked on the hallway and she immediately followed him.
