Sofia knocked his door twice. “Come in,” Demire replied her inside his office, biting his fountain pen. It took him too hard to focus his mind with his works but then here she comes again. Holding a tray with a cup of coffee and wearing her confident smile. “Put it down.” Sofia followed what he said. After she placed the cup of coffee on his table she decided not to leave yet. “Do you need anything, Sir?” She usually watching a secretary movie, and they weren’t going out of their boss office without asking anything else they can do before they leave. She wants to be a good at her job. He took a sigh, avoiding his eyes glued again to this woman. “Nothing, just leave. I need silence. I’ll call you if I need anything, don’t bother me if I didn’t say so. Are we clear?” He faced her coldly, that is not what he meant to be but he has to be. She nodded and gulped. “Y-yes, Sir—” “Mr. Goddard,” he emphasized it, nobody calls him ‘Sir’ he does not like what it means for him. A slave or servant— that is not what he wants his employees to call him, just his fake surname. “Now, get out.” Sofia immediately went out his room. She sets her hands on her chest, calming herself to how he treated her today. He was so strange. “He’s not a good boss, I thought he was!” She rolled her eyes and glared at the narra door of his office. She walked back to her cubicle and sat down oh her chair. She has no idea what to do today, nobody was giving her a task or even explain her job, as well about their boss. She seems like a stranger inside the company. Everyone was passing her, not even looking at her. All the employees were busy with their job, she could not hear any noise from them. They were just working quite muted. How can it be possible inside an organization? They seemed working like a robot. A robot programmed, only for work. Nobody was talking about their lunch like what supposedly a friendship inside an organization or a working team. She could not believe what she gone into. “Sofia, right?” Her head turned to her right side as she heard someone talked. “Y-yes, why?” She faced a twenty-seven years old woman, decent with a dark color of curled hair. The woman in front of her gave her a smile. “My name is Gab, Gabriela Luis.” She held her hand to her. Sofia accepted her hand and shook their hands. “Nice meeting you, Gab, I am Sofia Pollyana, you can call me Sofie.” She smiled back to Gab. “Do you need anything from me?” “No, I just noticed you’re also a newbie like me?” She nodded. “Yes, and I don’t have any idea how to make my first day be productive, I don’t know my work. Confusing. As what you can see this is my first time.” “Oh, well… I see, but let’s talk about it later. I noticed they hate speech here. I’ll wait you outside on lunch, okay?” “Okay sure.” They smiled together before they go back to their works. At twelve o’ clock in the afternoon, she went out of the company to have her lunch. She saw Gab waiting for her outside, sitting on the edge of the stairs from the entrance of the building. Gab waved her hand to her with a smile. “How’s work?” Gab asked her. “I don’t know if I can call it work, I just sat on the swivel chair for four hours.” She chuckled. “Nobody gives me a task to do, I never dream my work could be like this. Easy, as in super easy to the point that I don’t have work to do.” They laughed. “I’m hungery, let’s talk about it inside a store.” “Sure… I am badly hungry too.” They entered the nearest restaurant in the Goddard Company. The restaurant was plain ang simple, a few customers were inside with their meals. “What would you lik e to eat new friend?” “I want a hard meal, I’m so hungry,” Sofia replied to Gab. They searched for their space and sat there. They paired their meal and waited for their order as the waiter took it. “So, Gab, it was your first job too? And you’re new too the company also?” She placed her hands on top of the table, staring at Gab. Her new met friend. “No, this is not my first job. I been working in Jaz Company before, and worked as customer service. And yes, I am new to Goddard, but I cannot find someone to talk there, then I saw you.” Gab smile was genuine. “I heard you talking to Mr. Goddard, you are his new secretary and I’m also new here. I think we both noticed the oddness inside the company, right?” “Yes, I thought I am alone. No one was talking, they don’t even approach me what to do. No one was giving me attention. I made a coffee and ask someone where how to use the machine but I ended up, finding the way alone. That’s not necessary!” She seems like a nagger, complaining to someone who did wrong to her. Gab laughed at her. “Yeah, we both experienced it. I was asking where to bring the documents I printed out but no one answered me.” “Exactly! They seemed a working robot.” They stopped talking when their meals delivered to their table. “It’s nice to meet you, Gab. At least I found someone I can talk to inside the company.” Gab gave her a pretty smile. “Same as you, Sofie.”
