Chapter 22

The day was passing so fast. Sofia was working with Goddard company for almost one two weeks. Today was her none working day. This is the first day off she got where Lily ha no work too. So, they decided to stay home together and have their girls’ day. When she suddenly remembered Gabriella, which is also has no work today. Sofia offered her to have lunch inside their apartment. These two girls were important for her. Not just because of the friendship between them but because these are the true person she only had in her life and nothing more. Sofia’s parents died because of an accident. When they started facing the poverty because of their company bankruptcy, they could not take it no more. They are not good at living their lives in such poverty and shameful lives with their relatives. The night before the accident occurred, her parents were drunk and nobody helped them to drive home safety. Dizziness ate her dad’s consciousness that troubled him to see the ten wheelers truck in front of them. They both dead on arrival. Sofia has the bad past. She could not forget the pain of losing both of her parents in just one night but thinking they are both reckless and they are killed themselves in selfishness, she learned to realize they are not worth the pain because they never thought of her that night. No matter how she hates them, or even taught herself to hate them, she always ended up missing and loving them. Who would not be? She lived with them for many years and she lost them in just one day. How good the world was to her? They left her in a big debt and when the time she slowly rising from their debt and got her small savings, her friend Lily offered her to invest her money to their coffee shop. She never hesitated on that offer and immediately grabbed it. Though, she lied to Lily that she has extra money left after she invested. She invested all of her money that is why she badly need the work. And luckily, she was hired the first day. Even how cruel the world to her. There is always her lucky, wanting to save her. No matter how she prone into trouble, there is always someone wanting to save her. And that was Lily— and here comes Demire.

“So, Gab, what do you want to eat for our lunch?” Sofia asked Gab while they were on the living room watching some Korean drama. Gab arrived on their apartment early than her expected time of her arrival, reason why she has prepared nothing yet.

“Anything will do, you know I can eat anything on the table.” Gab chuckled.

“Exactly, even poison.”

Lily wagged her head laughing to see the two girls on the living room. Their apartment was not that big, and has incomplete furniture. They only have small living room and one room. They both sleeping on that room but sometimes, when Lily has work at night, Sofia used to sleep there alone. “I have something with you, girls.” Lily just went to the grocery today, and arrived home with some beers on the plastic she was holding.

“What is that?” Sofia asked.

“Beer?” There was a smile on Lily’s lips. “Do you think it will be good with chicken wings?”

“Definitely!” Gab clapped her hands. Before Lily leave their apartment to the grocery, she met Gab already. Gab is not that hard to enjoy her company. Jolly and talkative. She always bringing out new topic after the other one subsided. “But is it okay to drink for dinner?”

“Why not?” Sofia faced Gab.

“Just so you know, it’s hot at this time.”

“Yes,” Lily agreed, “Then we will serve it for later, what do you think, Gab?” She looked at Gab. “Do you think you can stay here until tonight?”

“Yes, sure! I have nothing to do today, beside this is my none working day.” She chuckled.

After watching some movies, they ended up on the kitchen helping each other for their lunch. They agreed to have two viands for their meal later, Chicken Adobo and Kaldereta. These are the two famous Filipino cuisines. Since they loved to eat spicy foods, they made them spicy.

“So, how was your work girls? You both newbie in Goddard, right?” Lily just opened new topic for them while they were preparing the utensils and plates on the box table. Sofia often telling her about Gab, and now that she met her. She realized, she’s good as what Sofia told her.

Suddenly, Sofia and Gab are tossing both their gaze and did not answer.

“Why? Is there something wrong.” She felt something wrong about the two girls. “Well, you know. I dreamed to work on that company before, that company and the CEO Demire was so famous, but everyone believes there is something wrong inside that company.”

Gab and Sofia turned surprised.

“Really? So, they know?” Sofia was curious. “They know that everyone working there are muted?” They sat on each armchair in front of the table after they got done with the preparation.

“Muted?” Lily asked them.

“Yes, they are not talking as in!” Gab leaned her back on the backrest of the chair and sighed.

“No, that’s not what I mean.”

“Then what?” Sofia and Gab started to get curious about the company they were working at. Beside of employees that had been muted inside the company they knew nothing more ridiculous than it. 

"So, there really is?" Gad asked. 

"Yes, and that was about your boss named Demire Goddard."
