The Devil’s Bite

Chapter 23

“What about him?” Sofia asked. As far as she could remember meeting that man, there is nothing wrong about him. He might be bossy and strict sometimes but despite of it, he is a good man. He was gentleman, kind and thoughtful but there was something that bothering her. What is his reason to refuse Gabriella about the advance salary? Oh, maybe because she was just new and yet about to borrow money.

“The person that manages the company was with the same face since the company rose and got popular.”

Sofia paused and got into a very deep thought. “Are you sure about it? That is crazy. Do you mean, he never gets old?”

Lily shrugged her shoulder. “I don’t know, maybe they are using same face to maintain something spiritual they believe into or that man was really a monster?” She chuckled because of the idea that comes out to her lips. This gossip about the company Sofia and Gab were working was headed to the news paper before, and spread on the social media. But nothing has proven true since no one got any proof to prove the gossip.

“Oh, maybe just a gossip.” Sofia sighed. That gossip is impossible rather. She knew there is no one in the universe will pass one face of their ancestor to continue the living. And also, there is no one on earth could live forever like the way the gossip spreads. “I knew it was just a gossip, yeah.” She seems like trying to convince herself with a lie.

“I guess so. Let’s just forget about that thing, bashers are always be bashers. Of course, his company is popular there is a big chance some of competitor will ruin his name.” Lily got the point. They are all agreed about it. They started to serve their selves on the clean white plates. While they were eating, they got many topics to know more each other specially Gab, their new friends. Gab stayed there until evening, they were drinking beers and eating spicy chicken wings when the doorbell rang. Sofia was the one volunteered to open the door, it’s already ten o’ clock in the evening and they drank many already. She’s a bit dizzy now.

“Wait!” she scolded to someone waiting outside their apartment while she was trying to pair her slippers before open the door. She could not see things clear. When she finally reached the door and opened it, she saw no one but she smelled the familiar scent of the man on the cold fresh air. “D-Demire?” she mouthed his name though she was not sure if it was really his scent. But if ever it was him, where is he?

Sofia elevated her face to see the full moon. The moon was full uncovered with the dark skies and was luminous. Brighter than the usual moon she often saw on her position. She did not know today was the full moon. The cold air touched her skins and left her goosebumps. She hugged her body tighter and giggled because of the cold.

“Sofia, come here. I have to show you something!”

She heard Lily’s voice. She shook her head to vanish her thoughts and immediately closed the door and went back to the dining area where she left the two girls who started to love each other.

“Look at this, Sofia, I got your parents’ picture left to this album—”

She hurriedly run towards Lily when she saw what she was holding, a picture of her parents. She already burned all the pictures she has with her parents. After their death, she does not want any memories with them. She might be the worst and evil person to erase all the memories with her parents but this is the only thing she knew to lessen the pain they left inside her heart. She torn the picture into small pieces and faced the girls with teary eyes. Lily didn’t know about what she feels. She kept on hiding it to her friend, thought she knew she will understand her. Is just that she does not want to mention anything because it will only leave her painful. It will only leave her teary.

“I’m sorry,” Lily said and hugged her.

A sudden full moon occurred, and nobody cannot explain it yet. Every full moon, Demire transforming into his immortal appearance. He could not control his transformation when the sacred full moon was appeared. It is callings out the devil inside him. His power was overflowing, just like how powerful the full moon was to appear in the middle of the dark and brighten the world. He travelled on the air while he was in his devil look and decided to visit Sofia, confess her what he was, to have his first bite on her neck but the deep part inside him yanked him. When she opened the door for him, disgraced immediately suck him out. Sofia will never accept who he was. Nobody will accept the devil like him. He is dangerous, they believed.

He was thirsty and badly want to taste her sweet blood but he has to control himself no matter how hard it was. If he will do it, he will lose her forever. And there is no way to deny it. Human will fear him, just like how Angelique, his first lover run away after knowing what he is. She didn’t run away! She was just sick, and she went back to see me before she died. But he was worried if Sofia is just like Angelique. Definitely she’s not. And he can see it her eyes. She does not want her first boyfriend to be the devil like him.
