Chapter 1: Best Friend in the World.
"Mum, I will be back soon," Walker said over his car speakers. He was speaking with his mom on a phone call. "I need to get something. I am on my way." Walker was a young billionaire and her mom's only son. He was Iris's best friend and tried to help and protect her. Iris was a vibrant and cute girl. She was a simple girl with a low-class upbringing. She was brave enough, but she was living alone, and she struggled to make life for herself after the death of her mother. She lived in a small town in Texas and wanted to pursue her studies in New York City. With so much effort and relentlessness, she was lucky to get a scholarship and get a chance to go to Fordham University and pursue her dreams. She went to Fordham University on a scholarship, and being a 22-year-old girl and working a part-time job to feed her wallet, she made herself different from other students. She has no time for boys and fun, as she didn't want to put herself in a relationship after her first-ever boyfriend dropped her for an old woman. But Walker was her only friend–a rich man, hot, handsome, and the most desirable bachelor. Being friends with him was a story. They met at the university. He was her senior and the most wanted guy in the university as a young billionaire. It all came one day, as luck would have it. Walker walked in when the school gang or cultist was bullying her and trapping her in their midst. Ever since then, they have been friends, even to the point of Mrs. Laura calling her almost her daughter. It was noon on Sunday, and Iris wanted to rest the whole day as she was tired. Yesterday's work was so stressful because she was working as a waitress to make a living for herself. She didn't make any plans and completed her assignments the night before. She worked part-time, attended her classes the whole week, and felt encouraged. Now was the time she needed to rest. She wasn't going to wake up, even if the person was bringing a favor. At least she planned for this, but to her luck, she wasn't going to get any rest on Sunday. Her phone began to vibrate, started ringing, and kept ringing. She tried to place her hand on her nightstand table beside her bed with her eyes closed and press the power button to decline the call, but it started ringing again. "What... who is that? Who didn't want me to rest for God's sake?" She yelled at whoever was calling her on Sunday morning. "Hey, Iris! Are you telling me you've forgotten that you promised me that you would come with me for my family lunch? And I guess you are on the bed right now. Come on, get up quickly, and get ready. I'll be at your place in less than 30 minutes." Walker said over the phone. "Whatever," Iris marked and hung up. She quickly got up and went to the bathroom. She didn't want Walker to be at her place without being dressed. After 40 minutes, Walker was standing on Iris's door, hitting on her doorbell impatiently. After continuously ringing the bell for like 10 minutes, Iris opened the door. "Okay, I'm ready. Let's get going." Iris hurried up and pulled him with her, shutting and locking the door at the same time. "Why are you girls always late? Don't tell me you're not done since. Now I will be late for lunch."Walker said, smacking his head into his hand. "Oh yeah? Then, why didn't you get yourself a girlfriend who will be following up and there instead of living a lonely life? You know I want to spend my days resting on my bed; sleeping the whole day is what I demanded." She said it lazily. "Oh no, you know I am not ready for that. It's all because of you, and you always behave properly with my mother like no other girl will."Walker rolled his eyes and continued. "My mom will be pleased to see you there. My mom is very fond of you. Mom was asking for her favorite daughter, you know." Walker gave her a soft smile. "Yeah! I know your mom is very loving, Walker, but what of your sister? I like to spend my weekends with her. Because I miss my mom so much." She said this as she was feeling sad as she remembered the death of her mother due to low funds. Walker moved closer to her and hugged her. "Iris am with you now." He said he felt sorry for her situation. They engage in a minor conversation, and after a few minutes of driving, they reach Mrs. Laura's house. It was a huge addition, with a beautiful garden and large artwork scattered around the white-painted wall. The chandelier attached to the very tall ceilings produced a good that uniquely illuminated the living room with a cool color that matched her gloomy mood as it always does. Mrs. Laura and Catherine, we're sitting in the living area. As they came into sight, his mom stood up and came forward to welcome them. Mrs. Laura hugged Iris. "Hey sweetheart, it's been a long time since I saw you. What happened?" "Yeah, Mrs. Laura, I was busy with assignments. But I miss you all." Iris said with a genuine smile while looking at Walker's face. The dining table is ready, as they have been waiting for their arrival. They sat at the dining table like a family. They were all having lunch, and conversations were going on as they shared their memories with laughter. Mrs. Laura broke the laughter with her shocking statement. "Oh my, how I wish that you were his girlfriend," Laura said. Iris caught her breath and couldn't let it out. Walker yelled at his mom, "MOM! "What? I can choose for you, can't I?" His mom rolled her eyes at him. Catherine was the only one who failed to laugh and kept silent about eating the whole season. They enjoyed a family lunch together. Chit-chat and teasing made the delicious lunch more interesting. After they were done eating, Laura made Iris promise her she would visit them more often. They left after some time. They both went to Walker's apartment. They had made plans to watch a movie together, as both friends were in a happy mood. Iris felt as if she were with her parents, but there will always be a difference. She changed into Walker's white T-shirt, which was too big for her. Walker was delighted to watch a football match as his team was playing. He scolded Iris to bear with him, but with no disappointment, he already knew Iris wouldn't accept. They both sat on a couch in front of a huge TV. Walker later asked her to choose her favorite channel, and he went to make some official calls. They watched the movie on the couch and fell asleep together. Iris mostly spent her weekends with Walker. They scuffled and slept. Their relationship was so pure and fun. It was pure and innocent. Not everyone had this effect on Walker, but Iris. He never refused any of her demands. She's the only one who understands him, except for football matches. She never judges him for anything. Only she had a place in Walker's life. He didn't understand why he cared so much for her, but he knew she was his bestie.
