Ivory's POV.
I quickly bent down and picked up the bracelet, locking it tightly in my palm.
“It's nothing.. I mean, uhm.. I have had it since I was a child” I stuttered.
“Had what?” Ethel inquired, raising a brow up.
Just then, there was a loud bang at the door. Ethel stared at me questionably before going to get the door.
I breathed a sigh of relief and trailed slowly behind him. I came to a halt at a far distance and focused my gaze at the door to see who was knocking as early as this.
Ethel opened the door and frowned immediately.
It was one of the guards of the pack house.
“This had better be important,” Ethel said, sounding irritated.
“There is a problem, Alpha” The guard said. “Well…”
“Speak already!” Ethel commanded in a hoarse tone.
“Someone tried to break into obsidian last night. He is currently in the dungeon” The guard announced.
“Who is he?”
“He claimed to be a healer and looks very old.” The guard explained.
“Bring him to the pack den. I will be there immediately” Ethel said, shutting the door in the guard's face.
He walked past me as if I was invisible and it was a good thing. At least he wouldn't ask more questions about my bracelet.
Ethel picked up his white shirt and wore it on, hurriedly dashing out of the room.
I had a strong urge to follow him to the pack’s den as I was curious to know how the Alpha would pass his judgment.
I got back into the bathroom and freshened up. I wore a plain emerald green knee length dress and secured my hair into a messy bun.
I wrapped my bracelet in a white cloth and hid it in a cupboard close to my bed. It wouldn't be safe if Ethel is suspicious of me and this bracelet might cause suspicions.
I walked out of my room and soon, out of the pack house.
Although I have spent almost two months in Obsidian pack, I have never been to the pack den before so I had no idea where I was headed.
“Are you planning on running away from the pack?” I heard a familiar voice say from behind.
I chuckled because I knew it was Beta Alex.
“I was trying to locate the pack den, but it seems like I am lost” I said, turning around to face him.
“This way Luna, the judgment will begin soon” Alex said, leading the way.
Alex and I got to the pack den in less than five minutes. There were many wolves gathered and I spotted Ethel seated with his legs crossed.
There was this aura that surrounded him and without any doubts, it always sent butterflies in my tummy.
Ethel was the only one seated as the rest of the wolves were on their feet. Alex and I stood at the entrance of the den.
“What do you think his judgment would be?” I asked, shifting my gaze to Alex.
“Death!” Alex said sternly
“Death?” I asked curiously.
“Believe it or not Luna, …”
“Ivory” I said, interrupting his statement.
“Believe it or not Ivory, you are the first wolf that is not a pack member who is still alive and walking around freely.” Alex said, maintaining a serious expression.
“Here in obsidian, we take our safety and security very seriously. No one, except a pack member, can be trusted, ” He added.
“Does that include me?”
“As far as I am concerned, you are a member of this pack and also our Luna. You have our trust and also our loyalty” Alex said, slightly bowing his head.
If only Alex knew my true motive, I was sure that he would behead me at the first opportunity he gets.
“Bring the prisoner!” Ethel ordered.
Two guards holding a man who seemed to be in his eighties passed right through Alex and I.
As soon as they passed, I felt a feeling of uneasiness that I couldn't understand. Aside from being close to Ethel, nothing else made me feel uneasy.
The prisoner was brought to the presence of Ethel. He was then forced by the guards to go on his knees.
“Speak!” Ethel commanded.
“My name is Aiden. I am a healer,” He said.
That voice!
I knew that voice. I recognized that voice. I was sure that this wasn't the first time I have heard that voice.
I stretched my head trying to see his face but it was to no avail as the prisoner's back was facing me.
“Is everything fine?” Alex asked, noticing my movements.
I nodded.
“What business do you have with obsidian?” Ethel asked, firmly and bold.
“I seek your protection, Alpha Ethel. I am a lone wolf, my pack was raided some few months ago and I am afraid to say I might be the only one left” The prisoner explained in a pleading tone.
“Obsidian do not accept strangers.” Ethel said, now getting up from where he sat.
“Please, have mercy.” The prisoner pleaded. “I might be of importance to you and the pack as there is no disease or sickness I can't heal,” The prisoner added.
“Haha, I am sure you can,” Ethel said sarcastically.
“Are you fine? You look pale” Alex said, tapping me lightly on the shoulder.
“Do you want to sit? Are you not feeling too good? I could take you back to the pack house, do you want that?” He threw a barrage of questions at me.
“I am fine Alex. I promise. I am just curious to see the prisoner's face” I lied.
“The prisoner will be beheaded by noon tomorrow. That is my judgment. Take him away!” Ethel ordered and there was a loud howl from the pack wolves. “Take him away!”
The two guards that brought in the prisoner rushed over and grabbed him by the arm. One holding the left and the other, holding the right.
They dragged him back to his feet and began to walk him out of the pack's den, where Alex and I stood.
I fixed my gaze on the prisoner and as soon as he walked past me, he turned around and locked his eyes with mine.
I instantly grasped, taking a step backwards.
I recognized those eyes everywhere.
Father!
What was he doing here?
