Chapter 1: The Awakening of the Forgotten path
Lilith stood at the edge of the sprawling field, the wind tugging at her long, auburn hair as she gazed at the place that once felt like home. It had been just weeks since the tragedy—her parents, brilliant scientists, had died in an experiment gone terribly wrong. Their work had been groundbreaking, revolutionary, and dangerous, and Lilith had always been proud of them. But now, she was left with nothing but the remnants of their lab and a heavy ache in her chest.Beside her, her younger sister, Charlotte, clung to her side, her small face upturned with a quiet sadness that Lilith couldn’t quite explain. At just three years old, Charlotte didn’t understand of what had happened, but Lilith could see the confusion and loss in her eyes. It broke Lilith’s heart to know Charlotte didn’t understand where their parents had gone, or why they weren’t there to comfort her. But Lilith had always promised herself she would take care of Charlotte, no matter what. She had to be strong, for Charlotte’s sake, even though every day felt like a battle."Lillie," Charlotte whispered softly, her innocent voice breaking through the silence. She tugged on Lilith's sleeve, looking up at her with big eyes. "What's wrong with the sky?" Lilith smiled and gently squeezed Charlotte's small hand. "Nothing's wrong, Lottie," she murmured, though her own heart felt heavy. "It’s just the evening sky, that’s all."Charlotte didn’t say anything more, but the look in her eyes seemed to ask questions Lilith couldn’t answer. Charlotte was too young to understand everything that had happened. She couldn’t yet comprehend the weight of their parents' passing, or the strange new life they would now have to face alone. Lilith, however, had to be strong—for Charlotte’s sake. She would protect her, no matter what. It was late in the evening when something unusual caught Lilith’s attention. Beneath the old oak tree in their garden, a strange, soft glow flickered in the air. Lilith had never noticed it before, and the sudden illumination was almost… inviting. She looked down at Charlotte, who was staring at the glow with wide eyes, her tiny fingers reaching toward it. "Lillie, look!" Charlotte gasped, her voice full of wonder. "What’s that?" Lilith’s heart skipped a beat. “I don’t know, Lottie,” she answered, her voice low as she felt a strange pull in her chest. “But let’s go see.” Without thinking, Lilith took Charlotte’s hand, feeling an almost magnetic force guiding them toward the glow. The closer they got, the stronger the pull became, as if something—or someone—was calling to them. As they reached the tree’s base, the air around them seemed to hum, and the ground beneath their feet began to shimmer. Lilith’s heart raced, and for a moment, she felt a sense of dread. But Charlotte’s small hand in hers grounded her, and she steeled herself to protect her sister. "What’s happening, Lillie?" Charlotte asked, her voice trembling slightly."I don’t know, Lottie," Lilith whispered back, though she kept her voice calm for Charlotte’s sake. "But stay close. I’ll keep you safe." Then, without warning, the world around them began to twist and blur. Colors swirled, and the ground beneath them seemed to vanish, as if they were falling through a rift in space itself. Lilith’s stomach lurched, and she held Charlotte tighter, squeezing her little sister’s trembling body against her. When the sensation stopped, and the world snapped back into focus, Lilith found herself standing in an unfamiliar, magical landscape. The air was thick with the scent of wildflowers and damp earth. The sky above was dark, but the stars glimmered brightly, illuminating towering trees that seemed to hum with an otherworldly energy. Creatures—part animal, part something else—moved in the shadows, and Lilith felt the weight of ancient magic hanging in the air."Lillie… where are we?" Charlotte whispered, her voice full of awe. Lilith looked around, trying to make sense of their surroundings, but nothing seemed familiar. “I don’t know, Lottie, but we’ll figure it out. We’re together, and that’s all that matters.” Just as Lilith began to process what was happening, a figure stepped from the shadows. She was tall, draped in a cloak of deep blue that shimmered like the night sky itself. Her long, silver hair cascaded down her back, and her eyes glowed with an ethereal light.“You are the children of the scientists,” the woman said, her voice low and melodic. “I’ve been waiting for you.”Lilith’s heart skipped a beat. “Who… who are you?” “I am Elowen,” the woman replied, bowing slightly. “And you are standing on the threshold of a world few have ever entered—one tied to the very fabric of your parents’ work. This world, and the secrets it holds, are the reason your parents were lost. But it is also the key to understanding their final experiment. And now, it is your turn to take up the mantle.” Lilith’s mind was spinning. “My parents… They never spoke of this place.” “They couldn’t. They were the first to discover this world—hidden from human eyes. But it is not a place for the faint of heart. The powers here are ancient, and they change everything they touch.” “Why are we here?” Lilith asked, her protective instincts flaring as she glanced down at Charlotte. “What do we need to do?” Elowen’s expression softened with a hint of sadness. “You are here because you are the last of your line. Your parents were not only scientists—they were guardians of this world’s balance. Now that they are gone, it is up to you, Lilith, and to you, Charlotte, to restore that balance.” Before Lilith could respond, a loud rustling sounded in the distance, followed by a low growl. The trees parted to reveal a dark, menacing shape—tall, shadowy, and filled with an ominous presence. “Elowen!” Lilith gasped, her heart pounding. “What is that?” “A guardian,” Elowen answered, her voice calm despite the danger. “It is a creature born of this world, tasked with ensuring harmony. But something is wrong. It has been corrupted. If it is not stopped, this world—and perhaps even yours—will be destroyed.” Lilith felt the weight of responsibility settle on her shoulders. She swallowed hard, but her resolve was firm. “What do we do?” she asked.. elowen stepped forward, her eyes glowing with quiet wisdom. “You must journey to the heart of this world—the Nexus. There, you will find the answers. But know this: the path will not be easy. It will test you in ways you cannot imagine. And you cannot succeed alone.” Lilith looked down at Charlotte, who was staring up at her with wide, trusting eyes. Charlotte’s tiny hand gripped Lilith’s tightly, and despite the fear she could see in her sister’s eyes, she knew Charlotte believed in her. “I’ll protect you,” Lilith said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty of what lay ahead. “We’ll do this together. No matter what.” Elowen nodded, her eyes full of approval. “Then go. And remember: the power of this world lies not only in strength, but in understanding the balance of magic, science, and the heart.” With those words, Elowen disappeared into the shadows, leaving Lilith and Charlotte to face the unknown. Whatever this world held, she would uncover the truth about their parents’ legacy, and together, they would survive.
