Chance of making it up

Therese POV

Napangiti ako sa mga nakikita ko sa kanyang mga mata. I saw yearning then guilt in his eyes. I mouthed for him to sit tska kumain na. He still can’t believe na I am in front of him already, I myself can’t believe na andito ako like I normally have been doing before.

Mainit akong tinanggap ng parents niya. They were even sorry sa nangyari and I told them I was okay na so I don’t think kailangan pa naming pag usapan yun.

As usual, tita cooked lot of foods. And it did not disappoint kasi ang sasarap pa din, it was like I was eating sa restaurant nila sa mall. We were happily talking nung dumating siya.

From the corner of my eye, napapansin kong panay ang sulyap niya sakin habang siya’y kumakain. He sometimes stare na parang di makapaniwala.

“Son, she’s not going away anytime soon. So just eat.” Puna naman ng Mommy niya.

Napatawa nalang kami habang pinamulahan naman siya. Panay pa naman ang asar sa kanya ng Ate niya. He continued eating minus the stares and glances. Pero namumula naman ang kanyang tenga.

Natapos kami at nag aya si tita sa pool nila. Doon lang muna kami nag usap usap while we drink our tea. Ate excused herself kasi tulog na yung baby niya sa bisig niya.

Kami nalang apat sa may pool side. They didn’t talk too much na unlike sa dinner. And Andrew was fidgeting by my side.

“Babalik ka na ba sa school, iha?” tanong ni tita.

“Yes po. Daddy already set it na makakapasok na ako by next week. Hinahanda ko lang po sarili ko sa midterms this week.” I said na ikinatango naman niya.

“That’s good. I’m sure proud na proud pa din sayo ang parents mo.” Tito said. I just smiled and nodded.

“Sige iha, mauna na din ako sa inyo. I am kind of tired and I want to sleep na.” tumayo na si tita saka ako hinagkan sa pisngi. She whispered something to me.

“Sana, mabalik na kayo sa dati.” She said saka lumayo ng konti and smiled before letting me go. I smiled back and tapped her back. Tito smiled to me also saka inakay si tita papasok.

It was just me and Andrew sa labas. I drank the tea altogether saka tumayo. He did also.

“Aaslis nako. It’s past 10 na and I know Mommy will be worried.” He was looking into my eyes and nodded.

“Can I drive you home?” he said. Tatanggi sana ako kaso napa isip ako, I don’t have my car with me and di kami magkaka ayos kung pananatilihin kong lihim ang kagustuhang mapatawad siya and start all over.

I sighed and nodded. Nasa garahe nila kami nang huminto ako sa paglalakad. Hindi ko na maantay na sa loob ko pa masabi ang nararamdaman ko.

“What’s wrong? May nakalimutan ka ba?” he asked and I faced him. He looked worried and tired?

“May sasabihin ako sa yo.” I said and lumapit pa ng konti sa kanya.

“You’re a senior in school now. Gagraduate ka na in a few months. And before you leave school, I want you to know this.” I said and looked at him. Ang mga mata naman niya ay nakatutuk sakin. He was waiting patiently.

“I… forgive you. And I want to… start all over again.” I confessed na ikinalaki ng mata niya. It felt like some light years bago niya ako niyakap and hinagkan ang noo.

“You have no idea how much I wanted to hear that from you.” He said as he hugged me still.

“But I want you to court me again, and wait until I am ready to be your girl again.” I said. He nodded.

“I will wait. I will court you everyday. Kulang ang isang lifetime to prove to you how much regret I felt nung nagawa ko yun.” He said, eyes brimming with tears. I smiled and nodded.

He was about to kiss me nang tinulak ko siya ng marahan. I was smiling then eventualy laughed at his sour face.

“What? Akala ko ba manliligaw ka muna?” I said and his face softened.

“Okay. I will wait.” He said saka niya lang ako pinakawalan.

Naglakad na kami papunta sa sasakyan niya, he opened my side of the door saka ako pumasok. He ran to his side then started the car.

Tahimik lang namin binaybay ang papunta samin. It was a comfortable silence. I was looking outside while he was driving. Di ko na din namalayan na nakarating na kami sa amin, I was fast asleep. Maybe because konti lang ang itinulog ko after we arrived. I was too excited.

Naramdaman ko nalang na may humahaplos sa mga pisngi ko. I stirred then finally opened my eyes. He was smiling to me.

“Andito na tayo, kanina pa. I did not have the heart to wake you up.” He said and I nodded and smiled.

“Thank you sa paghatid. Sorry I fell asleep.” I said and started to fix myself.

“No problem. And by the way,” he stopped midway na ikinatingin ko.

“Thank you for giving me another chance and for... visiting my family.” Ako naman ang napa ngiti non.

“No problem. Do well on your studies, graduating ka na.”

“You too. But I doubt you can’t make it. Likas sa inyo ang matatalino.” He sad as he soothed my hair.

“Nasa pag study lang yan. Sige, mauna na ako. I still can see light sa baba. I guess Mom is still awake.”

“Okay, have a goodnight!” tango niya saka sinabi sakin.

“You as well, good night!” I waved and got out of the car. Pinagmasdan ko itong lumayo na.

Pumasok na ako at binati ng guard. Binati ko siya pabalik with a smile saka tuluyan nang pumasok. Pagkapasok ko sa baba, I was right. Mom was there, but she was not alone.

“What are you guys doing here?” tanong ko sa kanila.

“We are waiting for my 17 years old baby girl who was still outside.” Sabi ni Mom.

“Everything alright princess?” tanong ni Dad. I nodded.

“Yeah. We patched things up. Him and his family.” I said

“But we are not together again, yet.” I added nang makita kong nan dilim paningin ni Daddy.

“Good. I don’t want him near you for a while. When you’re 21, saka na ako sasang ayon sa kahit na sino.” Dad said with finality.

“Babe, don’t be upset. We just want the best for you after everything that happened.” Mom said na hinahaplos ang kamay ko. I nodded and hugged them both.

“I promise, after all I have put you through, I promise to heed you.” I said, kasi alam kong yun ang tamang gawin. Matapos kong ilagay ang sarili ko sa kapahamakan.

They kissed me both sa cheeks and we ended up to our own rooms. I slumped to my lone couch na nasa gilid lang ng room and texted him.

It might be a while before we can be together. I am not allowed to be with you unless I truned 21. You can wait for me, right?

I sent it. Then di ko na muna inintay yong reply niya but instead I went to my bathroom, stripped and took a hot shower.

Ang sarap sa feeling nung mainit na tubig na rumaragasa sa katawan ko. It gave me comfort in a way. Nang matapos ako mag shower, I wore my matching jammies and went to bed.

School is not until next week and lahat ng klase ko, online. I had three tomorrow so I better sleep. Then I saw my phone blinking. Must be his reply.

I took my phone and read the message. I was not mistaken, it was from him.

I will wait for you. I will prove myself worthy. Sleep now, princess. I’ll see you next week?

I was smiling saka ako nagtipa ng reply. And then placed my phone sa bedside and closed my eyes as I hit the sheets.

Andrew POV

I am in school today in one of my classes. We had one pop quiz then lectures came. Namimiss ko na siyang kausap but I have to endure it. I made a promise.

May tumabi sakin during the lectures but I did not mind that person, I was busy listening to the prof. Nung matapos yung lecture, I fixed my stuff then went out.

Yun na yung ginagawa ko ever since I was given another chance at luck dito sa school. I was thankful to Mr. Montecillo for backing me up. But he told me that he did that for her daughter. He knows na magagalit daw siya if I was included.

I smiled. My princess, still there to protect me. As I was about to get out, may humila sakin pabalik sa loob ng room. She locked the doors sa room and faced me again. Kumunot ang noo ko. It was her again, si Sabel.

I frowned nang unti unti na niyang binubuksan yung butones ng upper uniform niya. She was smiling seductively but I was not aroused at all.

That’s the thing, ever since na maging kami ni Therese, I stopped my flings and I am not even getting aroused sa mga babae na minsan ko nang nakasiping noon.

“What the hell are you doing?” singhal ko sa kanya as she comes near me.

“What? Ayaw mo na ba nang ganito. You know I can share.” She said as she continues her way to me slowly.

“Stop it. We’re done. Tapos na ako sa mga pinag gagagawa ko. We’re graduating for Pete’s sake, magfocus ka dun instead sa mga ganito.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Aww, is the playboy/hardcore lover/heart breaker being transformed into a love sick puppy?” she snickered.

“Wala ka na doon. And will you please stop coming to me? Wala akong gana makipag laro sayo.” I said then iiwan na sana siya nang higitin niya ang braso ko.

“Loverboy, she’s not gonna last. Girls like those, don’t last. She will give up on you, I’m telling you.” She said saka ko siya itinulak.

“f**k you. Di siya katulad ninyong basta may makasiping sa isang araw ay solve na. She knows her worth, while you? Wala ka pa sa kalahati niya.”

“Why? Because mayaman siya? Mas mayaman satin? Mas matalino satin? May I remind you na you’re just like me Andrew. Kaya nga ayaw ni Matt sayo para sa kapatid niya, di ba?” she hit the spot. But I tried not to show any emotions.

“You’re wrong there lady, he already gave me his blessing.” I said and napa ngisi nang biglang nanlaki ang mga mata.

“f**k you, Andrew! You’re not gonna last, I will make sure of it. Akala mo matatapon mo ako ng ganito?” I heard her say as I went out slinging my bag on the side.

I walked to my other class, buti nalang di ako late nang dahil sa babaeng yun. Napa upo nalang ako sa seat ko saka tumingin sa labas. Wala pa si prof kaya maiingay silang lahat.

I grabbed my phone at pinansak ko ang earphones sa tenga. I played my music loud and watched what was happening outside the window.

At ganun na lang, classes went down like a speed of lightning. I went out for lunch. Nandoon ako sa canteen, eating at one of the tables. Well, alone, again. Pero nasanay na ako. I even prefer it.

May umupo naman sa harap ko with a tray being put down. Tinignan ko ito and it was none other than Alex. I smiled saka na pa iling nag masama ako nitong tignan.

“Cmon dude, stop giving me the stare. Pinatawad na ako ni Therese.” I said as I ate.

“Siya oo, ako hindi. Kumain ka na lang diyan.” He said then he also started to eat.

“Is she…” I was about to ask something to him nang bigla itong tumingin sakin ng masama, I chuckled.

“Okay, di na ako magtatanong.” Napatawa ako nang mahina. Kumain nalang ako.

“She’s good, even better. But she asked me to accompany you until you graduate. Dad gave her an ultimatum. Kaya wag na wag mong isipin na I am liking this. Not one bit. Pero dahil kapatid ko siya, I will tolerate this, I guess.”

“Aww, na antig naman puso ko dun, Alex.” I said, clearly inaasar ko siya. I laughed at his sour face then gave me the finger. I laughed and continued eating. Nakasanayan ko na ang mga ugali nila, In a way, they were all the same.

Pero alam kong mababait naman sila. Si Alex, kahit hindi niya ako gusto, alam kong mabait ito. That was clear, ayaw niyang masaktan ang kapatid niya he was doing this for her. With their character, it was a long feat.Matatapos na akong kumain nang magsalita ito sakin.

“She is coming back next week but don’t you dare get near her. She is not allowed to be with you until she is 21.” Sabi niya na ikinatango ko.

“I know, and I am willing to wait. She already told me.” I said then smiled and finished my food.

“That’s okay, I will have time to prove to her na seryoso ako sa kanya, that I am not fooling around anymore. But thank you so much, lex. Thank you for tolerating me.” I said with a smile. He looked at me then back to his food.

“Lex, basketball tayo?” I said saka ko siya tinignan.

“Why would I play with you?” he asked with a brow raised. Natawa ako.

“Aww. Cmon… I just wanna play, one game?” I said but he did not give me an answer. Natapos na siyang kumain saka tumayo. I followed suite. Nbapansin ko papunta siyang gym. I rounded up to him.

“May class ka na ngayon? Sayang I have 3 hours break eh.”

“Tanga, nakikipag laro ka di ba? Wag na nga lang.” sabi niya saka iikot na sana.

“Wait, wait, ikaw di ka mabiro. Tara?” I said and cheekily smiled.
