BETRAYED MARRIAGE
~Riley~
Shyly blushing, I looked at the red lace lingerie in front of me. I wore it after much hesitation and lay down in a sensual position on the king-sized bed.
If not for the fact that I let my best friend Claire coax me into it, I would have never wanted to do this. I'm still trying to figure out the ideal seductive sleeping position.
After thirty minutes, my husband Leo Walter and my best friend Claire entered the room, chuckling and laughing together. By now, I was completely perplexed.
"What the hell are you doing in my bedroom?," Leo bellowed, in a voice that was entirely unlike the one I had married a few hours before.
I continued to gaze at my best friend without ever glancing at him.
I got up and walked over to Claire, asking, "What are you doing here? We just spoke not quite long." She acted as if no one was even speaking to her.
"I'm asking y…," before I could finish my sentence, Leo yelled at me, "You don't have the right to ask my fiancé that question. Get out of this room now."
"What!, fiancé?," I blurted out at this moment, not realizing that tears were starting to fall. "That's not conceivable," I murmured, turning to face Leo. "What's wrong, Leo? Why are you treating me like this? I’m Claire, and we recently got married. What's happening,”.
"Disrespectfully?" he snorted. Your shamelessness disgusts me. Why did you wear such skimpy clothing and enter my bedroom?
I instinctively reached for his cheek, then I stopped and withdrew my hand. I gently said, trying to control my emotions, "I am your wife, Leo, and I will not tolerate being disrespected."
"You are not my wife Riley; are you deaf when I said Claire here is my fiancé?" he chuckled. Quit pretending to be ignorant in front of me.
As I fought to make sense of what was happening, he took hold of my hand, dragged me out of the room, and shoved me outside. As he returned to the bedroom, I watched with open mouth as he grabbed my suitcase and the clothing I had taken inside from the wardrobe and threw them all outside his room.
I gazed at my bags, which were now at my feet, as I irate, Leo stood at the bedroom door with Claire, who was grinning foolishly this time. "Remember your place," he urged, pointing fingers at me. How can you openly hurl yourself at me and try to share my bed when I just used you for fun?"
"Used me?" Even though I could still hear the words, everything started to feel like a movie. “What are you talking about Leo?”
"Now you listen, stop forcing yourself as his wife because you are not, I am the rightful owner not you," Claire said before he could say anything more. You have shown me that you are more than just a fool, and I was only playing the nice friend role to see you fail. Give up and back up from my man, because we merely used you for amusement, she uttered.
I didn't know what was going on, what had overcome her, or what I had done to deserve such treatment from her, so I was feeling really sad at this time.
Since we were young kids, we have been best friends. I don't make jokes about her, and my parents are like her own likewise hers.
I questioned, staring at them both bewildered, "So are you saying my dad is aware of all these and decided to give his consent?"
"Why won't he, if not, his health and company will go down and you all won't have anything to hold onto again," he replied.
"My dad?" I was still unable to make out what he was saying.
He pointed in a different direction and said, "I don't want anyone to think we are not a happy couple. The guest room is over there by your right."
"I know I'm hot and you're not the first lady to approach me, Riley, but get this into your head; Claire here is my fiancé and we have been dating for five years now and I will never cheat on her.
It means nothing to either of us that you are temporarily staying at my place. Just follow the plan; it's that easy: I'll divorce you and Claire here will be my wife as soon as I obtain what I want from my dad.
It infuriates me to hear her name once more. My best friend, who I considered a sister, chose to betray me and violate our mutual trust.
"Leo, no. I don't understand what you just stated, so why would you use me? What did I do to earn this treatment from you?
He sighed, massaging his temples as if he was tired of talking to me and I was annoying him. "I can't do this with you, Riley.”
After saying these things, they entered the room and closed the door. My heart hurt so bad I was having trouble breathing. But I realized that this was not the moment to show weakness. My dad needed to give me some explanations, but I also needed to fully comprehend what was happening.
Even though I hurriedly organized my bags, I still left everything in front of his door.
Luckily, the house was empty of other people. I removed my dress and entered the guest room that he had indicated. There, I changed into a black sleeveless dress.
I first called my mum to see if she knew about this but her phone was switched off then I called my dad after that, but he didn't answer the phone. It was one of Orchard Hospital's nurses; I asked the nurse, who seemed astonished that she had to answer, about my dad and she replied that he was in the operating room at the moment before hanging up.
I was in desperate need of explanations at this time. "Was my dad really sick? Why did my best friend do this to me? Why did Leo turn his back on me?" I pondered and wondered what was going on while I sat on the floor.
I needed answers, so as I regained my composure, I returned to the living room, grabbed my bags, and started to leave the house. Leo materialized in front of me and locked the door as I got closer to it.
I yelled, "Leo, stop right there. He started to walk back to his room." What do you think you are doing? With a sigh, he looked at me and inquired, "Where are you going with your luggage?," in a quiet voice.
"Isn't it obvious?," I rolled my eyes. I'm heading out.
"You're not leaving because you and I are husband and wife," he said as he stepped closer to me.
I shot back, "I am not your wife." "You very much stated that. I mean, you married me, but it was through deception. I won't be staying in this place for any longer because my permission was not requested. Leo, don't count on me to follow the guidelines. I don't act as someone's doormat.
"Fine, if you insist on leaving, your father will pay the price.” He issued a warning.
"If I withdraw my investments and his company has another decline, I wonder if he will be able to survive it this time.
It was unbelievable to me that this was the same man who had captured my heart at first sight.
I said, "Give me the keys, I want to go," as I extended my hand.
Leo firmly stated, "I've tried talking to you in a civilized manner, but you are just too stubborn for your own good. He put the keys in his pocket and raised his hands."
You're not leaving this house because it has come to this. as long as the law recognizes our marriage. You won't get in the way of me receiving my fortune.
He was starting to annoy me even more at this moment, so my eyes instantly shot to his photo frame on the wall, I took it immediately and hit him with it.
I pulled the keys from his pocket as soon as he hit his face, and Claire bolted from the room. Before she could grab me, I dashed out the door and sprinted as quickly as my feet would take me.
I pulled over in a taxi after realizing Leo and Claire were following me from behind.
"Just go anywhere, please, take me out of here," I told the driver. He stopped and refused to go any farther when he got to the SOL Foundation, the largest corporation in the area. Without turning around, I jumped out of the taxi and ran into the company.
As I was about to fall, I suddenly lost my steps and was grabbed by a strong hand. I exhaled with relief and opened my eyes, surprised to see who it was and stammered "Mm…, Mr. Alex.. Alexander Hamilton.”
