Chapter 9

1481 Words
Alex fell asleep for what felt like a few minutes but when she woke up and looked at her wrist watch she was surprised, the time was now 5: 30 PM. She had been asleep for almost 3 hours! "Oh my, I didn't know I would fall asleep for this long! I must have been really tired", she said, as she sat up on the bed. Her brain seemed a little fuzzy as she thought about what she needed to do for the evening and then she recalled. "Yes, Arthur leaves in less than an hour's time!", she said excitedly, as she stood up from the bed.  "I have to watch him leave. I can't miss this for anything!", she said, as she quickly put on her shoes that were neatly laid on the ground back on her feet. She dashed to the bathroom, to ensure her hair was well arranged and to dress it up a bit. She also applied a little make up on her face to look her very best even though she really didn't need to because she was naturally beautiful. After a few minutes she was done and came out of the bathroom. She now had 15 minutes left to go before 6 PM before Arthur left the mansion. She got out of her room and was glad for the first time to see the passageway clear of anyone waiting for her - it was pure bliss! Arthur was most likely busy getting ready to leave. She walked gracefully through the passageway until she got to the beginning of the helical staircase leading down to the first floor. She stopped there as she overheard the conversation between Arthur and Mr. Piers Anderson. She hid from sight as she listened to their conversation. "...they have all left the mansion Mr. Piers, I personally saw to it as always", Arthur said. "That's good and what of Ollie?", Piers asked. There was affection in his voice for Ollie unlike what she had heard before. "He is doing absolutely fine today Mr. Piers, I ensured he got everything he needs. He was well groomed, fed, exercised and rested. I kept him company afterwards and so did Bennett", Arthur said. "Will you like to see him before I leave? He is in the car as we speak", he asked. "I would love to but no. If he does see me this late he would not want to leave. I was so busy with the arrival of the new psychiatrist, I didn't have enough time to see my favourite Ollie", Piers said. She listened more carefully as she was mentioned their discussion. "I'll definitely see him tomorrow". "Please take good care of my dog; Ollie", he said. From his tone of voice she could tell he was done talking and it was time for Arthur to go. "I definitely will as always, goodnight Mr. Piers", Arthur said. "Goodnight Arthur", he replied.  She could see them both from the corner she hid, as Piers turned his back on Arthur and started to leave. "Pardon me Mr. Piers", Arthur said, as he stood rooted to the spot, without moving an inch. "Yes, what is it Arthur?", he asked him concerned. It seemed it was unusual for Arthur to speak to him after saying good night. "It's concerning the psychiatrist - Dr. Alex", Arthur said. As soon as she heard Arthur mention her name, she could feel her stomach tighten. She became anxious as to what he had to say concerning her. She absolutely expected nothing good to come from him. "I think she should come along with Ollie and I, than spend the night here. Tomorrow she can return and continue her therapy session from where she stopped with you", he urged him. She could tell Arthur was trying to persuade Piers at the last minute to change his mind and let her go with him. "No, she will remain here in the mansion! that was our deal and nothing changes!", Piers said to him. His tone of voice revealed he was unwilling to listen to Arthur. "But Mr. Piers -." "That will be the last word on the matter!", he insisted, cutting Arthur short before he could finish his sentence. "Goodnight Arthur and drive safely", he said, as he once again turned to leave. "Goodnight Mr. Piers", Arthur said, as he stood there for a while watching Piers leave his presence before finally turning and leaving through the main entrance doors. She could tell Arthur was disappointed that Piers didn't listen to him but she was very glad about that. She was happy Piers did not allow himself to be manipulated by Arthur, even though he was a trusted staff member and his house manager and butler. "Finally everything is coming together! I now have the liberty to explore the mansion and learn about things for myself", she thought to herself. Her thoughts were cut short when she saw Piers return to the main entrance door and locked it with his keys before once again leaving. "Isn't it still too early to lock the doors of the mansion?", she thought to herself from where she hid. "Most likely it was his weird security measure locking the main entrance door in the mansion so early in the evening because he was used to only him being alone all night in the mansion", she reasoned. That was the most probable explanation she could come up with. She didn't allow herself to be too bothered about that, as she got up from where she hid to go back to her bedroom. She needed to freshen up again and change into something wonderful for the evening. She had grown up reading how extremely wealthy people behaved, they dressed up for dinner and she was going to do likewise. *** The time was only a few minutes past 7 PM when Alex appeared out of her bedroom looking as gorgeous as ever before from her head to her toes.  Her platinum blonde hair was loose, as some of it fell on the front of her white sexy bodycon strap lace dress, which had a flair, starting from her waist line to her thighs and was slightly above her knees with a matching tan strappy heels completing her perfect look. She walked gracefully through the passageway and down the helical stairs leading to the first floor. She knew where the dining room was, it wasn't far away from the living room as she walked in to find Piers already seated at the edge of the 14 seater dining table, waiting for her to arrive as she had imagined in her head. Her choice of colour of dress perfectly matched those of the dining room as it was also painted White. The dining room had 2 large windows and the second outer layer of curtains were opened at both sides to allow the beauty of the lake to be seen from the dining room. The base layer of the curtains were sheer white while the second opaque layer was light sky blue. The room had two beautiful chandeliers that hung a few inches away from the ends of the dining table, revealing the shining surface of the white dining table and chairs that shone like white marble against light. She walked in stepping on the white tiled floor of the dining room but what caught her attention the most was the way Piers Anderson looked at her.  His eyes were fixed on her the moment she walked in, those dark and seductive eyes. She only caught a glimpse of it, as she blushed, returning her gaze back to looking at the white marble floor. If she had stared at him any second longer, she would have blushed uncontrollably and he would have noticed. She sat at the extreme end of the dining table as she had observed in movies before managing to look up at him again. He hadn't moved an inch, he hadn't helped her with her seat as he should have. "Gosh, he is so handsome!", she thought within herself cancelling out any other thought she was thinking. His face was still as handsome as the first time she saw him. She tried as much as possible not to look him in the eyes to avoid blushing. He was wearing a white, navy blue striped long sleeved standing collar shirt, that was unbuttoned at the top, with a nice wristwatch on. She couldn't tell the colour of his pants because he sat down, but she guessed it would match the colour of the strips of his shirt.  "Maybe navy colored pants", she thought to herself before hearing his voice. "I have been expecting you, what took you so long?", he asked calmly.  His words made her smile because he said he had been expecting her. She loved it!
