DANTE
I knew the accusations against me. The people from the reservation were saying I was the one responsible for the disappearances.
Those were lies and I needed to clear my name. I just came back from a tour of duty. There was no way I could be the one to blame.
I looked at the rundown trailer and sneered, is there any point in coming to this place? It didn’t look like an expert tracker and an investigator was working here.
“Oh I know that look, you’ll like Callisto though she is funny. She is also the best at what she does. I know this place doesn’t look like much but trust me she is worth it.” I glanced at Cody and c****d an eyebrow at him.
“You sound like you have a crush on her.” His cheeks turned pink and I chuckled. He still hasn’t found his mate and I can only hope that he does soon.
The elders claim that finding your mate is the best feeling in the world. I disagree, I just saw it as another reason to be chained to someone who can get you killed.
“She is pretty amazing and maybe I do.” He fidgeted with his hands and I rolled my eyes.
“Why do I feel nothing from her? She should have some sort of essence.” That worried me, it was like walking into an unknown void.
A. Maybe the reason I can’t feel anything is because she is hiding.
B. If she is hiding then what is she hiding from?
C. Or is it a person she wants to hide from?
D. Why is Cody acting all twitchy?
“You’re making lists in your head again, aren’t you?” I stared at him and he laughed rubbing the back of his neck.
“Callisto does that a lot too.” I raised an eyebrow at him. He shrugged and knocked on the door. A petite woman answered and she glanced at me, her look was calculating and I couldn’t help but feel like I was being sized up.
She had dark hair with reddish highlights, her skin was a warm caramel color. If I didn’t know everyone on the reservation, I would assume she was part of the local tribe.
Her eyes were a deep blue and I blinked as I stared into them. I felt nothing from her though, she may as well not have existed.
“Hello, welcome to Out of the Blue Investigations, how may we help you.” I liked her voice though it was soothing and calmed me.
“I’m here to help you.” Taking off my glasses I watched her reaction and was slightly annoyed to find I did not affect her. That was a blow to my ego. She glanced at Cody and gave him a warm smile.
Scowling I now felt like it was personal, why was she acting like this?
“Oh, but we aren’t hiring.” Cody laughed and he was glancing between the two of us. He was nervous for some reason.
I sat down on the couch and noticed that Callisto had unclenched her thighs. That was interesting, I saw the way she was looking at Cody and I couldn’t help the wave of jealousy that came over me.
“See I told you she was funny. Callisto, Zira, this is our Alpha Dante Alvarez.” Cody seemed to not sense the tension in the room. The smaller woman, Zira, looked drained and ready to fall over.
The other woman was just downright hostile and it put me on edge.
“I’m not responsible for any of the missing people.” Callisto continued to glare at me and I sighed.
“No one said anything about missing people.” Her attitude rubbed me the wrong way. I stood up and stood next to her and towered over her.
“That is not the right attitude to have when dealing with an Alpha.” She pulled herself up and I heard Cody cursing.
“Dante this isn’t the place to pull rank. This is neutral territory.” I turned and growled at him and he watched me.
“He is right, I can kick you out if I want to. But since you are a suspect in the Lucy Ravenwing case, I’m glad you are here because now I can interrogate your pompous ass.” I whipped my head back towards Callisto and let out a low growl.
She didn’t back down and neither did she flinch.
She was either brave or really stupid.
I just couldn’t figure out which one she was and it pissed me off.
