prologue
prologue // layla and drew Drew Arlington walked the highschool hallways liked he owned the place. His feet hit the pavement effortlessly causing almost everyone to look up from their phones. The unwanted attention made him scowl. He didn't understand why everyone was always staring. He was oblivious to his effect on them. Especially his effect on Layla. Layla's eyes widened when he passed by her. She wanted nothing more than for him to look her way. She craved his attention. But he wasn't one to give her any. Layla had come to terms that even though she and Drew had two classes together, Drew didn't care one bit about her. Hell, he didn't even know her name. Layla wanted nothing more than to talk to him, to tell him how she felt. But she knew if she even tried, she'd choke on her words the second he'd even spare a glance at her. He had once asked her for a pencil, and even then she'd made a complete fool of herself. She ended up giving him a pen that didn't have ink. That day she wanted nothing more than to crawl under her desk and die. Drew had frowned once he realized the pen didn't work. He had muttered swear words under his breath and asked the pretty girl that sat beside him for another utensil. Layla internally cringed when those memories flooded her. She hated for embarrassing herself so badly in front of her crush. Even though it was over something small, she over analyzed it because that was her only interaction with him throughout the entire school year. Layla grabbed her books with a slight frown on her face, and made her way towards first period. She now always brought extra pencils just in case if Drew didn't have his own. She wanted to be prepared if he asked her. Clutching her two pencils to her binder that were near her chest, she reluctantly took a seat. Layla hated schoolwork. Especially pre calculus this early in the morning. The class chatted whilst Layla looked around for Drew. It was what she always did, she knew she was a teensy bit obsessed with him but she couldn't help herself. Almost everyone was obsessed with Drew Arlington. Layla's face was lit up at the gorgeous boy that was always permanently etched in her head. His face was situated in a frown, like usual. Drew didn't want to be in class, hell he didn't want to be in school at all. His head was still fuzzy from the joint he had smoked earlier. Everyone's chatter made his frown deepen. He wanted all of them to shut up. As he sat down on his desk, the bell rang, signalling whoever was coming in now was late. Mr. Kirts annoying voice made Drew's head hurt as he talked on about last night's homework. Drew hadn't bothered to do it. He never bothered to do any of the work his teachers assigned him. He had more important things on his mind. Mr. Kirts walked around the classroom until he reached Drew's desk. He knew Drew hadn't done the homework but he took pleasure in embarrassing him. "Mr. Arlington, where is your homework sir?" He smirked. Drew ignored him and put his head down. Mr. Kirts was surprised. Drew usually had a nasty remark to say, but today he flat out ignored him. "Mr. Arlington pick up your head and listen to me when I'm talking to you." He screeched into his ear, but Drew didn't even flinch. In fact it seemed like he was snoring now. Mr. Kirts huffed in frustration. He didn't care for Drew's grades or about him at all. So he moved on to the next persons homework. After a few students turned theirs in, he came across Layla. He smiled warmly at his most studious student. Layla never turned in her homework late and had never even gotten a B in his class. Needless to say, he was very proud such an honors student was attending his class. "Layla," he smiled,"where is your homework?" He purposely said it loud, knowing that Drew was hearing. Layla smiled slightly and handed in her work. "Why thank you Layla, it's nice to know that they're people like you in my class, that actually care about their future." He said quite loud, causing everyone to stare at her. Everyone except Drew who was squirming uncomfortably. Mr. Kirts noticed this and smirked satisfactorily. He liked making Drew feel bad. He knew Layla wasn't someone Drew was very fond of. Layla did her work. Drew didn't. Layla was good. Drew was bad. Teachers loved Layla, they hated Drew. The jealousy was amusing to Mr. Kirts and what was even funnier was the way Layla looked at Drew so adoringly, oblivious to how much he despised her for being a much better person than him. But she wasn't a fool. She knew what Mr. Kirts was hinting at when he had said that sentence. He was referring to Drew, who didn't give a crap about his future. The thought saddened her, she didn't want him to fail, she wanted him to care for his education almost as much as she cared for him. But that wouldn't happen even if pigs learned to fly. Drew rolled his eyes when Layla responded to Mr. Kirts. "Sir I think everyone cares about their education in this class." She said reassuringly. Drew couldn't handle it, he hated the way her voice was. The way it sounded so happy, so convinced that everyone cared for their education, it almost made him want to care. His discomfort was evident in the way he squirmed and frowned. June Summers pinched his arm, making him jolt upwards at the unpleasant feeling. "What's your problem?" He glared at her. She smiled sheepishly. "You were about to fall asleep and you looked disturbed. I thought maybe if I woke you up you wouldn't get in any more trouble than you already are with Mr. Kirts." He continued to glare at her. "Well aren't you just a ray of f*cking sunshine? Don't touch me ever again." And with that Drew fell asleep for real this time, without anymore Layla thoughts to interrupt him. Meanwhile Layla's mind was still clouded with thoughts of him. end of prologue // layla and drew thank you for reading this! please recommend it to others :) if any of you guys have w*****d please check out my book there called 'Fake Angel' . my username is : @myaesthet1c follow me on there & I'll follow back :))) please read this book & if you enjoy it, check out Fake Angel and I guarantee you won't be disappointed in it :) thank you until next time!
