Raindrops

I ran with all the strength I had. I looked over my shoulder, but the wolf was chasing him damn fast. I couldn't just show my true wolf nature now, because I would be giving myself away. In one easy movement, the brown wolf jumped off the ground and was right in front of us. Lilly stood still and stepped backwards. "What shall we do?" Lilly sneered at me. I knew instantly that we were dead either way. It would only take one lift of his paw and my half of his body would be broken. I put my hand on Lilly's shoulder and stepped forward. I left her one step behind me. I looked straight into the yellow eyes that were only four metres away. Now I looked like a little girl in front of such a big werewolf. It was all light brown and had a white spot on its left paw. The wolf took a step, thus reducing the distance between us. My she-wolf growled angrily and gritted her teeth to get away as quickly as possible. She was well aware of the danger I was now in. I knew that with a change of form I could easily escape. I clenched my fists tightly and slowed my breathing. I didn't want to lose my temper under too much strain and expose my angry yellow eyes. The brown wolf took another step towards me and started to brush its big teeth. I didn't move a muscle, nor did I take my eyes off what was going to happen next. I knew very well that he did not belong here. These are human lands and he has no power there. He has no right to kill, no right to steal or do other bad things. This is an agreement between humans and werewolves. Of course, you cannot know what kind of wolf is standing in front of you. Respecting or perhaps going against this human agreement. I knew that this wolf was from the Moon Pack. That means he has made peace with the humans. You can tell from his demeanour otherwise, but on reflection it is his nature. It's the other side that acts more instinctively and forgets its human side. The wolf turned his head to the side and stood still for a moment as if listening to something. Then, in one swift movement, it took another step closer to me. He put his big snout close to my face. Then he bared his white teeth and snarled angrily. I could smell a strong scent that I had seen somewhere before. His mouth stank badly and he really needed to brush his teeth. I could not move a muscle in my body from his behaviour. I just continued to stare at him standing in front of me. Lilly sat there the whole time without saying a word. I could smell it, because it is a specific smell that people sometimes give off. My sense of smell would not be so sensitive to it, I would not understand it. Of course every muscle in her body was tense. Now it was a question of extending our lifeline. Either we die or we get lucky. Like in slow motion, I saw a brown wolf take a paw. It slowly circled towards me, and I closed my eyes, not wanting to see what would happen next. The sound of a big crash reached my ears and I closed my eyes for a moment. I could no longer see the brown wolf in front of me. An angry low growl came from my left side. My eyes instantly met those of a large black wolf. My attacker was lying on the ground with a large toy in his right paw. I know very well there will be a huge scar there. Lorcan was sitting next to the brown wolf lying down. I could see a few white teeth protruding from his large muzzle. He had a slight sneer in his jaws and let out a low growl. He was clearly expressing his dissatisfaction with the actions of the brown wolf. "Lilly let's go." I said, turning to her. Lilly didn't say anything but took my hand. We set off at a fast pace across the meadow towards our village. I turned back over my shoulder to see if we were in any danger. Lorcan and the brown wolf were still in their places without moving a metre. "You could have died." Lilly furrowed her brow. "No time for reproach, move." I shook my head. " That's you - " "Shh." I put my finger to my lips and pointed to my ears. Lilly knew instantly what I meant. I knew she didn't want an answer or it was the same wolf. I couldn't risk her asking. Lorcan would have heard those words in an instant. Even though we were halfway across the meadow, he would still hear. Werewolves have incredibly good hearing. Finally, we had reached the first buildings of the village. Before disappearing out of sight, I looked over my shoulder. Somewhere in the distance I could see a single black wolf sitting in a meadow. "A very enjoyable start to the fourth day." Lilly said wryly. " Just great." I smiled artificially. " Is that the same wolf that attacked you?" Lilly finally asked what she wanted. " Yes, it's the same wolf." I continued walking down the village street. " I think it's the same one that set fire to our shop." Lilly said in a whisper. "Probably." I said briefly. A few minutes later we were at the gate of my house. Lilly quickly rushed into my arms and hugged me tightly. Then I felt her body start to shake and a tear fall on my jumper. "Hey Lilly? What's wrong?" I asked, looking into her eyes. "I could have died, she didn't." Lilly fell back into my arms. " It's okay, we're okay. I'm sure you would have done the same for me." I smiled broadly. " Will we meet again today ?" Lilly asked with teary eyes. "Sure, don't cry silly." I wiped a tear rolling down her cheek. Lilly hugged me tightly again, only this time saying goodbye. Without waiting, I turned towards the gate and opened it. With a light movement, I climbed the steps and opened the front door. My sense of smell was quickly met with the wonderful food my mother had prepared. "It smells delicious." I said as I took off my shoes. Mum was concentrating in the kitchen and humming an old lullaby in the panos. She turned around when she heard my words. She looked at me from head to toe and smiled broadly. "Thank you, darling." Mum said as she turned towards the pot. "Don't you have to go to work?" I asked, looking at the clock. To my surprise, the clock read ten o'clock in the morning. I could hear the wood crackling in the living room fireplace and my dad flipping through the pages of the newspaper. "We've got the day off because of the accident." Mum said simply. "Do you know what happened?" I asked as I put the kettle on. " From the clues, it's believed to be arson." Mum took the blister pack. "Did someone from our village do this?" I wrinkled my forehead as I put the tea and sugar in the pot. "I can't say, dear. Everything will be clear when Lorcan arrives in the village." Mum put the soup bowl on the table. I knew very well that the Alpha Commander handled such things. Well, at least that's what everybody calls him, to me he's just Lorcan. I guarantee that as soon as the fire was over he received a call about a disaster in the village. Because he owns this village which is his land. Lorcan had to handle all the affairs as a commander. Anything to do with fires, murders, or other werewolves. Of course, he didn't have to do that, but it was part of the deal. People were to be called on their own land where there were no werewolves and they were forbidden to show their faces. It's a free area inhabited by humans. Despite the fact that it's called human land it still belongs to Lorcan. He is one of several werewolf commanders across the continent. He gets one human in exchange for peace, but ensures good living conditions for the other humans. When I had finished eating, I left the dishes in the sink and headed for my quarters. I felt I was sleep deprived. Although the adrenaline had not yet left my body, I lay down on the bed and made myself comfortable. My eyes were wide open and looking out of the window. I could see the rain-filled clouds gathering over the village. Towards the evening it should start raining. With these thoughts I closed my eyes. I opened my eyes softly and it was dusk in the room. My sensitive hearing could hear the raindrops hitting the roof. Deciding to wake up a little, I took my clothes out of the wardrobe and went straight to the bath. The final option was my clean state of mind and my eyes wide open. I was wearing a big jumper that reached my knees. Short black shorts that didn't show and long black legs. When I had finished cleaning up, I went down to the first floor to bury something. I found my parents sitting in front of the TV.In the kitchen I turned on the light and put the kettle on. I took some scones from the cupboard, which would be perfect with tea. Five minutes later, I was sitting at the table with steaming tea. Before I could dig out the first digger's doorbell, the sound of the doorbell ringing filled the house. Dad's footsteps quickly hurried from the living room towards the hallway and the front door. The door opened with a loud creak. "Mr. Lorcan, what an unexpected surprise." Dad's confused voice said. "Where is Amelia?" Lorcan's low tone spread through the house. I picked up a cup of tea and decided to check whether my ears were lying to me. I walked into the corridor and saw something I really didn't expect. Lorcan was standing on the other side of the door behind Dad. He was soaked from the rain. His wet black shirt was sticking to his body. The sleeves were rolled up just enough to show his wrists. One hand was resting on the top of the doorframe and the other was resting peacefully by his side. Rain dripped down his short dark hair. "I'm here." I said in a calm tone. Lorcan's black eyes immediately fixed on me. He stepped through the threshold, moving closer to me. Of course he didn't need permission or approval. Lorcan had full permission to enter the house where his future or current slave lives. In this case, it was me. My she-wolf sort of jumped out of her seat and waited anxiously to see how I would react. I wanted to just turn around and walk away, but I stood there and waited to see what would happen next. I wanted to find out why he had reappeared in my house or in my sight. "We need to talk, right now." Lorcan's low growl came from his side. "About what?" I asked as I sipped my tea. " I think you know. "Lorcan's eyes flashed yellow for a moment. "It's about - " The conversation will be private." Lorcan interrupted my words with his cold tone. I knew that I shouldn't argue and show my character at this point. I should just listen to what he had to say. Then, in one swift movement, Lorcan grabbed my wrist and beckoned me to his side. We both walked through the door, which soon closed. We were both standing on the terrace of the house. In one swift movement Lorcan pushed me against the wall. He blocked my knees with both his hands, resting them close to my shoulders. Reluctantly, I turned my head towards him. His dark black eyes looked straight at me. Our faces were separated by barely half a metre. I could feel his scent and warm breath on my skin. My mother-in-law was trying with all her might to escape. I stood with my back against the wall with nowhere to go. My first thought was to hit and run, but there was nowhere to go. This conversation is going to happen whether I want it to or not.
