Grace was furious when she learned that Emma had been taken to Washington. She was angry with Mason for taking Talia with him. Her husband and daughter were with another woman. What would people think of her?
They had a terrible fight in the office.
Mason tried to soothe her. "Things are not like what you think. We went to Washington for business, and Emma came with us because you didn't fulfill your duty."
"Still, I'm Emma's mother. No other woman has the right to take care of my daughter."
"You're unreasonable!"
Talia, who didn't know about the quarreling, pushed open the door and froze in the doorway with the folder in her hand. "Sorry, I..."
"You slut! How dare you seduce my husband and try to take my daughter away from me!" Grace lunged over like a furious lioness and throttled her, "I'm gonna kill you. You shameless w***e!"
In shock, Talia tried to back up, but Grace exerted so much strength that they fell backward together.
The wound on Talia's arm slit open, and the blood gushed out.
Exasperated, Mason came over and dragged Grace away. "Enough!"
He bent down to pick up Talia and ran to the hospital without looking back. Irritated by it, Grace smashed all the things in the office.
Lying on the sickbed, Talia felt a dull pain in the wound.
Mason stroked her face. "I'm sorry for getting you into this. My wife is short-tempered. I hope you won't take it to heart. I'll talk to her and let her realize her mistake."
"It's okay. I think she lost her head just because she loves you and your child too much."
"Ms. Miller, you are so kind." Mason was touched, "You're injured but still justify her. I don't know what to say. If you had appeared earlier, the one to become my wife might not have been Grace but..."
Talia sneered in her heart but spoke with goodwill, "Don't lose your heart. Harmony is the most important thing for a family, and the wife is crucial. I believe Ms. Donovan will do well."
Mason sighed. "I no longer have any expectations from her. I just hope she'll treat Emma as nicely as you do."
Mason lingered in the hospital, and Grace was exasperated when she learned about it.
"Patricia, you should go to the hospital right now and help me teach that woman a lesson. It pisses me off!"
Mason was handling his work outside when Patricia arrived. At that moment, Talia was all alone in the ward.
"Ms. Miller, are you feeling better?" Patricia smiled and sat down on the edge of the bed.
Talia knew that this woman was Grace's sidekick and that she came here not out of concern. Talia would like to see what she was going to do.
"Yeah. The wound is not bleeding anymore, but I need a drip to reduce inflammation."
"I'm sorry to hear that. I heard that you came to New York alone, and your family is not here to take care of you. I'm willing to help."
With that, Patricia got up to pour water for her but added some white powder to the glass.
"Have some water. I'll go buy you some snacks."
Talia saw what the woman had done. Instead of laying it bare, she took the glass but covered her chest. "Ouch, it hurts. Help me call the doctor. The wound seemed to have slit open again."
Patricia hurried away and found the water had been finished when she came back.
She snickered, pretending to comfort Talia. "Don't worry. The doctor will be here in a minute."
Mason and the doctor soon came in together.
Thinking that something was wrong, Mason asked her in a hurry, "What's wrong? Does the wound hurt?"
Patricia tried to answer for her, but Talia shook her head and covered her belly.
"No, it's not the wound. My belly is aching. It started after I drank that glass of water. Doctor, help me."
Mason was confused. "Water? What water?"
Talia pointed to the empty glass. "Patricia poured me a glass of water, and I started feeling bad after drinking it." Then she took out another half-filled glass from under the bed and said, "I didn't finish it but put the rest into this glass. I don't know if she put anything in it."
Patricia turned ashen.
"I didn't do anything!"
Realizing something, Mason asked the doctor to take the glass away for testing. There was soon a result that showed the water had been poisoned.
"What are you up to, eh?" Mason snapped.
Patricia shivered in fear and kept waving her hand. "This has nothing to do with me. Ms. Donovan forced me to do this. She threatened to torture me if I didn't listen to her. The medicine was given to me by her. She often orders me to do this kind of thing."
"Grace..."
A deep breath came out of his mouth, but Mason couldn't stop his anger from getting to his head. Never in his wildest dreams had he thought that his wife was this kind of person. She was impatient with their daughter and suspicious of everything. Now she went as far as threatening their employee. Sure enough, she was a scourge.
Even if he didn't divorce her, he couldn't let her run amok in the company.
Talia was lying on the bed in a good mood.
She had learned from her colleagues that Mason tried to negotiate divorce terms with Grace, who rejected them and made a scene in the office until Mason fired her, took back all her rights in the company, and forbade her entrance to the office.
Talia couldn't wait to share the good news with Chad, and they celebrated it over the phone.
"By the way, you should be careful. Mason's cousin will come to the company. He's a man with sharp senses. You can't show the cloven hoof in front of him."
"I see," Talia said with a smile. "I'll need some time to think about the next steps anyway. Although Grace has been kicked out of the company, she is still living a good life. That's not something I'd like to see."
